Portraying our favourite PC/NPC's. Who is yours?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone!

I just have a curiosity. In our games we just try to look for portraits (picture or drawed) of almost every important/recurrent NPC, and off course, PC's.

I imagine that this is a common pratice. For example, my main player's chracters is Chris Prine, and his wife is Candice Swanepoel.

I have an enourmous list with more than important 80 NPC's. Each one with a picture.

Would you like to share your own? ;)

Me mate Dougan does a "Roll Call" blog entry every time we start a new campaign or a new character joins the team, and they're usually pretty funny.  After the first session with his sniper character we still knew almost nothing about Steve's background so he came up with this:

On an unknown world was an unknown town,
In the unknown town was an unknown street,
In the unknown street was an unknown house,
In the unknown house was an unknown family...
who were dead... due to unknown causes.
Probably Empire did it tho, right?

(I have no idea how he chooses our mug shots, beyond those of pre-generated characters.)

Depends on the species. It’s hard to tell one Gand from another, so it’s easy to re-use the same small handful of pictures.

For my Wookiee, I look for artwork that has already been done for other characters and I try to see if I can re-use it. Same for my LE-series repair droid. Wookieepedia has been a great resource in this area, as has been doing Google searches for images. Don’t ignore deviantart.com, either.

I like doing voices and dialects for my NPCs. I'm not a master at it but it's fun.

I've had a Bothan spy who I based on Christian Slater (specifically his Jack Nicholson impression from Heathers), and a Bothan mechanic loosely based on Christopher Lloyd's Doc Brown.

I also introduced Cad Bane as an NPC, and had a lot of fun working on his voice.

More recently I featured a Chevin businessman who I based on the old-time radio character The Great Gildersleeve.

Voice-wise, I’m not as good at doing Wookiee sound effects as Charlie is. He is truly awesome at doing a wide variety of voices and various sound effects. However, what I lack in talent, I more than make up for in sheer volume. But I do try to keep it dialed back a bit, for the benefit of the other gamers in the store. I work to keep it below 120-125dB.

For the LE-series repair droid, I based my voice on Kryten from the british TV show "Red Dwarf". Personality-wise, I mix in a bit of Bender from "Futurama" and HK-47 from the KOTOR game. Fortunately, this character isn’t particularly loud.

I do it all the time for NPCs. For example in our last campaign Judi Dench played a head of an Imperial Intelligence bureau that dealt with the PCs and Jason Statham was her right-hand field agent (he eventually had to put down the PCs...). Using actors makes it easier for my players to remember who is who.

Awesome!

I would like this picture http://images2.fanpop.com/images/polls/233000/233567_1241861782134_full.jpg (or the same in better res)

With "Dathomirian green" eyes. Of course Jedi robes (without hood) would be awesome too XD The background must be intact. Reminds me the Light Side background from KOTOR games XD

Any volunteer please? Thanks!

I have probably in the neighborhood of 400 of the WotC star wars minis. So I find an appropriate mini and then I Google search for a picture of the mini and put that up on the obsidian portal site. An advantage of this is that I know which mini to use in case I ever need to use the character again.

We haven’t really used minis in our campaign until quite recently, when the combats have gotten large enough that we’ve kind of needed them. So, I’ve been … spending more money than I should … at Miniatures Market, and I’ve picked up a pretty good array of some of them.

This past game session, I was able to give a few as early Christmas presents to the other players. Our Khaleesh Bounty Hunter got the Khaleesh version of General Grievous, because that’s the only Khaleesh that WotC did:

SWMTF28.jpg

Our Corellian Smuggler got a couple of Corellian Pirates, including the Promo version with a nice shiny pistol:

SWBHPRO-CP.jpg

Our Mon Calamari got one each of most of the various figures, including an Admiral Ackbar, but our favourite is the Mon Calamari Technician, because the color is so badly off — and his character has a history of painting his entire body with Booster Blue, so we figure that if he was normal colored underneath, then this might actually be a pretty good approximation of his real color with all the Booster Blue added:

SWAE14.jpg

Our Klatooinian Heavy got slightly shafted, because MM is currently out of stock on their two different versions of this race, but I’ve got them on back order.  Meanwhile, he picked out a different mini that would work okay.

I do now have both Jabbas, several Twi’leks, and small armies of various droids, Rebel soldiers, Old Republic soldiers, and a bunch more.  And my biggest order yet is still pending on my MM wishlist.

I buy my minis from trollandtoad.com  I wasn't willing to to pay ~$23 for Jabba, so I bought one of these

My main character, Captain Mina Kaylo is based on a young Elizabeth Taylor, but with a bit of 'punk' attitude.

She's Corellian, but since most Corellians are tall, she's only 5' 4", but she walks with the attitude and swagger of someone who is 7' tall.

I've a bunch of sketches and drawings of her. I grabbed this pose from a Bruce Timm drawing. Every drawing I've done, she's wielding a different blaster pistol.

Each drawing, I've changed the color of her corset top to match the strip in her hair. Her cabin is probably a mess of different colors from constantly applying hair dye when arriving at every space port.

This is my alternate character J'Gira, a Cathar Force-Sensitive Emergent Marauder, wielding two Truncheons. I based her look off of one of the main characters from the comic Gold Digger. I really haven't locked down how to play her, so she's really not my favorite character to play. She was once the pet of a Hutt and then later, a Gladiator, who won her freedom. She almost maxed out in the Enhance Powers (haven't touched that far left section yet). This is a character I developed the Cathar War Staff for.

Alright, I won't monopolize the thread anymore ^_^

A really good, low-cost alternative to metal minis is Cardboard Heroes, a line from Steve Jackson Games. Basically, you download a PDF, print it, paste the page to the back of a cereal box, cut out the individual figures, and glue the bases together.

They only do fantasy sets, but in my group, we've taken to making our own cardboard minis. We just use the SJG Cardboard Heroes stuff as a template. Basically, just take their PDF and paste in your own characters over it. You have to have access to graphics-editing software, but there are freeware programs that can do it. (Indeed, a Google search reveals several ready-made templates that don't require a purchase at all.)

Whenever I get to play and not GM, I usually play this lady.

Yamira Daq. A Jedi in exile who escaped Order 66 by being thrown out of the order prior (and her connection to the force severed)* to its execution. A long story short: Her master was a Seer who saw the Order coming and arranged for her exile.

*It's quite obvious her story was based on Meetra Surik from KotOR II.

This is my crew, I made this in photoshop, though i didn't draw any of the characters, rather then edited and filtered ones I found on the internets...I'm really bad at drawling people, but decent enough at photoshop

Center is my character Upgrade, he is an Outlaw Tech/Mercenary, due to a group of slavers he lost both his arms and replaced one of them with a Super battle droid arm, the other is a modified version of a standard cybernetic limb.

He leads a group called Raptor CORP, along with his childhood best friend, Vee'Vee, the Jawa to the left, a Letha Twi'lek medic that he worked out a deal with a Hutt for her freedom, and several battle droids, including "Cookie", the Super battle droid he "barrowed" his right blaster arm, that he replaced with a spatula and and re-programmed to be his crew's cook.

The ship in the background he inheirited from his father after he was kidnapped by the same slavers that Upgrade lost his arms to, named the "Raptor's Burden", the and features some added weapons and tie solar panels, as well as the Raptor CORP logo painted on the front.

Gotta share todays NPCs. They crew entered the diner to find the place in shambles;the Whipihid owner just severely beaten down for not paying his monthly "insurance" installment to Jabba. He says they'll be back tomorrow for payment, plus interest. The crew makes a plan to help out. The next day in walks a 1meter tall Chadra Fan. The players were truly initially shocked! How could this guy take out a Whiphid. He's pararding about, smashing over the salt, pepper, menu holders and shouting for his money, all the while sounding like an enraged Tatoo from Fantasy Island.

After some awesome roleplaying and dice rolls, they get him to leave with just 1000 credits and no broken legs. At the door he turns and says his associates would now come and collect the rest. The twilek face starts to go after him, only to be met at the door by an enormous Houk who tosses him across the diner. The wookiee fires a shot at him, miss but scores 2 triumphs.

A paaserby would have seen 3 more Houks trying to enter the diner with C Fan waiting in the speeder. The 2triumphs cause the door to slam closed on the Houks arm, and the blast windows to slide into place. The arm flails about until he is pulled in. Inside, pcs finish off the thug to much screaming. The door opens back up, the face looks out and says "You made me get up...". His coercion roll is a Triumph. CFan gathers up his thugs and speeds away. It was just awesome.

I share this here because I made the racketeers up on the fly, but I instantly fell in love with them.
