Sourcebook speculation and hopes

Recommended Posts

Having just read a topic speculating on/wishing for new species to be included, I got to thinking that I haven't seen a lot of speculation on other sourcebooks on this board. Ultimately, this kind of discussion doesn't often produce anything more than fun discussion, that's a worthy enough end. And who knows? Maybe the creators take community discussions into consideration when it comes to ideas and interest.

Now, for example, some say that a Tatooine sourcebook is inevitable. Personally, I'm more eager to see a Coruscant/Imperial Center sourcebook. It's an intricately multi-layered setting, literally, with both Imperial and underworld influences. Just think of how excited people were for the cancelled 1313 game.

And even more whimsical, I think it would be pretty interesting if the Age of Rebellion books went with something other than regions. Maybe battle sourcebooks with scenarios in which you can have your parties take part in Battles of Hoth or Endor. Or comprehensive guides to space and plantetary warfare or intelligence operations? Greater in-depth ship guides? Or a sourcebook specifically on creating Imperial PCs. How cool would that be?

I like the Region books for EotE. Personally, I'd like to see faction books for the AoR line. An Imperial book and a Rebellion book. A book combining famous battle locales; Yavin, Hoth, moons of Endor. This could be combined with information on military targets that could be used or inserted into adventures. Maybe a book on military targets andd rebel bases. Or some combination of the above.

Man you can tell the grey-beards...

I too miss the old Galaxy Guides :P

I feel in Star Wars there's need to have lots and lots of options when it comes to playing an alien PC. So I'd like a huge alien book, something similar to WOTC's Ultimate Alien Anthology.

I would say that FFG are marching towards an enormous catalogue of Playable species, it seems there is 8 different options alone in the LoNH book.

We are also only around 1/4 of the possible splat books released!

Even after all these years, I still get a lot of use out of GG9: Fragments from the Rim.  So much great setting-building stuff in there.  That and the Special Ops slang terms were a hoot.

I wonder, will Mandalore really get its own sourcebook, or will Mandalorian humans just be something in the Bounty Hunter book? Mandalorians are certainly at least as idiosyncratic as Corellians and feature prominently in a lot of recent lore. But the region doesn't have the same significance as the Corellian Sector or Hutt Space, I don't think. And I have trouble imagining the Bounty Hunter sourcebook not having Boba Fett on almost every page.

I’m happy to have that as inspiration, and then to work with people like SavageBob to convert those into “real” playable species, per his “The Great Movie Alien Compendium” thread.

IMO, he is doing as well or better than FFG has ever done.

Fragments from the Rim is my favourite of all the WEG Galaxy Guides. I have pretty much everything WEG made for its Star Wars line, and there were some real gems in there. The Elrood sector sourcebook (GG3?) was also excellent. There was also some very useful material in the SpecForce handbook, GG: Criminal Organizations and GG: Bounty Hunters.

Personally I'd love to see an equipment book with lots of gear, ranging from the mundane but useful to the exotic and hard-to-find. And while I think that region books like Suns of Fortune and Lords of Nal Hutta are nice, I'd be just as interested in seeing books that cover aspects of galactic civilization without restricting themselves to a specific area.

It seems FFG are trying to make sure all the released material is useful to any group of players (makes business sense :P)

Really keen* for a Techie's book.

*by keen, I mean who do I have to kill?

What are your guesses for the specs? I play a droid slicer when not GMing so hoping to see a droid mechanic.

I've also thought that the rigger from Aces would be good if they want to double up.

there is an opportunity for a base builder/modifier type as well, prob doesn't fit EotE theme though.

Someone who develops drugs, toxins etc is an opportunity(mad scientist working for the hutts?)

Final thought is for a traps specialist, even the demolitions expert?

If Fantasy Flight maintained the current publication formula, after Fly Casual we ought to expect another adventure module, a career sourcebook, a location/region sourcebook, and then one more career sourcebook. After that, who knows what they could have in mind for Edge of the Empire? They still have a lot of ground to make up with the other two games.

And count me among those who would love a faction book devoted completely to the Empire for Age of Rebellion. Not necessarily so that my group could play as Imperials, but just for more structural information and possible background. Plus, I want detailed layouts and schematics for Star Destroyers and Golan Defense Platforms. Also some region sourcebooks focusing on Bothan Space and major shipyard worlds like Kuat for the Imperials and Mon Calamari for the Rebellion (after it's liberated).

I'm less interested in Force and Destiny right now, although I'm hoping to work a treasure hunt for an ancient Krath Warship in a future part of my EotE campaign. For that reason, I wouldn't mind a F&D supplement dealing with Ancient Jedi, Sith, and Krath ideas from the Tales of the Jedi era, circa 5000 BBY.

Really hard to speculate.

I play a human Slicer/Ace when I'm not GM'ing as well :P

Demolitionist, Scientist, Saboteur, Infiltrator and to some extent the Gageteer occupy a lot of the 'easy' ideas for new Technician careers that where sort of my line of thinking- whatever happens in the magic space wizard book (F&D) isn't something I'm overly familiar with.

Cybertech/Droidtech might be something to fit, basically an 'Augmeticist' of sorts bringing in new types and inventions there.

Chemical Engineer, also a good idea, (if a little limited) and might wander into the Demo-Mans area of blowing stuff up, but a lot of fun when you're bored with a stil in the cargo hold of your frieghter on long trips.

Ships Engineer, basically a chief engineer with some leadership skills for larger crews and some substantial bonuses to working on his vehicle.

So what's everybody thinking willbe the total number of books for each line?

My guess is 14-15 plus the beginner box

CRB, GM screen, 6 career books, 3 sector type books, 2-3 adventure supplements?

There is potential for a universal spec book as well

Multiply that by three for the entire Star Wars line and you have a pretty impressive chunk of gaming material. Here's hoping FFG keeps the license long enough to make it happen!

Fragments from the Rim was just 100% pure awesome. Just a perfect collection of odds and ends; from Imperial Special forces, to mixed drinks of the galaxy. I'm amazed that WotC never just rewrote that bad boy.

I do hope that FFG doesn't burn through the races fast enough to get to Kushiban. If they do I'll never hear the end of it from one of my players....

The Tattooine Sunrise, or was it Sunburn, or both? You could order them at Kina Margath's, if I remember correctly. And if you ordered a drink that her bartenders had never heard of, it was free. I always wondered what stopped people from making up names and ingredients for drinks on the spot: "ummm, it's got your best Corellian Whiskey... and, uh, ice cubes from Dathomir. It's called, ummmm... Rancor's Revenge. Yeah."

I'm just wondering which book the Verpine will be in - the EotE Technician book or the AoR Engineer book.

I love the Verpine and would love to see that race and their asteroids make an appearance in Fantasy Flight. While we're reminiscing, the WEG version of the Verpine was ridiculously technically skiled. I played a Jedi apprentice one in a ancient Republic campaign we made up, sometime after the Exar Kun debacle, but thousands of years before the Clone Wars

Several subspecies of Nikto are not really the same as several different species, at least not if they're done like the Aqualish (with only minor differences among them).

I'd love to see a Kashyyyk Region sourcebook. It would probably focus mostly on the Wookiees, their culture, and their homeworld, with lots of forest-hopping adventure seeds and the like. Plus, The Essential Atlas introduces a guild of Wookiee astrogators who specialize in blazing newer, faster hyperlanes—that they then keep as state secrets. This would be a fun way to make astrogation-based adventures more viable.

There would also be a large focus on the Trandoshans, their religion, their rivalry with the Wooks, etc., since they share the same star system. We could delve deep into the history of relations between the two species, how things have evolved over time, and meet the rulers of the two planets in the Rebellion era. There's an episode of The Clone Wars where Ahsoka and Chewbacca are both being hunted by Trandos on a moon in the region (Wasska, I think), which would be another location to cover and a cool place to drop a group of PCs.

As icing on the cake, we could throw in the Saurins of Durkteel. They're a subspecies of Trandoshans seen in A New Hope, and we know next to nothing about them and how they differ from the mainline Trandos. Were they conscientious objectors when the Trandoshans turned to slaving? Were they a slave subspecies themselves, forced to grow crops for the rulers on the homeworld, Trandosha (and, thus, maybe now allies of the Wookiees)? Were they the rulers at one point, living in imperial splendor on the throneworld Durkteel while the more thuggish mainline Trandoshans did their dirty work and enslaved other species to keep the economy going? I've always thought there were gobs of story potential in these questions.

Finally, the Bimms of Bimmisaari are also in this region, so that's another two species (the near-Human Bimms seen in the Cantina and the furry ones that had to be retconned in thanks to Dark Horse ignoring the previous EU). Bimmisaari would be another location for adventures. I'm sure there are other worlds in the area, as well as others to be created specifically for the supplement.

Let's do it, FFG!
