Is Bacon becoming overpowered.

Recommended Posts

I've been holding my tongue as long as possible, especially knowing that I will face some backlash, but I prefer a good breakfast sausage over bacon in any breakfast list I build. Obviously, I'm talking an eat casual list, as the meta totally favors bacon at this point, but I'm using sausage in every casual breakfast I eat at home.

That's okay. You have the right to make bad decisions just like everyone else. :P

I had myself some Lorne square sausage for breakfast at the weekend.  On toast.  With a couple of fried eggs and some baked beans.

I felt like a traitor.  :(

Goat cheese is so overused. I mean it's on every salad and sandwich build you see lately. Everyone who's trying to be "meta-hip" is using it. I personally like a good Havarti with dill. I've even been known to throw caution and common sense out the window and take a horseradish cheddar much to my opponents confusion.

That's the problem, it was netlisted and now EVERYONE has to have it.  Just like with the Fat Ham Sandwich, the Shawarma along with the mini-Shawarma, and the Fanta. Now those are the only lists you see anymore. I really hate netlisting. It should be banned. I mean it was literally the next day after the Big Corn Dog appeared that everyone was trying it. Whatever happened to the Dagwood? Where you just take whatever's in the fridge and put it on two pieces of bread. Now THAT was good! And never the same way twice!

I just finished supper, mashed potatoes chicken bar b q sauce broccoli with cheese and topped with 1 slice of bacon just for flavoring . . . . on a Samich! Only thing I forgot was the pizza and that's cause the grandbaby got to it before me.

Tell me abot it! I still run the Reuben. And that lists gets you some weird looks.

Are you running a classic Rueben with corned beef, are you substituting pastrami, or using a combination of both? Me I prefer the classic, but them I'm an old fogie and set in my ways. :P

It was nice to see a themed lunch the other day (the 17th) everyone ran Corned Beef and Cabbage, Potatoes and Green Beer. It was really nice to not see Bacon for a whole day as it always gets eaten. It's even starting to become a staple in lists that feature Salads!

It was nice wasn't it? The nice thing about it is afterward we get a lot of lists with corned beef hash. (suggested by my friend Ghostrider)

Hmmm, true. Bacon is cropping up in the most curious places. My girlfriend even made a chocolate (dark) and pecan covered bacon list the other day.

Going back to the OP question, maybe it's not "Is bacon becoming overpowered?", but instead "Is bacon becoming overplayed?" A heretical question for some I know, but it's a hard question that needs to be asked. I mean its become so prevalent on the table lately its almost ridiculously overwhelming in its presence. I remember when all you saw it in was Eggs & Bacon, or in a BLT. Nowadays we even have "Bacon in a can" (I'm serious, look up "Tactical Bacon" for a laugh). When did bacon go from a pleasant addition to a must have? And why?

Unfortunately my FLSS only offers pastrami. I'd love to use corned beef if I could find it. Think B&N would carry it?
