Midi-chlorians

Recommended Posts

Midi-chlorians are coming up a lot in discussions about episode VII lately and this got me thinking... The fact that someone can discover force powers as an adult seems to point to them being contagious, but how is the virus transmitted?

  • Is it airborne?
  • Are midi-chlorians spread by contact?
  • If I am bitten by a Jedi, do I become a Jedi?
  • Is it transmitted sexually?
  • If I drink the blood of a Sith will I become one?

If anyone knows where I can find force users "willing" to be experimented  upon, please let me know.

Is it airborne?

We don't know*

If I am bitten by a Jedi, do I become a Jedi?

All bite victims have show immediat signs of infection. death occurs no later than- oh wait that's zombies!

God i wish we could have a Jedi apocalypse RPG!

Is it transmitted sexually?

Wait, Did Leia contract Midi-chlorians from kissing Luke? Eeew! You are a sick man George Lucas! :)

If I drink the blood of a Sith will I become one?

Yes. Showing your devotion to the dark side by drinking blood, will impress the Sith so much that they will invite you to join them.

* Can you guess from wich zombie movie that comes from? ;)

Yeah they are the biggest WTF moment in that film, if it's a parasite anyone can become infested by the little buggers.

And if anyone can have them there's no reason for Jedi to be rare or Sith, you could raise an army and inject them.

Having it just be certain people born attuned to the force worked, making it an organism makes it less special and more confusing.

The force is still very much supernatural.  The only you could get midis in the list you made above is with sith magic.  In fact its through sith teaching and other darksiders that the midi count means jack because the can go beyond what some should be able to do with a set midi count.  It doesnt set the users power level.  The force has no limits.

What you do see harvested from victoms are theirs souls.  Sith and other dark siders can become more powerful and or heal themselves by taking other peoples souls

I would have prefered if they made Midichlorians a side effect of using the force. Like how a doctor can tell you have an infection because your white blood cell count is high.

The current version would make it the most potent drug in the universe. Tap some tatooine slave for some midi's, mind control those contract talks...or choke them if they don't agree.

Midichlorians are a poorly veiled analogue to mitochondria. The whole "parasite" thing draws form the fact that mitochondria have DNA that is dissimilar from that of the the organisms who's cells they power. This leads to the theory that mitochondria were a separate organism that co-evolved with the eukaryotes that now harbor them. Mitochondria produce energy for cells, midichlorians produce some different kind of energy that allows beings to manipulate the force.

I absolutely hate, HATE, HATE!, that they found the need to quantify the Force with this midichlorian rubbish. Why couldn't they leave as the mystical energy it was?

Star Wars is supposed to be tales of myth and magic, good and evil. Not scientifically measurable magic! The force went from being an all powerful mystical energy to a blood infection. Should've just given young Anakin a couple of penicillin shots to clear it up and the whole Darth Vader issue would never have come up at all.

Midichlorians should be debunked in the SW-verse as medical hokum, much as "bad humours of the blood" have been in real-life, or how cigarettes were pushed by doctors as beneficial in the 40s and 50s, or when cocaine was available over-the-counter.

High midichlorian count in force-users is just a coincidence.

Oh god.

What if you really can get more midichlorians (more force power) by kissing jedi?

Quigon: "Obi-wan! This sith guy is to strong! I need more power! You'll have to kiss me!"

Obi: "What?!"

Quigon: "shut up and kiss me!"

Obi:" Dude I'm already calling you "master" I'm not gonna kiss you!"

Quigon: Fine, then go get that Anakin boy!"

Obi: "Dude no!"

If i have just ruined the Phantom Menace for you.. I'm sorry.

If i have just given you ideas for writing Obi/quigon slashfic: You are welcome! :D

Yes once something makes me start thinking of yaoi fanfics it's time to get back on topic!

So err;.. back on topic;.. ehrm ;.anything... ah got it!

Do we  find out how high Yoda's M- count is? (It's less than Ani's but do we have a number?)

Phew, trainwreck avoided... for now.
