Dagonet 7,246 Posted January 26, 2015 Sooo, with GoG releasing the games again and having just been pointed to the modders at http://www.xwaupgrade.com/ AND having just bought a cheap joystick just for this, a topic for all people getting back into the cockpit in the greatest dogfighting games on the PC. So, first off, I'm really having a hard time remembering all the keyboard commands and they are crucial. It doesn't help that the last time I played the game I had a joystick with way more buttons all set to do exactly what I needed, leaving my other hand free to instruct wingmen. So I might have to buy a better one soon And, having just joined the rebellion and stuck in the Y-Wing for the first time, I might have to look at the difficulty setting because holy cow, those transports pack a wallop The game still is magical though. TasteTheRainbow 8,726 Posted January 26, 2015 7-8 buttons is enough, especially for dogfighting. It's amazing how well the instincts come back. Conandoodle 1,817 Posted January 29, 2015 I get frustrated with the Azameen missions. I feel that the missions would be so much easier in an X-wing. I constantly l get stuck on the Azameen ones and put the game down. Pick it up later, finish the mission and then LOVE the fighter missions. Being in the cockpit of an X-Wing is awesome.Also, ALWAYS play it through your TV!Dagonet, it takes a bit of practice but the skills come back.Is there a graphics upgrade for the original X-Wing or Tie Fighter game? Dagonet 7,246 Posted January 29, 2015 I don't always have the option of hooking up the pc to the tv though, I wouldn't want a PC in the living room There's a graphics update to original Alliance graphics at least, but I don't think anything to the level of the community made mods. And the Azzameen missions, until the one right before you join the rebellion are a bit bluh, inspect this, capture that. Conandoodle 1,817 Posted February 1, 2015 The only advice I have .. and it might just be common knowledge:1. When you're in a YT switch your turrets to defensive mode until you're about to blaze a TIE in front of you. 2. Keep shields at 1/2 recharge rate (whatever the setting is that keeps them from depleting but not giving any extra charge). You're better to charge your lasers and transfer the power to your shields. Aaaaannnnddd still annoyed with the Z-95 Ion Pulse missile challenge, but I'm in Bandit squad so that is fun. I also now know why I thought the defender minis looked wrong.
