Poll: Star Trek delta flyer vs tie squadron

Recommended Posts

So I grew up watching everything sci fi and love Star Wars equally as much as Star Trek. However I do not play Star Trek attack wing lets get that clear. Anyways a thought occurred tho, who would win? Also how many would be a match for the flyer?

Mechanically, or in a crossover?

Mechanically, I can't say. Crossover-wise, Star Wars is generally higher tech than Trek, but the warp drive gives Trek ships a huge degree of tactical mobility (transporters are also a huge deal if properly utilized)

Hmmm I guess crossover wise. Phasers are like sustained lasers technically right? Disruptors and pulse phasers are more like Star Wars. Power wise I'm not sur which is stronger phasers or Star Wars laser bolts but I'm assuming they are similar just one is sustained the others not. Plus the delta flyer is equal in size to possibly 3 tie fighters and has shields and multiple phase banks and torpedo launchers. Honestly I could see it holding it's own against 4-5 ties.

That is awesome hahaha

The folks over at stardestroyer.net have a huge pile of trek vs wars stuff, but from what I have read, the numbers on the ships, from various tech manuals and such, grossly, overwhelmingly favor Star Wars.

For me, I say this. In Trek humans have a few planets and a civilization which is a major power in part of their galaxy. In Wars humans have migrated from their home world so long ago that no one even considers it. They are just from whatever planet they are from. The civilization has the whole Gakexy and travel times are ridiculously lower.

My money is on the Tie, just one.

I like how people actually think that they shoot lasers in Star Wars. While the exact science of a blaster or turbolaser is up for debate, they do not behave like lasers we know. They do not travel at the speed of light and they don't expand at a distance. They fire some sort of heated plasma or matter. The ST Phasers are much more like a laser.

They also have shields too... So the picture doesn't make a bit of sense.

To elaborate what I meant, because the warp drive works in realspace, it gives Trek ships a huge amount of tactical flexibility. A Saavy captain could hit a tie fighter and be gone before reprisal, since the warp drive allows for engagements at FTL speed. Of course, the relative velocities of ships in Star Trek is a lot closer than it would be if the delta flyer picked a fight with some tie fighters, so actually firing might be tricky. Plus, the tie's lack of shield would limit it's ability to engage in a long fight.

stardestroyer.net is critical to these comparisons, so I'm glad someone brought it up.

I'm a huge Trek fan (not nearly as much as SW, but still), but stardestroyer.net annihilates the debate. SW always wins.

Remember the shows, they don't shoot in warp and usually need some time to charge their weapons, then the shoot a few times then talk about the % of their shields! then say the words"subspace", "field" and "plasma". Then they can shoot again.

Sorry, drifted off there. At any rate, I don't know that the Star Trek weapons can severely damage even unshielded Wars ships, or if they can hit a moving target, the show is very inconsistent about phaser accuracy. The only fight I think is a reasonable comparison is a ground battle between red shirts and storm troopers, which ends in a draw. The red shirts ability to get shot and die is thwarted by the storm troopers inability to hit anything.

There'd never be a cross over because Star Trek is set a few hundred years in Earth's future and Star Wars was a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away.  ;)

In all fairness the folks in Trek do find themselves traveling to absurd distances in space and time.
