The thought just entered my mind.  I can't wait to see your Boba Fett video!

Thanks mate! I can't wait to paint Boba Fett either; I'm gonna have to come with something special for the music too - he's surely going to need a kick-a** theme :)

Does anyone know when he's coming out?

They're on the boat so I'd guess late this month or early next. Not sure what the delay is to get it across the pond though

So, episode 11 is going well then?

It's going ok thanks! I'll be finishing filming and beginning editing this week.

Just got my bases from secret weapon so I'll be painting that, and then finishing Jyn up. I went with the "scrap yard" base for Jyn (Mak will get one too), then I figured I would use the "blasted wetlands" for Fenn and Garkhaan, and "ruined temple" for Diala and Gideon.

Oh, and I picked up the "Tree Stumps" pack too, so I can spruce up my AT-ST and Nexu bases...

Excited to hear about your excellent progress on Ep.11 Sorastro!!

I have a feeling they'll make it for Gencon.  I fully expect a big box expansion to get announced then as well with a whole new full fledged campaign, more heroes, more equipment, more enemies and more tiles.  My guess would be on some snowy maps loosely tied into Hoth.

Edit:

Also I like to think this is representative of how awesome Boba is.

I started compiling what colours are needed. I came up to and the Officer (didn't check the whole video just the end)

It seems the Officer doubles the amount of colours so I was wondering, any chance of cutting it down a little?

You can simplify it a bit by painting the figure gray. You could consider leaving out maybe the following:

Caledor Sky - This is needed for the blue marks in the badge. You can use another shade of blue here or mix the blue. Or use some other color.

Waywatcher Green - This is a green glaze that Sorastro mixes with Guiliman's Blue to make a cyan glaze. You could probably just use Guiliman's Blue or leave the wash out entirely.

Guiliman's Blue - Blue glaze. You can try what this looks like or leave it out

Lahmian Medium - This is a colorless glaze that is used to dillute glazes and shades. You can use water instead but the result may not be as good. Lahmian medium is also needed for quite a few other figures so I recommend buying it. It makes it possible to build up layers of glaze and use different amount of shading / glaze for different parts of the figure.

Thunderhawk Blue - Layer paint that is lighter than Dark Reaper. You can mix white into Dark Reaper to lighten it if you're comfortable mixing paints

You could even try mixing white with Mechanicus Standar Gray to make tones that are close to Administration Gray and Celestra Gray but at least Celestra Gray is used in other figures too so it might be worth the buy.

Is there someone here who like me have never painted (more or less) that tried to follow these awesome guides?
Results?
I REALLY wanna paint my IA but I'm so worried it will turn out super bad.

My only experience was about 15 years ago, and it ended badly. I am super happy with how mine have turned out this time. Give it a shot.

There are plenty of other great examples of folks who have followed Sorastro's videos for painting their first mini's (and done much better than I), but I'll share my own.  I started painting these three about a week ago, and here's the progress after about a few painting sessions:

20150704_101329.jpg

The one on the left has 3 coats of highlight applied, the middle just 1, and the right is ink only.

I made a ridiculous number of mistakes painting these.  I didn't apply enough primer.  I didn't clean the mould lines off of the figures well enough. I thought it would be smart to hot glue the figures to a piece of cardboard for priming (it wasn't).  The ink I got from the Army Painter basic set was brown instead of black.  The white paint in the Army Painter basic set had basically dried out (it was a white paste instead of a fluid), so I had to learn the hard way what a good paint consistency is.  I rolled one of the figures on the table a bit too much while trying to stay steady and removed some of the paint from the gun.  Some of the black pieces are white.

And you know what?  They look GREAT on the table.  Sure, they aren't as awesome when you look at them closely and scrutinize them, but there's a ton of character and texture there that brings a lot to the cardboard.

I'll add a final version picture when I get home, but I finished them with varnish last night and applied Ardcoat this morning.  I plan on keeping these three in their "finished for a newbie" form as a great place to look back on.

If you look through this thread you'll see my results having never lifted a brush before.

Edit:

Most of these are located on page 5 where I rushed in to catch up with the videos.  There are others later on in the thread where I believe I started to get a bit better at it, even if still a complete neophyte.

Edit 2:

Even more figure packs announced for Sorastro to make even more tutorial videos for!

So how far off is the next video?  Will I be safe to go to Games Workshop this weekend with returning to find I have more paints required?

Edit:

In the mean time I thought I'd try an experiment on my own.  I slapped a base coat and a wash on a few of the stone golems from Battlelore.  Chosing colours is hard and I have no idea which ones to use for drybrushing highlights and for adding in the details.  However, I'd have never thought to dare try this without Sorastro's lessons.

Hi Muz!  I've ALMOST finished filming Episode 11; just had the busiest week of the year at work (had to put on our school summer concert last night) which has slowed my down a little.  So you don't need to worry about buying new paints just yet!  Another week or so will be needed for narration/editing/music.  Good luck with those golems!  (I've been wanting to paint my set for ages but haven't had the time.)

Oh how you love to keep us in suspense sir!! You tell Muz its ok to go to the GW store, not because you've leaked the paint list to us, but because you simply aren't telling yet. Absolutely wicked! I love it!!

(keep up the excellent work, you've made this whole project that much better with how you handle things :) )

I've finally succumbed and went forward painting models Sorastro hasn't gotten to yet. The video's are great quality but with a month in between it really is too limiting to keep following along and I want. to play. the game (painted). I learnt a few very handy tricks through these video's though, for which I am grateful :)

Thanks Murm! I'm happy to hear you've picked up a few tips from the videos. I couldn't agree with you more about wanting to play with a fully-painted set (something I'd have done months ago if I wasn't making these videos!).

I've almost forgotten what it must be like to be able to just sit down and paint for oneself: relatively quick, easy, and stress-free compared to what it's like when filming. Yet as rewarding a hobby painting is, it's no-where near as rewarding as the feeling I get why I hit that upload button, then the feedback from viewers (such as your good self!) tells me how helpful/enjoyable the video has been. For that I am grateful :)

Happy painting!

Good to know we aren't too far off the next video.  Hopefully you'll pick up more Patreon members with every video you release, which in turn will mean more videos for us!  As we all know there are going to be a lot of expansions for this game.

Muz those golems look amazing! I love the glowey blue eye :)

Yep I finished filming episode 11 today so will strive to get the narration, editing and music done ASAP. I've now received my new camera body (Nikon D750), lenses and a slider which should mean a significant reduction in filming time, coupled with improved video quality and better close-ups. I'll do a speed test with Episode 12 to see how fast I can get it in the can!

Glad to hear you've got a new camera sorted out.  Hopefully you'll get that new software package too!

I'd feel more at ease knowing that your dedicated work for the community here isn't harder than it ought to be.

This kinda feels like a hashtag humble brag, but here are my first painted Stormtroopers facing off against the last unpainted troopers.  This was my first time painting minis, but they look and feel so much better on the table.  Up close, there are serious problems, and I made dozens of mistakes while painting them (see previous post), but they're still an incredible improvement.  The other unexpected part was how much fun I had painting them.

Superb work on those troopers Teirdome! Painting white isn't easy, and how much more thematic are they compared to the grey lumps of plastic on the left?!

The difference is incredible!

I can't thank you enough for giving me the tools to try painting, Sorastro.  Well, I tried through patreon, but sincerely, thank you!

So, life got super busy the last month or so but I finally got to finish up my Tranoshans. I think these may be my favorite so far. I tried to come up with my own forest camo for one of the hunters, and tweaked one of the suggested camos as well. I also tried a couple of back pack changes. Hopefully they look like leather and canvas to you. I really like how it all turned out.

I also painted Vader.

I can't believe how well this is all going. I'd tried painting miniatures once before this (more people need to join the patreon so Sorastro can paint full time and I can talk him into x-wing repaints...) and while semi okay with the results I didn't think this kind of result was possible. Well, I suppose it wasn't without Sorastro.

Thanks again mate. This has been the most rewarding hobby I've picked up in years
