Debris Fields and shooting

Recommended Posts

Okay, now i know that the defender gets an extra defense die when you are shooting through an obstacle. Now if my YT-2400 is on the edge of one I know i can still shoot through it. But when does it count that i am shooting through the debris field? Also when I am being attacked do i get the extra defense die for being at least partial on the debris field.

Whether you are on an obstacle is irrelevant for obstructed attacks. All that matters is when you measure range (closest-to-closest) if the line between those 2 points overlaps an obstacle. So if you are half on an obstacle, but the half that is closest to the ship firing at you is not on an obstacle the attack is not obstructed.

You must trace a single line from closest to closest point between each model's base.

If the line passes over an obstacle, the defender gets +1 defence die from the obstruction.

Also, note that the line must be wholly inside your firing arc, ignoring this restriction if your pilot/weapon is able to fire outside its firng arc.

If your ship is on a debris field, you MAY perform attacks.

This is why I love reading the forums. I would have thought you couldn't attack.

I just learned something myself. I thought a ship could attack if it's on a Roid.

If the ship on the roid is being attacked though it still gains +1 evade dice against the attacker?

If I am attacking the ship that has landed on the roid my line of fire to that ship is clear and does not pass through any obstacles. IE. I am behind the defending ship and his front part of the base has hit the roid. My shot would not grant him +1 evade dice correct?

You got it :)

I am behind the defending ship and his front part of the base has hit the roid.

You should also keep in mind that when he moves again, he is likely to re-hit that asteroid, since his ship only has the front part on the asteroid.

Note, that if your ship is on a obstacle during the Combat Phase, you cannot attack.

For all obstacles the rule states that you can't fire when on an obstacle. Debris clouds are the only exception to this.

The only thing is that for officially sanctioned competitive matches only allow asteroids are allowed and make no mentions of debris clouds as acting different from any other obstacle. As of now if they are allowed then they act like normal obstacles.

Only in cinematic scenarios and casual play are you allowed to treat them as mentioned in the debris cloud rule card.
