pittplayer 0 Posted June 8, 2009 make a team consisting of H.P. Lovercraft, Clark Ashton Smith, and Robert Howard!! they have to be meant to be played together and by them selves.
pittplayer 0 Posted June 8, 2009 i think that cas is meant to be a high lore spell caster, rh is the fighter, and hpl is the gate closer.
thecorinthian 3 Posted June 8, 2009 Ah c'mon, that's just tacky. There have been loads of HPL investigators already, and even one or two Robert Howard ones. I once played a game where all four players were playing as different HPL fan characters, for pete's sake. Let's give a few other authors a chance. But don't be surprised if I recycle these ideas on to other less-gimmicky custom investigators later. And btw, the pictures I've used below look nothing like the real people. First, you get William Hope Hodgson, author of The House on the Borderland. Hodgson died in battle at Ypres in 1918, allegedly due to his willingness to rush blindly at the enemy. So let's pretend he survived the war. He's your monster-fighty guy. Next up, your spellcaster: Algernon Blackwood, author of The Willows and The Wendigo and many other ace supernatural stories. Blackwood was a member of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, the obvious real-life inspiration for the Silver Twilight Lodge, so he's a perfect fit for AH. And last but not least, to explore the gates, Arthur Machen! Author of The Great God Pan, The Novel of the Black Seal, The Hill of Dreams, and other stuff. One of Lovecraft's favourite authors, and also an intermittent Cabalist and Grail scholar. There you go.
Graksnor 0 Posted June 9, 2009 Love 'em. And they give me more leads for following stories down. No offense Pittplayer, but I have seen around a dozen HP Lovecraft fanvestigators since signing on, and I've only been on for like a month. It was overused so much it became lame, then went to ironically cool, and now is back to post-ironically lame. Give it a month, and it will go to meta-post-ironically cool. pittplayer 0 Posted June 9, 2009 you all keep saying there is a bunch of these characters? i dont see them! i have searched the boards and i read everyones posts if there is a bunch links? anyhoo thecorithian: great job!! love the even more obscure characters! fixed possessions kind of lacking whouldn't you say? but great theme i love the Machen one! love you fit their stories in their abilitys names!! I am still working in my investigators, but here is some ideas HPL Fixed: Neconomicon Ability: may discard a tome to seal a gate instead of using clues And one message to all the haters: please dont post messages that just say "your ideas suck" you may not like peoples posts but at least they are trying to have fun and come up with ideas to entertain, instead of complaning, contribute! Graksnor 0 Posted June 10, 2009 Sorry, didn't mean to hate. I do really like your challenges, and respect the effort in coming up with this one. No offense was intended.
thecorinthian 3 Posted June 10, 2009 @Pittplayer: There were at least 4 different Lovecrafts at one point, although some of them were probably back on the old forums and I don't still have the image files. Some of them were ok, but none of them were really interesting - it was just another fun thing whihc a lot of people tried to make for a laugh. About fixed possessions: I don't like 'em! Well, sometimes, anyway. Quite often, fixeds are either an attempt to force the player to play in a particular way, or else it's a clumsy way of adding 'theme'. So I thought I'd give myself an added challenge by designing these three without any major fixed items, without any skill tracks above 2-5, and with one special ability each. Algernon Blackwood has two special abilities, but they're really just two sides of the same ability, so I'm happy enough. I look forward to seeing your HPL - giving him the Necronomicon is a bit of an obvious cliche, but that ability with the tomes does sound interesting. @Graksnor: Pittplayer's challenges are all great fun if you're willing to completely ignore the rules! Which is why my Lovecraft/Howard/Smith team didn't feature Lovecraft or Howard or Smith. Notice that it is also much easier to get away with calling the challenge 'lame' and 'tacky' if you distract Pittplayer with some shiny new investigators at the same time. pittplayer 0 Posted June 10, 2009 dont have strange aeons so if you want to do these up as characters feel free!! (wink wink)! Herbert Phillips Lovecraft Fixed: Necronomicon Know This Evil: Discard a tome to seal a gate. Haunted: Mythos: If hpl is the first player, flying monsters ignore their normal movement and move to hpl's location. High luck, sneak Clark Ashton Smith Fixed: Cursed Sphere Secrets To Terrible: Once per game, remove a doom token off the doom track, put a blight card into play. Bound For Darkness: Gains +1 to all checks while in a unstable location. High lore, will Robert Howard Fixed: Golden Sword of Y'ha-Talla Protective: If rh has a ally, he gains +1 to his combat checks for each monster in his location beyond the first. Low sanity, high fight
pittplayer 0 Posted June 10, 2009 it occurs to me that cas may be too overpowered he should start off with a corruption.
