Unofficial Survey: What non-Star Wars FFG products would you like to see?

Recommended Posts

I hate the way this sounds but star wars is the only FFG product line I'm interested in. Y

my gaming time is limited and if not for star wars would be devoted to the system I created, something GM Dave of the order 66 podcast contacted me about letting gamer nation studios publish.

I would like to see a RPG set in the historical period of the discovery of the New World (1492 and forward) with a twist of Horror and/or low fantasy (Pirates of the Caribbean sea style). Where PCs deal with the dangers of the sea, indigenous tribes, politics, unexplored land, ruins of ancient civilisations, superstitions, gods, curses etc.

A more gritty and mature setting than SW, but the same mechanics would be ok. May be restricting healing and incorporating mechanics for diseases and mental sanity (fishing this from Warhammer 3 makes it a very good starting point). Vehicle combat would need to be slightly tweaked to fit into naval combat but I don't see too much work there and may be incorporating the travel rules from TOR into the dice system (Warhammer 3 shyly tried to do it but failed).

I already see a supplement incorporating Leonardo da Vinci inventions for a bit of steam punk atmosphere

If Pinnacle Entertainment and Savage Worlds didn't already have the property, I'd say a REH's Solomon Kane RPG.

I know about Solomon Kane, nice setting and very close to what I describe, but I find the game mechanic of Savage Worlds horrible (I am being nice).

Is a bit what happened with SW. We played long time WEG SW, but we never picked up SW saga. Although I owe a great deal to D&D and AD&D, the D&D system is horrible for my expectations of a RPG (may be it is very good for computer games). It was not until FFG SW appeared that we give it another try to the setting.

Not to derail the thread, so we can take this elsewhere if you like, but I'm curious about your dislike of Savage Worlds. I've not played it yet, but a friend is a great GM when it comes to plot, art, etc., but not great (and often frustrating) when it comes to rules. He wants to run a Roman campaign, and I thought the simplicity of Savage Worlds plus the Weird Wars:Rome book would be perfect for him. We were going to adapt EotE, but it's too much work. So far he seems really happy with it, but we haven't had a game yet. Did I make a mistake?

Savage Worlds is my one of my favorite systems. Although I am not so tied to one system that I eschew others. Right now I'm running a 5E D&D game and will follow that up with a Star Wars game. I have run Deadlands, a fantasy setting, superhero and many others with Savage Worlds.

A fun fantasy game. Had Warhammer described to me and it seems too grim and dark and... well... bloody. I liked the way Pathfinder COULD be if the system wasn't unplayable for me. EotE version of a fantasy game. Maybe a setting something like Eragon? People say Eragon is Star Wars with the scifi dressing removed, anyway.

City of Bones for something modern. Hunting demons hiding in our own world could be a lot of fun.

I'd say Hunger Games but the third book annoyed me enough that I'm not sure...

Divergent / Insurgent / Allegiant is one choice I'd definitely make (see what I did there?)

(I'm not mentioning Twilight.... but I'm thinking it!)

Wow, totally forgot The Goonies.

Now if ever there was a movie that basically was an RPG session come to live this is it... It has dungeons, bad guys, mystery, treasure, a typical party of adventurers ranging from the nerd to the jock, the inventor to the comic relief, it has it all...

D20 game engine is a tactical combat sim. In particular it's a movie combat sim (in the films they didn't keep spamming the same force powers over and over, they mixed them up). For a star wars tactical combat sim SAGA is awesome and felt like star wars (the he 2 previous editions were D&D in space, did not feel like star wars). FFG is more about story than combat sim but the two systems had different design goals. Carbines in SAGA were actually definitively better than full fledged rifles for up close and personal ranged combat. That's something SAGA did better than FFG so it's not entirely one sided, but I think that FFG chose a better set of design goals.

Dune is such a rich storehouse of awesome even if you just stick with the Frank Herbert contributions. When you add in what his son and Kevin J Anderson did (BTW I got to meet them both at a Comic Con last year and I can't believe how awesome it was) then you have many times more fantastic features to add.

Video games have failed to due true justice to Dune though many times they tried. I was super excited about the Dune MMO until it turned out to be an MMO RTS?!? it was a strange concept that failed fast.

With Stargate as well you get a rich universe that can be a lifetimes worth of role playing. Also the coolest part about doing Stargate as an RPG you could bring in the elements of Stargate Universe and have them not suck so hard you destroy the franchise. =)

Hi everyone!

I would really love an Avatar/Legend of Korra world based game with rules like Edge or another new rule system. I love Edge system but also like surprises :D

What about you?

Same here actually.  I have been toying with the idea of trying to set out some ground rules, homebrewing the Edge system for ATLA/LOK.  Interested in swapping notes?  At the very least, whatever I come up with I would love to have it looked over by another Edge/Avatar/RPG fan.
