Imbue Item

Recommended Posts

With the Imbue Item talent, can the user commit 2 dice and activate the power on a weapon and armor.  If that possible, can the user upgrade weapon damage twice or is it more like juryrig, one upgrade per item?  It seems unclear to me in the description.

My read of Imbue Item, based on the full description in the Talents chapter, is that much like the Jury-Rigged talent from EotE/AoR, you only get to affect a single item as you can only commit a single Force die, and the talent's not ranked.

If the Artisan wants to change the affected weapon or item, they'd need to cancel the talent and then re-commit a Force die on their turn.

Pretty sure that in the rules on committing Force dice in the Force chapter, you can't commit multiple Force dice to the same effect (such as committing 2 Force dice to Sense's Control Upgrade to be able to upgrade the difficulty of incoming attacks).

Does anyone else think this talent is kinda weak compared to Jury-Rigged?  The ongoing Strain cost seems a little much to me.

Of course, it doesn't necessarily need to be as good as Jury-Rigged as long as it is worth the xp paid for it.

In some ways it does seem kind of weak compared to Jury-Rigged but there are some differences that may put it back on par with that talent. First, from reading the full talent, Imbue Item isn't limited to items in the character's possession. It can be useable on any item within Short range. This would allow a non-combat oriented PC to beef up another player's weapons and armor.

Second, with Jury-Rigged, once you've applied it to a particular personal item it's on there until you lose it or it's destroyed. With Imbue Item you can change which item, whether your own or another character's, as often as need be. Even during a single combat encounter so long as you can handle the Strain cost.

Not really.

The trade-off is that Jury-Rigged can't be applied "on the fly" and is limited to an item the character is using.  Imbue Item on the other hand can be assigned "on the fly" and can be used on another character's weapon.  I saw this get put to good use during one of the FFG slots I was in when the Artisan used Imbue Item on the Niman Disciple's double-bladed lightsaber to reduce the cost of activating Linked by 1, making it far more likely for the Disciple to get that second hit on his attacks, which was certainly helpful as we were fighting MagnaGuards.

I missed the part about using it on other people's gear.  That's a good point.
