Guardians of Deephall - Update

Recommended Posts

Alas, nothing surprising ... With imperial assault and the merge with asmodee, it was inescapable that there will be late.

Now, I hope a new box will be announced soon ! if 4 boxes are announced on a year, we will have them all in less than 2 years

....

Thinking back again, it would be better if we could have them all before christmas 2015

preview up on main site,

Silhouette gets an improved heroic ability and a re-balanced feat. Looks playable but to squishy for front line killing and no access to skirmisher which would have been tailor made for the ability.

Wedingo look solid, inclusion of stealthy surprised me as i thought that they would drop the key word. Minions in act 2 have got a health boost of 1 by look of it.

On a side note, any one complaining about mini quality can stop and start on the art quality for Silhouette. With all due respect it is !"£$ing terrible. I mean, really really !"£$ing terrible.

Ugh.. I'm fully in agreement with those not happy with what they've done with Silhouette. Not only is her new art of really poor quality, but they unnecessarily nerfed the heck out of her Heroic Feat with the stamina change. She is now completely shut down by Imploding Rift, something most Overlords take quite early, and would be crazy not to with her in the party.

In order to be decent now she basically has to be a melee scout to take advantage of her buffed heroic ability, and I've never been a fan of melee scouts.

Sad times! :(

The feat needing toning down, it was ridiculously good and broke a lot of search quests.

Im still jsut angry with the art - its just...words don't describe. As a premium product i honestly expect better. Talia poor sculpt and now this art...

I also think Silhouette's artwork is sub-par. Her proportions are so wonkey that I felt very disturbed the first time I saw her.

I am one of the people constantly complaining about the very variable mini-quality ever since Nerekhall. One of the biggest complaints for me always was how the miniatures in Nerekhall had another bodystance than their good looking artworks. Now they do ugly miniatures first and lower the artwork-quality to fit the miniature quality? That's not the solution I had in mind.

While I was initially hyped about these monsters and heroes packs and thought about getting nearly every pack, I currently own 0 of them and don't have big plans as of now to change much about that. I thought that, well the miniatures and monsters I don't use at least bring me joy when painting them... but painting subpar miniatures is not fun.

There is currently only one pack with good quality minis (Crown of Desitiny) and that comes with monsters I really don't use (I only took the giant once and picked it never since). The one I am still considering is Crusade of the Forgotten, because of giants&sorcerers, sadly hero miniatures are kind of subpar (one hero misses it's face). I will get this as soon as this problem is fixed, but it doesn't seem to be ever the case.

The first pack's heroes are extremly bad quality and in this pack that comes with the awesome Wendigos and another dragon,... well if the hero-artworks look like that I don't expect much from the minis.

I really don't get FFG here. While Nerekhall has enough awesome stuff to buy it despite bad hero-miniatures, good looking, well produced miniatures is the sole reason to pick up these hero&monster packs. When I can't even decide what particular monsters and heroes I will get, at least make the stuff I get and couldn't care less about, fun to paint and look at.

I can't grasp how miniature packs with subpar quality miniatures are a good business-model and the most shops that don't even stock these packs seem to agree with me.

What a pity I'd love to spend money on these products, as long as they are good quality.

Did any of the minis really change stance other than Rendiel? i thought Orkell, Ravaella, and Tinashi were pretty close. I admit that I'm not as interested in the miniature quality as you are- as long as they are acceptable representations of the heroes/monsters (and most are much better than that) I'm more interested in the variety they add to the game.

Yes. Ravella also has a pretty different stance and bodeylanguage as well. What's worse is that her clothes changed quite a bit in the miniature version of herself (they changed her fancy and individual trouses and wizardrobe to some kind of double mini-skirt). Her miniature also got pigtails or some long ribbons emitting from her head and her magic staff got bunny-ears, all things that aren't present on her artwork.

Tanashi and Orkell didn't change bodeystance or bodeylanguage, but they have other big shortcommings. Orkell is pretty ok apart from his melted face and melted details, but Tinashi's face looks like a blowfish, her hair have very little in common with the dreadlocks of her artwork and a few other minor things.

All in all it doesn't ruin the game or even made me not buy Nerekhall, but when I pay the original price for these games I really want quality components that are in line with the base game, which they obviously are not. So instead of buying Nerekhall for the original price I waited until I found a good deal and bought it second-hand and don't regret my choice of buying this expansion, because of all the cool stuff and variety it does provide.

However the hero and monster packs, for someone who owns the conversion kit (and I think it's basically required to enjoy the base game), don't really add anything new, apart from the miniatures and new artwork. That's why I think good minis and artworks are crucial for these products and to me bad minis and artworks defeat their purpose.

Why would conversion kit be required to enjoy the base game? I never bought it, still don't have it, and have plenty of fun.

Maybe I put this badly, because I didn't mean to say that it is required to have fun, it's just my opinion.

As the OL I found that the handful of monsters that come with the base game don't really offer a compelling strategic choice which monster to use and the heroes were always fighting the same monsters, so the game was becoming boring very quickly for me and my group.

The CK is the cheapest expansion that offers new monsters and it comes with a whole bunch of them, so it's the cheapest way to expirience what this game is capable of. To me it turned this into one of my 2 favorite games, while I wasn't sure about keeping the game before.

I am actually more interested in the crypt dragon figures the 1st edition ones were just too big and we couldn't be bothered using them for that reason alone!

Yes!

Crypt dragon looks cool, almost as cool, as valyndra.
