oneway 1,878 Posted August 25, 2014 He said it himself he does it on purpose, and he "just has" for a long time.. I think it's silly, but I don't comment on it.. I figure leave it alone and it might go away.. whatever.. no worries.. but there are a few who call him out. I believe Spanish is his primary language. 1 z0m4d reacted to this
KCDodger 10,596 Posted August 25, 2014 I wonder if he's mistaken the title of the thread as a friendly greeting or thought perhaps he made it himself.imsorryihadtosaythat
Okapi 1,463 Posted August 25, 2014 I just put him on the ignore list, problem solved. No hate necessary. Aye, that's what I did as well. There are enough people here that I can afford to ignore "greettings" and people who think "ur" is an actual word. And yes, there is a difference between occasional mistakes and deliberate misuse. KCDodger 10,596 Posted August 25, 2014 It's exactly how I got my name. On one hand, one of my greatest, most kind friends is a british man.On the other hand, I used to go to a forum where my older and more naive attitude got me utterly vilified in a primarily British environment. Once, I did something stupid, and in my PM box..."Oi, Captain Lackwit, knock it off."Then I thought about it. There was just somethin' about that name that fit me. I've always known that I'm a somewhat daffy, at times daft individual. I'm not sure I lack wit but it does imply a deficiency in intelligence, but to a clever observer, someone who's aware that they're not the most brilliant individual. So I adopted it and thanked that man- who is an acquaintance of mine and I once sent him 12 bucks to help him in a financial rut. Wasn't much but it was something. He never did say "You're welcome" for the name. 3 Mikael Hasselstein, BenderIsGreat and z0m4d reacted to this
Stelar 7 888 Posted August 25, 2014 Sometimes he contributes, sometimes he doesn't but what other member of this community endures the level of scrutiny? Any? That says volumes about us, I like the greetings, it comes across as an accent to me. A touch of multiculturalism beyond the US, UK and Ausies. We need more greetings. 3 z0m4d, Sir Osis of Liver and ExpatSmuggler reacted to this
stegocent 1,052 Posted August 25, 2014 Greetings is an opener not a closer. It's effectively the same as saying Hi/Hello Cheers is a closer. Like after you make a toast (to good health, as an example) or saying thank you (the plane old closer) Its just grammar, got nothing to do with spelling. Cheers shank you

DreadStar 1,124 Posted August 25, 2014 (edited) If he is spanish, greetings, which would mean "Saludos", may be used as a finisher. Don't be that close minded trying to find something annoying out of thin air. I am from Spain, sometimes, when i have a hard time writing on english, i tend to end my writing with "cheers" on the forums, for the exact reason Zomad described. You just gained +10 empathy points. Okapi 1,463 Posted August 25, 2014 And maybe he just didn't care to appease a bunch of posters who were making fun of him over something so trivial. Of course, that's what people have been pointing out over three pages now. He's not doing it because of language skills or cultural misunderstandings, but out of spite. Hence the blocking.
