Subroutine Questions

I had a couple of questions concerning subroutines of Archer and Wotan.

Archer has one "Trash 1 program"

Wotan has one "End the run unless Runner trashes 1 installed program"

 

1)If the Runner suffers these effects, who decides what to trash? The Corp or the Runner?

 

2) Since Wotan's specifies "installed program", could Archer's routine perhaps allow the Runner to discard a program from their grip? 

If that's the case, then the wordage "Runner trashes" is redundant, right?

1) All things being equal, the controller of the card chooses. Wotan has language to create an exception to that rule.

 

2) No. Because it's the corporation's choice, they would have to choose from the available options on the table. If Wotan *didn't* specify "installed," then theoretically the runner could trash a program from their grip, because it's their choice and they know what they're holding.

 

So, that makes it not redundant in Wotan's case and it *would* be redundant in Archer's case, if it were printed there. But it's not, so, it isn't.
