Mr. Sorastro:

After buying SW:IA to play with my dad and brother, I stumbled across your videos on painting and was immediately intrigued. Although I'm a lifelong nerd, I've never painted a miniature in my life. But, I decided that now would be as good a time as any to have a go. I would like you to know that my dad and I are now nearly entirely consumed by the dark obsession that is miniatures painting. We've purchased and utilized an embarrassing amount of painting supplies, gadgets, and other tools in an alarmingly short amount of time in order to complete our figures. Your videos provided the initial nudge to get us started, and a subsequent springboard that's served to inspire us to use new techniques in painting the figures, as well as going over a few we'd already done.

In sum, I would like you to know that I hold you solely responsible for mine and my father's newest addiction, that it has caused two grown men to behave like delighted boys, and that it's been absolutely brilliant. We are incredibly grateful for what you do and hope some day to produce figures that look a bit more like yours. Though, you've already helped us produce figures that are considerably less shameful than our first batch of stormtroopers.

All the best in your endeavours, and your Patreon campaign. Thank you, Again.

Thank you so much for posting such a lovely message!  "Grown men behaving like delighted boys" also sums my feelings up when I engage with table-top/miniature gaming and I'm so grateful that it's a part of myself that hasn't diminished with age.  What a fantastic way to spend time with your father too!  My own father was never into this kind of thing but it's a hobby I already treasure sharing with my little ones (and I even got Mrs. Sorastro to play a game of Robinson Crusoe: Adventures on a Cursed Island with me the other day!) :)

I'm tempted to do the clear bases in your zombie videos though... Would your reinforcement technique work on that or be too obvious?

Hmm I haven't tried it actually.. I'm not sure if the Litko bases are too brittle to drill in to without splitting but I'd be happy to give it a go (I do love the look of them). I'll get back to you once I've tried it :)

I have drilled into Litko bases successfully. I've put all four Trandoshans and Jyn on their 25 mm bases with the same paper clip support as shown in the video. I suppose there is a risk of breaking them, but I have had no issues yet. Just be sure to support them well while drilling, but be careful not to put a hole in your own finger. I like to watch the depth of the bit through the side while I'm drilling. They are a harder material than the SWIA minis, so the drilling will be slower.

I also bought two of their 50 mm bases for the Nexu and have mounted them. I will put the wookies on a Litko base when I finish painting them.

I also grabbed some orange bases to try on elite units because I didn't know how to tackle marking them with a clear base.

Awesome!  Thanks for sharing your findings; I haven't gotten round to trying it out yet but it's good news to hear that the Litko bases can take a little drilling!

Episode 13 is OUT!! :D (to patrons that is...  ;) )

Yes, it also requires Warplock Bronze which I'm pretty sure wasn't mentioned before. :P

Doh! Sorry mate; That'll teach me to post paint lists from memory whilst in the bathroom :/

In fact, I believe I made the mistake.  I think you may have used it on those fancy bases which I am not using and as such never bought the paint.

Excellent job done with this video.  I can't wait to try my hands at this one.  Also kudos for having the creativity to use the edge paint the way you did, I assumed it would be for edge highlights!

Ooh, perfect timing. I just finished painting the Nexus. The elite one went too dark because the dry paint had gone too dry and I had to revive it with water. And then it pooled a little on the crevices and it didn't look good. So I did some extra wash with Seraphim Seepia and drybrushed and washed again. Then I thought that I'll just live with it. In the end it didn't turn out as badly as I feared.

Oh and thank you again for the amazing videos, Sorastro. I don't think I could have done much anything to the Nexus without the tutorial. I like how every video has some new tips and techniques. And sometimes even the most common things come as a bit of a revelation to me. For example, mixing lighter color to darker one to lighten the tone for highlights. My instinct would be to use white. But it's not always the ideal case. Like with the Nexu's spines. It's one point I have to try and remember when painting. :)

Thanks so much for the upload today! Diala turned out fantastic.

Sorastro, the videos keep getting better and better, and my skills as well thanks to you. Never touched a paintbrush before the first stormtrooper and each figure since then has looked better and better. My wookies just turned out amazing! While I love painting these IA minis with you, I was wondering if you have any word on that survey you took about another line to paint around IA episodes? I'd love to diversify a bit, esp now that I have so many paints!

An alternative to the Edge paint "Baharroth Blue" is "Skink Blue" from their Dry range, but you have to re-liquefy it yourself (see video below, 8:50). It's the exact same pigment, only drier.PSA: Edge are the same as Dry.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ntGXRTpgPY0

Well, this is good to know. I kinda hate citadels dry line. They turn into rubber balls on me. I may just buy a bunch of the edge

So it isn't just one of my dry paints that has rubberised!

From the dry paints I have, only the Necron Compound seems to be the right composition. Longbeard Grey, Ryza Rust and Tyrant Skull are all so rubberized they're hard to use as I have to mix in a little water and the dry paint doesn't mix in as nicely as base and layer paints.

So I'm new on this forum... I can show you pictures of the SWIA miniatures I've put on Litko bases with paper clip supports, but I don't know how to post pictures to this forum...

Hi TheRedSon!

I don't know how other users do it but I upload my pics to Flickr then hit the "share" button for the image to generate the code needed that I then paste into my forum post. (I also like to delete all of the code either end of the [img... brackets to get rid of all the links to the Flickr site and keep the presentation clean.) Also, when you generate the code, Flickr lets you select the size you want to present the image which I find quite helpful.

Also, don't forget you can preview your post before posting it to check that it's all worked :)

Hope this helps!

Oh Sorastro good buddy ol'chum.  What's the chances you'd make a special video just for me on how to paint scenery?

I must own these.

I now own these (awaiting delivery).

Having received Wave 2 yesterday I'm a;ready excited for how you're going to do Boba!

He's such an awesome figure isn't he? I'm going to start some color tests tonight :)  Sadly my summer break is over and I'm back to work tomorrow so Ep.14 might be a while :/

They do look sweet!  I'm confident you could knock out a decent paint job on those with lots of grey and drybrushing.  The scenery in the pic looks like it's been air brushed which gives it that lovely smooth shading (see bulldoguk's thread as his work is lovely!).

That is a great question. I just ordered all 3 sets of things, paid for them ($55 is £35) and completed my order without finding out what shipping is. My receipt claims I will pick shipping options during the checkout process. I think their mobile store could use improvements.

On a second note... I agree, painting tips on these would be appreciated even without tutorial videos

I hope that works... It was not easy to figure out all on mobile...

From this angle (which is way too close... I was very pleased with her prior to seeing this) you can see where the pegs are inside the base, but only a little. It also looks like there is more glue on the clear surface still than I thought. Either way, the base is obviously still whole from the drilling process. You can't tell here, but I drilled all the way through the base.

TheRedDaughter trying her hand at Jyn. She did a fair job, I even kept Jyn's lips orange after she smeared a little on the face. It gave the lips nice contrast, and cleaning the chin up around them was easy enough.

She was so excited the day Jyn's video went up. She'll be very excited to see Diala soon also.

This is a pretty lousy picture really, but somehow the lighting made that LS really pop... I wish I could do that on purpose in better focus...

Vader has not made it onto his Litko base yet.

I will go dig up the Nexu so you can see what the 50 mm bases look like...
