Making Warhammer 40,000: Conquest Tokens Sexy!

Recommended Posts

Yeah,
Warhammer 40,000: Conquest has cardboard dials and a lot of tokens.

On the whole they are pretty OK.
But they are let down by the brown card board edge... yukky.

I decided to paint the edges.
I already had these pens from making my x-wing tokens sexy.

I spent 2 hours painting the tokens from two core sets!
Enough for two people to share during a game and no worrying about mixing tokens stocks.

It's bloody boring... easy though.
I painted the dials before assembly to make getting the eye lens easy.

The pens are about £3 - £4 each... quite expensive, I used 4;

Uni Posca Slate grey
Sharpie 'Paint' Red
Sharpie 'Paint' Lime Green
Sharpie 'Paint' Aqua

I'm pretty happy with them.

yeah,
I used the medium pens in the photo.
They were all given a single coat of ink, except the green token which I gave two coats to make it pop a little more.

For X-wing getting into the corners of the Target locks is impossible with the mediums.

I used fine points for my Target Locks, but those pens dried up pretty quick...
It's best to use mediums for all the grunt work!

Thanks for this, Panic.  Picked up my copy last night and some paint pens today and it is looking great. I will be the envy of my friends when we play tomorrow.

Not to mention the game is just really fun.

Yeah,

I picked that pen up on holiday in a art store, because I couldn't find a grey sharpie 'paint' pen

I'm not sure how popular the posca brand is?

If you've painted your tokens with the Art Deco you could give feedback on the pens your using? :)

The xwing guy I originally copied used GW citadel paints and brushes on his tokens but he reported that it took mega hours to do his.

That's why I used the pens.

It was boring but easy.  The lime green for the first planet token took maybe 3 coats to get that bright look.  The blue and red just took 1 coat each.  The pens worked great!

I used fine tips for red and blue, and a wide tip for the lime green.  I didn't really notice a difference when using them though.

Also, in the picture I posted, the edges of the blue tokens looks like a very different shade, I guess due to the flash?  They blend in much better than that in normal lighting.
