Carpatheon 91 Posted January 27, 2015 Im running the following build on Hobbie. Hobbie Klivian R3-A2 Flechette Torps My question is this. Can Hobbie shoot a target with the flechette, activate R3-A2 to inflict a stress and recieve a stress, then use his ability to clear that stress with the Target lock spent to fire the torp? Buhallin 4,520 Posted January 27, 2015 Yes, he can. R3-A2 activates during Step 1, after selecting a target. You select the secondary weapon, and spend the lock for it, in Step 2. At that point you could clear the stress gained in Step 1. 1 VanorDM reacted to this
InterceptorMad 1,920 Posted January 27, 2015 You can even use the target lock to re-roll no dice and still clear the stress.
Parravon 5,216 Posted January 27, 2015 You can even use the target lock to re-roll no dice and still clear the stress. Not if you used it to fire the Flechettes.
Carpatheon 91 Posted January 27, 2015 Ok cool thanks. I thought thats how it worked, gives you a chance to double stress a single target one turn, plus im gonna add Munitions Failsafe and hope i miss. Shooting at long range cloaked phantoms or some such.
Cptnhalfbeard 680 Posted January 27, 2015 plus im gonna add Munitions Failsafe and hope i miss. Don't do this. It may sound neat on paper, but this is a game about doing damage, and putting points into something you intend to miss with is a bad idea. Hobbie+R3A2+Flech Torps+MF = 30 points. Do you really want almost a third of your list to do 0 damage? 2 Parravon and DR4CO reacted to this

StevenO 2,996 Posted January 28, 2015 If you are double stressing a cloaked Phantom you kind of are dealing damage to it. It may not be the physical damage you want but cutting it's ability to act can cut many of the abilities it needs to stay alive. Decloaking may not be an action so it can regain the ability to fire but doing so will leave it more vulnerable when it can't recloak and also gets 2 Green dice instead of 4. Do you really want almost a third of your list to do 0 damage? I was running that Hobbie build (without MF) for awhile at the start of regionals last year (before the dark times, before the emp... I mean Phantom). And I have to say that I really wish I had MF, as in all 9 games played over two regionals with that setup, I did a total of 1 damage via Flechettes. While it's nice to setup the double stress, not doing any damage isn't that nice. That said, MF would be a nice addition, that way you can always threaten a double stress in the future, or decide to not bother with it and just attack and have the TL to modify it.
