KILODEN 914 Posted December 8, 2014 I have to say, with every preview I get more excited about this game. my only fear, is this game going to take away from my xwing gaming time? will FFG release game play campaigns to incorporate both systems? will Armada lead to similar ground based game on larger scale? 2 AlphaTwo and Corellian Corvette reacted to this
Extropia 1,475 Posted December 8, 2014 Well....i can safely say that it WILL take away from my X-Wing time, simply because working full time etc I only have X hours for gaming as it is, and I have to split that among all my games! That said, i am actually more excited for this anyway. I have always preferred the capital ship aspect of sci-fi, especially Star Wars, and so far the rules look superb! We can dream about a ground game.... 6 KILODEN, Corellian Corvette, clontroper5 and 3 others reacted to this

Brian_Black 105 Posted December 8, 2014 Given the time to only play one, my current impression would be that I'd pick Armada 80% of the time. I still enjoy X-wing, but the taste of larger battles that Epic gives that game is broadened even further here. 4 AlphaTwo, player829067, Cannis0013 and 1 other reacted to this
Jedhead 855 Posted December 8, 2014 I agree that Armada will have to replace X-Wing much of the time for me. I just don't have time to play both consistently, so Armada will probably win out a majority of the time. 2 Cannis0013 and Conundrum Eternal reacted to this
KILODEN 914 Posted December 8, 2014 that's the boat im in as well, been bouncing between xwing and battletech lately, my buddies wife will kill me if I show him another game..... so I showed him armada....... im in witness protection as I speak. 9 Cannis0013, GrimDeath58, Corellian Corvette and 6 others reacted to this

Xcerus 12 Posted December 8, 2014 (edited) To be fair - I am looking forward to running skirmish games of Imperial Assault alongside games of Armada and X-Wing in big campaigns.Attack a planet, if you win attack key ground positions before the defender can move a new fleet to break the blockade. Rebels break blockade by getting a tantive across a 6 X 3 from short end to short end alive in x-wing to resupply the ground forces etc etc Edited December 8, 2014 by Xcerus 1 pgarfunkle reacted to this
Mikael Hasselstein 6,898 Posted December 8, 2014 I think that this game has the potential to become my favorite game over X-Wing. Whether it does or not is not dependent upon the game itself but my gaming environment. If people in my gaming environment don't adopt it the way that they've adopted X-Wing, then it won't become my favorite game, because I won't get to play it. 2 Cannis0013 and Conundrum Eternal reacted to this

I'm team star wars not team armada or x-wing Agreed. Categorically. It's not Armada vs X-Wing. Its Rightful New Order of The Empire vs this insignificant and pitiful Rebellion. 1 lordreaven448 reacted to this
Cannis0013 42 Posted December 9, 2014 I have always loved the capital ships of Star Wars... the fighters are fun, but incomplete without the caps. I without a doubt am way more excited by Armada than I was about X-Wing and judging by the rules that have been released so, far I think I will enjoy the game more too. 2 player829067 and KILODEN reacted to this
ldodt 358 Posted December 9, 2014 We can dream about a ground game.... I would love to see a ground based tactical miniatures war game with vehicles and tanks and squads of troopers and air speeders and at-at's. We have the pilot experience, the commando experience and admiral experience now we just need the general. 2 MorpheusX and player829067 reacted to this

Hobojebus 11,341 Posted December 9, 2014 Well it depends on how fast a game of armada is, it could be a case of got an hour play some x-wing, got an evening play some armada. 1 ransburger reacted to this
Norsehound 2,740 Posted December 9, 2014 Two significant roadblocks to defecting X-Wingers are going to be Cost and Play-time. Some of our locals are not excited about dropping that much money for three ships, and the heftiness of the expansions don't help matters. Now, these prices may be "standard" for most other miniatures games out there, but X-Wing fans are quite used to the 15-30-45 price point for their most common ships, and starters being only $40. X-Wing's built up a reputation of being a cheap-to-enter game and Armada is not as "accessible" that way. Also, a lot of X-Wing players enjoy how quick these games go. I've never seen an epic match in my local store, and I get the feeling a lot of X-Wing players haven't embraced the epic scene because of the play-time. Not outside of a convention at any rate. Armada might be engaging across those two hours but it's still two hours. So my view is that we're going to have some overlap, but X-Wing and Armada are almost two different worlds. Most Armada potential fans I see come from larger wargaming backgrounds, like Saga or Warhammer or Flames of War. A lot of X-Wingers come from modest board game backgrounds where they haven't spent a lot of time and effort to get in. 2 player829067 and Conundrum Eternal reacted to this
DarthSidious 847 Posted December 9, 2014 We don't know how long Armada games are supposed to last, so making decisions based on it seems premature. As for the price point, it may be that the difference will be a wash. After all, lots of people have eight TIE Fighters (~$120 retail, give or take, @ $15 each), but we probably won't be able to fit in more than 2-3 of the larger ships (~$120 retail, give or take, @ $40 each). 1 Commander Kahlain reacted to this

IraShaine1972 4 Posted December 16, 2014 I have $800 in x-wing so far and still don't feel like I have enough variation to truly enjoy the game fully and there is another wave coming. Its approaching the cost of some of the larger 40k armies I have shelled out for.

I have a fair amount in X-Wing but that isn't the same as $300 for the Core and 1st Wave. That is a big difference. Maybe I won't need as many ships in Armada but this will the game be limited in the number of pieces FFG comes out with or???? I've considered of buying the core and a couple of the expansions and stopping there. Get a good game with enough expansions for variety and stop there. If I end up doing that I'll probably wait for the reviews. At this point I'm not terribly excited about the two additional (new) ships in wave 1 anyway. I could stick with what was in the movies (if balanced) and stop. Did I just say that? 1 Cannis0013 reacted to this
mazz0 2,910 Posted December 17, 2014 Well, it'll have to take time away from X-Wing, unless you have some free time where you were just not playing X-Wing cos you're bored of it (I don't). I hope I'll end up playing both quite often, but I fear I may find I prefer one over the other and will tend to play that when I get a chance to play something. Cannis0013 42 Posted December 17, 2014 I like the capital ships better (visually) and strongly suspect that I will enjoy Armada much more. I see so much potential in this game for both quick (2 hour) skirmishes and 12+ hour multiple mission scenarios. At this point X-Wing is beginning to look like the secondary (go to the fighter level after the fleets have engaged) game. And Imperial Assault is starting to look like boarding action/ground combat aspect of the experience... A trifecta of Star Wars awesomeness! 4 player829067, CobaltWraith, MaverickNZ and 1 other reacted to this
