quasistellar 736 Posted September 20, 2014 You're definitely not the only one. That said, I actually like him--he kinda fits the fluff, and you can fly him with reckless abandon.
millernumber1 119 Posted September 20, 2014 I kind of like it. It can be a horrible liability - I did it once on a Koiogran that wasn't even completed because someone denied my destination point, lost an HP, and then was taken out in two volleys - but I've also played where it's almost like flying a Defender, keeping the target in arc and being able to focus or target lock with ease. TallTonyB 1,210 Posted September 20, 2014 I wouldn't take him to a tourny, but in fun friendly games it's awesome to see how long he can be a beast before he finally blows to hell and back.
X Wing Nut 2,309 Posted September 20, 2014 Even with r5d8? i found he works good can k turn and lose stress and may not take a damage if you do you could heal yourself with r5d8 what's not to like
quasistellar 736 Posted September 20, 2014 (edited) Porkins' card needs to be errata'd to read: When you receive a stress token, you may remove it and roll 1 attack die. On a [hit] result, deal 1 facedown Damage card to this ship, and yell "I can hold it!" Engine25 2,910 Posted September 21, 2014 I love Porkins in Furball. At the FLGS, we play a 35 point furball one a month to get bonus points for our league. Porkins is great with the right upgrades. However, I feel like he really NEEDS upgrades, and with my luck, it's difficult to justify spending a lot of points on a ship that is likely to career damage to himself. When he works, he's amazing. When he doesn't, it hurts.
Sekac 3,311 Posted September 21, 2014 Yeah his problem is that his ability only really shines when you pile on the upgrades. Then he's just a ridiculously expensive X-wing.

TabletopXwingPilot 483 Posted September 21, 2014 Nera Dantels costs the same points and arguably has a better ability and ship!
ObiWonka 7,040 Posted September 21, 2014 Put me in the "I like Porkins and think he's fun to fly, but I wouldn't take him competitively" category. 3 Engine25, quasistellar and catachanninja reacted to this
Skargoth 1,703 Posted September 21, 2014 I think the trick is not to use his ability every time. Taking stress from a K turn? Yes, remove and get actions! Taking stress from PtL? Just green maneuver next turn.
stuffedskullcat 1,132 Posted September 21, 2014 I LOVE Porkins... Wait, is this about the game?
Old Adept 104 Posted September 21, 2014 Whats not to love? Its a great ability that he dosnt need anyone or anything to trigger. And an astromech can help maybe if he screws it up.
catachanninja 4,131 Posted September 21, 2014 I haven't played him yet, he seems entertaining but to me x wings seem to frail to risk self damage with.
BentoSan 86 Posted September 21, 2014 Whats the thematic reasoning behind this card anyway ? His lard protects him from stress but instead stresses the ship to the point of damaging it ?
ObiWonka 7,040 Posted September 21, 2014 Whats the thematic reasoning behind this card anyway ? His lard protects him from stress but instead stresses the ship to the point of damaging it ? You'll notice his lard (I assume you mean card, but it IS Porkins we're talking about...) damages him by removing Stress, which is exactly as you say. I believe the lore is something to do with his computer being set incorrectly, making him think he had room for his maneuver when he didn't. 1 BentoSan reacted to this
ID X T 820 Posted September 21, 2014 Nera Dantels costs the same points and arguably has a better ability and ship! Except, Porkins has a more useable ability and 2 more pilot skill and can be run naked. Whereas Nera costs at least 2 more points for her ability to actually do anything. She has the better ship to be sure, Porkins is just let down by the crappiness of the X-wing, and even then put some points into him and he has great synergy. Porkins with PtL, Engine and R5-D8 have amazing synergy. Next to Farlander, Jek is probably the best guy to use stay on target on. Porkins is criminally underused. But so are most of the x-wings, mainly because they suck in the mobility focused meta. They just get chewed up by more manoeuvrable ships.
Marinealver 8,068 Posted September 21, 2014 How can you not like Porkins? yeah, the movie didn't do a good job of explaining why he blew up and die other than "He's the fat man."
Duraham 750 Posted September 21, 2014 (edited) His ability is just so... bluh. I could see it on a more nimble ship, but on an X-wing it just seems bad. WOOH HIS ABILITY IS SICK DUDE, I use him naked simply for his ability. He's a fake PS7 TIE defender on the rebel side, for only 26 points, and most opponents dont realize that until I pull off back to back K-turns He gets even better in wave5, when "stay on target" comes out. currently, he works pretty well with the rebel transport astromechs, namely R4D6 and R3A2 Edited September 21, 2014 by Duraham
