The NEW double decimator.

Recommended Posts

Some background first, this is my original double decimator list:

VT-49 DECIMATOR: Patrol Leader (40)

· Darth Vader (3)

VT-49 DECIMATOR: · Rear Admiral Chiraneau (46)

Expose (4)

· Experimental Interface (3)

· Ysanne Isard (4)

It had reasonable success and is a lot of fun to fly. However, earlier this evening I didn't just lose, I was utterly destroyed by criticals: proton bomb for an injured pilot (no pilot ability or EPT) while Chiraneau was still at full health. The game ended up with Chiraneau going 1v1 against Kenkirk after having collected a Damaged cockpit (0 pilot skill). The final nails in the coffin were two turns in a row drawing blinded pilot (no attack).

I know that this is a crazy set of crits. What I want to know is if it calls for re-thinking my squad.

One idea:

VT-49 DECIMATOR: · Rear Admiral Chiraneau (46)

Determination (1)

· Ysanne Isard (4)

· Rebel Captive (3)

VT-49 DECIMATOR: · Captain Oicunn (42)

Determination (1)

· Mara Jade (3)

Another:

VT-49 DECIMATOR: Patrol Leader (40)

· Darth Vader (3)

VT-49 DECIMATOR: · Rear Admiral Chiraneau (46)

Determination (1)

· Ysanne Isard (4)

· Rebel Captive (3)

· Mara Jade (3)

Thoughts? Ideas? Critique?

drop mara jade, drop rebel captive. Take engine upgrade and the title card on rear admiral. I like the vader but the stress is unnecessary for you because you have a turret and dont need to worry about trying to keep the ship in your firing arc.

I pair the decivader with:

Rear adm chichi, push the limit, Isard, and engine upgrade.

Once your shields are gone, you move, target lock something, then after everyone is set and the cobat phase starts you evade with izzy, and push to boost out of arcs/into dash's donut/out of range three/whatever works for what you are facing. Works well for my play style at least.

Wicked. I like the idea of using PTL like Turr Phenir's power. That's pretty sick for a large ship to pull off.

the title card just combos really well with engine upgrades just in case of overlapping.

engine upgrade doesn't pair well because you can't cause overlap on a boost, It was in the FAQ.

You cant cause overlap but whenever you overlap someone else you can use the boost to get just enough distance out of there.

At this point your probably out of there firing arc. Sry shoulda been a bit more specific with my original post.

Only if it's a small base ship right up against you. even then, no guarantee. Because your maneuver still bumps and stops movement, unless you are fortunately placed a boost just doesn't clear most ships, or if it does, leaves you in poor position.

This has generally been my experience in any case. Doesn't seem worth the four points.

Determination is nice (and cheap) and Rebel Captive and Isard are both invaluable in my book. I've never used the Rear Admiral though, but I have seen others on here add Veteran Instincts to push him to PS10.

I'd go with something like -

 VT-49 DECIMATOR: · Rear Admiral Chiraneau (46)

Determination (1) or Verteran Instincts (1) depending on whether you want extra tankiness or a possible Phantom hunter
· Ysanne Isard (4)
· Rebel Captive (3)
VT-49 DECIMATOR: · Patrol Leader (40)
· Darth Vader (3)

This leaves you with 3 points left over but I can't make up my mind whether I'd go with Mara Jade on the Admiral or a tactician to give Vader a little extra kick. I don't normally like adding anything else to Vader when he's crew but I might make an expection seeing as its a decimator and there's 16 hit points to chew through!

I skip Rebel Captive and take Moff Jerjerrod and get Darth Vader an Advanced Shield Upgrade. I have to buy another Decimator and try it. I love the idea of a Decivador, Doominator or whatever it is called!!

As long as you're touching, at least he won't be firing at you either.

The EU makes it a bunch easier to dodge some arcs though.

I ran this at a previous tournament, and it placed 3rd.

Doominator + Gunner

Captain Oicunn + Daredevil + Dauntless +  Engine Upgrade + Mara jade

Total 98 points.

Fun build this was, only got double Vader off 2 times. Oicunn with Daredevil is funny though gives you unnecessary stress. Would definitely run the Doominator again, though maybe without the gunner this time. I was thinking I would bring this list back but have a more defensive build on the second Deci. Something like this

Doomintator (43)

Captain Kenkirk + Rebel Captive + Engine Upgrade + Ysanne Isard + 1-3 point Elite Talent.

Total 97-100 points.

Not to sure what I should give Kenkirk for an elite Pilot talent, But last tournament I was in I saw a Decimator with Isanne Isard and EU, and it's survivability was tremendous, so I thought I would give it a try. I was thinking Lone wolf and keeping both Decimators on either side of the board and kinda trap the opponents fighters in the middle.

If you aren't running Gunner (maybe Determination), I'd say Mara Jade is very important on a Decimator. There are just way too many crits that can turn a winning game into a loss. Gunner at least gives you a chance against most of these crits. I will also say, running a Self Stressing Decimator squad also really wants Mara Jade.

Blinded Pilot

Injured Pilot

Weapon's Malfunction

Damaged Engine

I can't remember the rest, but those crits are tough to recover from without Gunner or with a self stressing build that takes up 60% of your squad.

*Spell of resurrection cast*

What are people's thoughts on running double Decimators in the current meta? I imagine that triple U boats will hurt, but they aren't that prevalent where I play to be honest.

Any thoughts on a good build with new/current cards? I was thinking:

Rear Admiral chirenaeu

Veteran Instincts

Vader Crew

Captain Oicunn

Predator

Gunner

Figure that Darth Vader used very sparingly and high PS Chirenaeu take care of aces, including Whisper.

Oicunn who will hopefully be ramming gets a lot of modifications/attempt at damage via Predator and Gunner, despite not taking actionsdue to bumps.

Cheers

So the list I posted? Nice! Any particular lists cause you much trouble? Did you write a battle report? Assuming a lot of your games your opponents scored 50 points due to low hulls on both your ships?

I'll stop the questions now.

Here is my bat rep on the day.

and another one by a friend of mine that I shared the list with who also won an SC with it.

I'd love to run something like this, but don't see where it fits in the current meta -- a single Deci w/ Vader & Gunner is a pretty solid Palp Aces counter, but the second Deci is dead weight in that list.

Against Trip Jumps, you're soaking up a lot of damage, sure, but are going to end up losing to their 2-3 dice primaries backed by some actual green dice.

Against crack swarms, yeah, fine, you're giving them a pretty bad day.

... I don't really think there IS anything else in the meta. I guess a good Dash player will likely eat this list alive, especially if the VCX (the new Dash partner) is able to stick around and keep pumping it's primary into your zero evade. If they brought Corran, though, gg on your part.

I really want to bring a single Deci & Ace, but I can't convince myself I won't walk into repeated Trip Jump lists at our upcoming Regional. Even double jumps & friend would be bad for a Deci/Ace, I think.

EDIT: Read the recent BatReps, and my only issue is that my area is much more on top of the meta. At the Regionals coming up, we're not likely to see many builds that don't fit the current archetypes -- crack swarms, Trip Jumps, and Palp Aces. We've had a couple Deci/Ace lists running around, not sure if they'll make it to Regionals or not. I'd LOVE to see a BatRep vs Palp Aces and Trip Jumps.

My thinking was that he would take enough damage getting shot and doing 1 vader at a time.  That one vader on an ace with no shields could be key.  It is more of a threat than anything.  I seldom used it but it was very threatening to the aces out there.  Due to Oicunn lower PS I felt that he might need a double tap of sorts and it seemed to pair better with predator.  I also wanted to keep them even points so the opponent wouldn't have an obvious target.  If you kill chiraneau - oicunn will bump and double tap.  If you kill oicunn, chiraneau has vader and is ps10.

For my flying style and strategy, this is the best kitting of the 2 of them and most effective.  A fairly new player I taught the game to also took it to a different store championship and finished 2nd.  He lost to triple toilet seats in the final but beat this same guy in swiss.  One mistake in the final and it cost him the game.

What does an ideal match vs triple Jumpmasters look like with this list? I honestly can't picture it.

If you are letting them fire off their ordinance than you have already failed.

Remember, the ones you bump and are touching, can't shoot at you.

To successfully fly this list against the triple toilet seats you have to think "bumper cars" and you have the bonus bumper car pilot - Oicunn!
