just got my first Phantom, any tips?

Echo is Very fun with her multiple movement options!

At the top of the forums is a *link list* by Majorjuggler. Under the movement links is one called amazingly enough echolocation and it is fantastic (especially in grid mode) for checking the movement options of various ships.

I have been using my brother-in-laws phantom but just bought my own today as well (still unpackaged and got him 2 ties for x-mas while I was at it).

I have only used a phantom in maybe 4 of my 16 matches but veteran instincts is great if you are using advanced cloaking device so you attack and auto recloak before getting attacked ( 4 defence dice is better than 2).

Some good advice in this thread!  I'm new to the game, and chomping at the bit to get my Phantom into the thick of it right off the bat!  I still have a small fleet, so I'm working up a 3 ship squad with Whisper, Soontir, and Backstabber.  Or, maybe just whisper and a mini-swarm of cheap TIE pilots....dunno yet.

The recommendation of just practicing moving the ships around sounds great.  One of those 'Duh' moments for me.  Oh yeah, just move it around the table and get used to it, brilliant!

I flew my Echo tonight for the first time since I purchased the Phantom, on the day of Wave 4 release.  Been flying Whisper since then.

Here is the one thing I think of with Phantoms.  Avoid stress.  At all costs, unless you are SURE that it will pay off.  Had I gone with a different movement other than the 4k I did here, I would have been able to shoot Wedge (who was maybe two ship bases ahead of Luke) but then Luke would have had a shot on my Phantom.  I followed killing Luke in that turn to sticking on Wedge's behind until I finally got the best of him too.

I also tried this Echo like this:

Echo

Moff Jerjerrod (to get rid of a disabling crit, though I didn't get to try this, so not sure if it would have made a big difference)

FCS

ACD

Decoy (was flying a VI Rear Admiral Chiraneau with Echo til he died to bump Echo to PS 10 for combat)

Had a blast.  And this happened to win the game for me:

Luke got hit hard - the force was not with him tonight.

Phantoms are a lot of fun.

I know I'm in the minority, but I'm not a fan of Veteran Instincts on Phantoms. I prefer EPTs that buff its offense or defense. If you have the YT-2400, I'd recommend Lone Wolf for an EPT, since it gives you re-rolls in the Phantom's natural environment: flying solo. My Phantoms have been doing really well with it in the last week or so. I've also started leaning towards Recon Specialist as a crew member.

Vi is a defensive upgrade on the phantom, moving last is a huge advantage for decloaking, at 7 there's plenty that gets to shoot before you and move after, being blind with a phantom is no fun.

Surprised nobody has mentioned this yet

Don't shove it up your nose. I know it looks like it should slide up and back out later, but the lasers on the end of the wing tend to flare out if you leave it up there for more than a few minutes, and then it's a real ***** getting it out. I had to call my mom.

VI buffs both. Offense since you will be able to see where most other ships will land and you won't miss a shot, or defensively, for the same reason, you see where the others are, you can arc dodge or use actions more wisely.

Sorry, by offense and defense I'm specifically referring to the dice. Should have been more clear on that. If I don't think I'm going to be able to get a shot off without getting pummeled, I'll stay/re cloak, and try to set up a better pass for the next turn.
