2 Phantoms and ... ?

Go for 4 ships...take tie fighters. I tried it with a Shuttle and it failed...but I guess you could make it work. Unfortunately my test game was against a list with 2 turrets.

I tend to run a shuttle with a few upgrades with 2 Phantoms. Won a tournament this week with:

 

Echo

-Vet Instincts

-Advanced Cloak

-Fire Control System

-Recon Specialist

 

Shadow Squad

-Advanced Cloack

-Fire Control System

 

OG Pilot

-2x Tactician

-Fire Control System

 

Even beat a super Falcon w/ Z mini swarm without taking a casualty.

As mentioned it may depend on what two Phantoms you use.  A couple of naked Sigmas and you've still got 50 points to work with.  Use moderately upgrade Whisper and Echo and your choices drop two a pair of Academy Pilots or one other ship.

This is pretty nifty. I actually really like Echo. Not enough people play this pilot.

With the shuttle setup, move both tacticians onto the shuttle so you can double-stress a single ship. Much more effective then 2 stress spread out across 2 ships, they can both just green move the next turn to clear it.

Last 3 points: Yorr is great, but FCS is clutch against Fat Falcons. FCS puts you at 99, and is the safest against PS9 pilots.

Decimator, if you don't mind running imperial x wings.

sigma squadron w spa x2

captain ouicunn or patrol leader + isaard.

if going patrol leader you can go taction or double intelligence agent which can really help the phantoms low ps

assuming you don't mind wave 5

There actually pretty good, its just you have to think of them as not centerpieces. Tbh sigma with spa is extremely good, almost as durable as an xwing, but with a hlc.

not much else imperial atm at 27 points that offers more other than rgp w ptl, and that's even debatable. (turr phenir excluded)

Yeah, kinda, though personally I don't really like the idea of double phantom lists in general as the couple times I played them they got in each others way alot and while they themselves ate the other ships, my other half of the list suffered from it.

so what I would rather do is something beefier (bad green dice hurt every time, not just on phantoms, but nothing sucks more than 2 hits and a crit one shotting it)

so I'd go for more beefcake, and funsies.

I don't think the generic phantoms are competitive.

I thought about buying 4 Phantoms first - but then i bought only 1 (I won the other one ;)

So its Echo and Whisper ... or its only a lone Phantom in the list.

The vanilla phantoms take a different strategy to use correctly.  I find ACD to be a waste on the no named phantoms. Sigmas with a jammer and stygium are pretty good.  You have to play them a little differently.  I play a 3X Sigma stigium, jammer, recon specialist/reel captive list. You don't get to shoot every turn with them but you win by submarine tactics. Hit and run. Be unpredictable.  Three phantoms rips up the falcon fortress if used correctly. 

 

Now since you don't have the third phantom, I'd say Switch the rebel captive to Whisper and put the tacticians on the shuttle.

This list has worked really well for me so far (3-0 with it on Vassal, even against a whisper squad):

It has a lot of firepower but is pretty fragile, bad dice will ruin your day quickly.  Get in there face with the academies and sit back with the Sigmas...gives the opponent a difficult decision of choosing who to target.  You want them to attack the academies.

ion + double stress = counter against everything but a swarm

 

I was looking for a better Phantom build and this caught my eye yesterday.  Ran it twice last night, really liked it.
