[Paintjob] Probably the best B-wing I've ever seen!

Recommended Posts

The Falcon is a better fit to the style, but I still think it's pretty heavy-handed.

It distracts from the details of the subject rather than emphasizing or enhancing.

No thanks.

The engine glow is pretty fantastic though!

Interesting that some of you seem to think the style doesn't fit a space ship. That go me thinking, would his take on the Millenium Falcon be better recieved?

I feel torn on these ships. They are technically great, but seem to overall not really fit the Star Wars universe. These paint jobs on a nurgle chariot/rhino whatever would be great. But somehow they don't look rusty, they look organic and rotted. Which (again) could and would work in some game systems...but not in the grimy industrial SW theme.

I looked at his Falcon before, so doesn't change anything for me personally ;)

It has exactly the same problem as his other stuff. Good technical blending laid down almost randomly, with no attention given to lighting, shadows, scale, or source of the coloring. He's very good at putting paint on the model, but leaves a lot to be desired in why you put the paint there.

I don't even like the engine glow, honestly. Again, good technical work, but no part of a SW ship engine has that strong a fade to black on the edges.

Shrug. As a technical demonstration it's effective. As a piece of art it fails.

Ya sorry I agree with others here. If I were to grade it, it would go something like this

Technical-9

Aesthetic-4

Creativity-5

Overall-6

Like others said the paint scheme just doesn't fit or look right, I also agree the engine glow doesn't right either on the YT.

The style suits the falcon more because it has curved surfaces.  The style of blending is typically used to create lighting effects (either top down or source lighting).  It lends itself well to curved surfaces and significantly less so to flat surfaces (unless they are large panels).  As a result the models looks too busy.

The rust coloration that confuses me the most is on the Z-95. On the top of the fuselage, in front of the cockpit, the rust pattern is going from back to front - that is, darkest at the back and lightest at the front. However, the underside of the fuselage behind the nose cone, has the heaviest discoloration at the front and then lightning as it goes back. That doesn't flow for me. It looks... disjointed.

Nice technique. Questionable design.

I think the big contrast look works really well on foot models but for something as big as a space ship it's too much. I think it's kinda that the Star Wars look is hardwired into out brains too from watching the movies a million times and looking at the books and photos online and the look is as varied at these but very low contrast and subtle. I think these same paint jobs using a soft grey for shading instead of a strong rust brown would look pretty good.
