Demo games with a single core?

I would like to demo some games of Conquest to my gaming group. Am i correct that by using say, the Ork and Marine cards from a single core set i could run a few basic demonstration games?

Absolutely. That is the recommended pair and the same factions that will be in the upcoming demo decks that FFG is releasing.

Those are the games that I have played. Just Demo games from the Core set. Good for learning, teaching etc.

In fact, the official demo decks don't have all of the cards from the core (no ranged units) and no neutral cards. They are abbreviated decks to teach the basics. Maybe your FLGS has one? Mine does, and I've already played several games with it, with different people. Orks and marines, you get the basics.
