OT: Did you enjoy Star Wars Rebels Episode 1?

Recommended Posts

Ug... So watched the first two eps so far... Very predicable. Empire folk are stupendously useless. Even lightsabery bit was boring... Who ever drew the Wookies need shooting... Music was like Star Wars, but not quite... Blah... Not a fan lol... Hoping it will get better...

For the most I have to disagree.  The IMP NAVY pilots did well, one even bullseyed a main character on a speeder bike. without rapid fire action.  The specialist type guys did awesome IMO.  Only one had a questionable death.

You mean pretty much exactly like they were against the heroes of all the Star Wars movies? Unless you count them shooting 3-CPO, the storm troopers don't exactly have a lot of effect.

I've only seen "Droids in Distress" and I enjoyed it enough that I'll be buying a season pass.

Obviously it's aimed at 10-year-olds, but overall it feels like a Star Wars RPG campaign in cartoon form. I think I'll be mining some of its ideas, characters and locations for my campaigns.

I love that Paul Reubens (Pee Wee Herman) has a voice cameo in the episode I watched, and getting the real Anthony Daniels is great.

Haha no kidding, my friends are always asking why I say 'ducking' so much... lol

My worse was accidentally sending a text to a female coworker instead of my wife, thanks to auto fill. Just an invitation to skip work together for some other activities. I discovered my mistake when the coworker replied and accepted my invitation. That was an awkward conversation with the coworker to explain the mistake. She still kids me about that though.

Except when they storm the tantive that whole battle on hoth...I'm sure Han was running away from them on the deathstar just because it was time for his daily cardio

Fact is in the OT they were never a joke like they are in rebels.

May want to read what I actually said... I said they were never effective against the heroes I quite intentionally said that in fact, because what happens in a fight between extras doesn't matter much.

The fact is they were as much of a joke when fighting Han, Luke and the rest as they are in Rebels.

Han ran away from them, after chasing a bunch of that were running away from him... Hardly first rate elite troop behavior there, a full squad of them running from 2 people.

Or how about the part where 5 or 6 of them can't even manage to hit Luke or Leia when they're just standing there?

Or the whole company of them taken out by a bunch of teddy bears on Endor?

So when we have a fight between nameless troops and storm troopers in Rebels maybe then the Storm Troopers will be able to hit the broad side of a bantha, but they have the same accuracy against the heroes in Rebels they did in the movies.

The Storm Troopers were never intended to be taken as a serious threat in the movies, they're nameless faceless mooks, who only can preform when they're facing other mooks.

Might as well say that Red Shirts are vital members of the crew in the ST shows...

Dont forget ROTJ they did awesome in space till the end.  The overall ground battle was great, if you use every medium that is about that conflict and or about creatures on endor.

What it all comes down too why the Empire lost at Endor, it is Because of Luke.  If Luke had not come to Endor the elite and command of the Rebel Alliance would be dead.  The main character would have been killed by Scout Troopers or eaten by Ewoks.

Storm troopers are not the regular army they are the elite of imperial ground forces they are the vanguard of an invasion and are meant to strike terror into the empires enemies.

In rebels one gets tossed a grenade and just catches it and holds it, the troopers on the SD know their being BS'd but instead of trying to shoot the intruders they just tilt their head and wait to get punched.

No one expects them to be gunning down the heroes in a kids show but they were made to look **** pathetic to the point no military force deploying troops of that calibre could hold a world never mind an empire.

Again, extras vs extras. Of course they held the own, it wouldn't of been a very interesting fight if all you saw was tie after tie getting blown up.

Yes because Luke like other heroes in Star Wars have always made the bad guys look like a joke, unless it's someone important like Vader. It's pretty classic movie tropes there, the good guy can't get hurt by the mooks unless it's either part of the good guys plan, or it aids the good guy in some way

They look about the same in the show that they do in the OT. When facing the Heroes they are a joke. When facing off against extra's they're not, and that's exactly how they were in Rebels...

Unless again you think a whole squad of elite troops running from a guy and a wookie was a cunning plan on their part.

True, I chock it up as encounter with emo troopers.  There depolyed forces in the Empire that feel they and there assaignment is a joke so there skills go down hill, in there mind they are a lose.  Baron Fel join a force that was in such a state, the 37th.

They have been shown to have great skill in the movies, one example is the Sand Troopers, not one dies from enem fire.  Or the troops on the DS, we see them do a tactical retreat to get cover and fire suport, famous scene with Han chasing Troopers.

The get a bad rap about accuracy because the gun the normally carry is powerful, fastfiring, but not accurate.  Han misses at poin blank range with said weapon.  The rest of the heros barely do better with it.

My fav bit with Scouts was when one turns around and slaps Han across the facee stuning him.

Why does everyone think nobody gets hurt in kid's shows?

I saw people die or nearly die -constantly- in the shows I used to watch as a kid. Mortal danger hasn't left TV for kids, trust me.

Not generic people the heroes, who can apparently walk into blaster fire without having to worry about getting hit

That's just stuff someone made up to explain what happened in the movies. Han and Luke didn't have any troubles with aim when they were shooting the cameras. Leia didn't have any issues hitting storm troopers who couldn't hit her or Luke.

Han also uses it quite effectively before he starts chasing them, he didn't have any trouble hitting with the weapon. He also kills another before he turns around and starts running...

famous scene with Han chasing Troopers.

You mean the one put in for comedic effect? They outnumbered him 7 to 1, and had the drop on him. Yet they still can't hit him and he only turns and runs when he's out numbered 14 to 1 or so... 30+ to 1 in the newer versions.

And they have been a sci-fi punch line for almost 40 years. Literally. Stormtrooper incompetence has been a staple joke of sci-fi fandom ever since the original movie came out

The Stormtroopers being taken seriously ended with Return of the Jedi for me. They seemed SOMEWHAT competent in the first two, but Lucas kind of ruined it (among other things) in ROTJ. I have no problem with their portrayal in a show aimed at children. And if you can't enjoy a pretty well written (for what it is) TV show for kids because of how the expendable baddies are portrayed then the show isn't for you. But hey to each his own! I for one am liking this show more than Clone Wars so far!

I liked it.

Probably more importantly, my daughter and nephews liked it.  I tried getting them to watch The Clone Wars, even picking what I considered to be good episodes for them to screen, and they just didn't get into it much.  But they liked Rebels.

No, even in a new hope they were worthless. The scene that really drove it home to me was when Ben was killed. A group of Stormtroopers can't even come within 10' of hitting the main characters but Luke, an inexperienced farmboy who has never been in a battle before that day, using the exact same weapon, bullseyes the door control with a single shot.

Even untrained force sensetives can benefit from it, same as when he bullseyes  the vent.

The wife and I watched the pilot 'movie' last night. We hd a grat time watching it, though the CGI on the wookiees was definitely a blast from the early 90s.

And I think the Gozanti is more likely to be the (smaller) Imperial huge than ever before.

And, sure, it was clear that the creators were inspired elsewhere, and Aladdin may be a bit too close to the original... but I think he's fun, and why not - but I'd rather he look Middle Eastern than yet another blond white kid.

Oh sure, didn't mind him at all.  I just kept expecting him and his pet monkey lizard to suddenly appear and break into song while they stole fruit.

Well that's because lots of people underestimate Ewoks and also claim said Ewoks defeated the Empire when they didn't.  Just by the back door the Rebes technically had two different Commando groups, most of those guys died, and the human ones should have had similar training that Storm Commandos had because there teacher was the guy that developed the Storm Commandos and there tactics.

Yeah thats because he was focused in effect tuning into the force.  That being said you see all the main characters miss at way closer ranges with the E-11 because its a hard gun to use because its in accurate, its a street sweeper meant for larger scale engagements.

You literally see Han miss at point blank range with this gun, you never see troopers miss at that range, maybe close range BUT never point blank like Han Solo did.  The Hero missed more times than your accounting for, even in this new series the main characters miss troopers, although from what I recall it was one of those specialty troopers IM hoping is  NAVY Commando.

Respectfully your not given them enough credit for good tactics they make.  Like before hand I mentioned the famous scene were Han "Chases" some Stormies than runs away when he sees they ran into a room with a bunch of there friends.  People mistake them constantly shooting the wall even after han runs away as bad aim when really its suppressive fire, they don't want him to have any opening to pop around the corner and shoot them.  Since they all have comlinks in there helmets and IM sure there CO was aware of there situation and had them draw Han into the Hanger to ambush him.  By that time Han had been killing the guys when there were in small deployments, odds are there CO wasn't putting up with that bs.
