Advanced Adversary or how to introduce NPC named Heroes/Villains

Recommended Posts

Obi and Qui-Gon vs Maul. Episode 1

Obi and Ani vs Dooku. Episode 2

Palpatine vs Windu, Kit Fisto and 1 or 2 more Jedi. Episode 3 XDD :P

These are all examples of two-on-one scenarios. The last one with Sidious doesn't count, since he kills 2 or 3 Jedi before the fight even begins, so it's basically him vs. Mace Windu.

A group of 5+ PCs are going to chew through a single opponent in a couple of rounds, unless you're prepared to go "full retard" with his stats. We're talking 10 soak, 30+ WT and a minimum of 10 ranks in Durable. The only alternatives that I can see is that you'll need to either stack the environment very much in the NPCs favour or throw in some henchment; either a few rivals to pose an additional threat to the players and thereby divert their fire from the main NPC, or some minions to go with the squad rules and act as meat shield.

Hmm... I only agree a 65% with you about Palp vs 4 Jedi Council guys XD

Maybe was "off scene" ok. But a Makashi Finish could be enough to represent that scenes. Not sure. Yep the other two scenes were 2 vs 1. But its a small group idea itself.

My main games are with just 1 or 2 players actually. Of course I played with 3 or more, but my main game is a 1 player game.

Edge itself seems to push you further to the "Fight the Boss" style. Like the Hired Gun Signature Abilitie that can kill every minon, up to two Rivals just doing a not so much complicated check and spending a DP.

Maybe it's just my impression, but this seems one of the main focus: Have the final Duel Scene with the Boss. Solo or Group.

I don't know if it has been commented Josep, but in the GM kit they propose the possibility to give big bad guys two actions per turn. One during a normal initiative slot and another one at the end.

Said that, I agree that one guy fighting against a group has not been seen in the SW movies. It is more a computer game / manga / #@&!!?# thing.

Right. I will apply the Insquisitor rules on those big bad named chars. Special abilities and rules and the 2 rounds per turn would be enough in most cases.

About the second, well, the max we have seen or I remember from movies and Clone Wars (without considering Palp vs 4 Jedi XD) is two heroes vs 1 villain. Further than that number is the videogame influence propably.

My last DM said that there's a "BBEG" level that allows the enemy to act every time a PC finishes acting.  Essentially allowing them to have the exact same number of actions in each round as the party.  I haven't read up on all of the GMing rules, but is anyone else familiar with that?

Additionally, why are you giving the party the opportunity to gang up on them?  How many times do we see people in the movies (both heroes and villains) running?

If you want to make him memorable, simply have him run away as soon as he sees the party -- all the while harassing them over the intercom or through holovids.  He can simply be a disembodied voice that the party has only seen glimpses of.  Think Nute Gunray or General Grievous -- Gunray ran away from everyone all the time, Grievous never stuck around to fight anyone unless it was one or two.

First one is 2 players of the party. not the full party.

Second one is 2 members of the party again. And it was Anakin solo against him then Obi-wan solo against him. Then Anakin Solo against him.

The last one was a Nemesis vs. a nemesis a rival and 2 minions. Which at the start of the fight the rival and minions died. reducing it to a Nemesis vs. Nemesis. With the PC arriving later.

Sure that those Jedi Master from the council where Minions?

I'm not saying that it's impossible but... XD

About party size I supose the you include R2/3PO, Ani and Padme as the rest of party on Ep 1. And R2/3PO and Padme on 2. But not all parties are 3,4 or 5 members. The usual minimum is 2+ (based on core book and its Obligation scores).
