Phantom for Intiative?

Why do we, I'm one of the we also, try to spend less points to gain Intiative? Because for example if I have VI Whisper vs other 9's with Intiative I have to move first. I understand that I also can shoot first but I prefer to move second so I can get into a better position. Eg not be fired at or to get a shot. Maybe I am wrong but I think I dont want Intiative anymore

PS Can I offer my opponent Intiative without a roll?

If you move first you cloak before he shoots, that's 2 extra dice right there, worth moving in the blind.

 

If you win the initiative bid you get to choose who gets initiative, you don't get it automatically as it used to work.

Um if your cloaked you cant shoot though? And if you move your phantom second then you could get out of arc. Especially with Advanced sensors and Navigator

I mean with ACD, you shoot- you cloak. Then your opponent shoots, and your phantom is already cloaked, even if he has same PS.

 

You *could* get out of arc, but not necessarily, that is very circumstantial. As a player with initiative, you can sometimes do a "safe" decloak + move that covers most of the other players options, at least when you're at a medium-large distance.

If you spend less points or win the roll off, coin toss, or roshambo then you get to decide who has initiative. Whether you want initiative or not depends on the make up of your opponent's list.

Did he show up with a PS 9 turret that isn't Dash in an HLC Outrider? You want initiative.

Does he have VI Dash in an HLC Outrider? You want him to have initiative so you can make sure that you snuggle up at range one.

Does he have Soontir or Whisper? You want him to take initiative so that you can arc dodge his arc dodging.
