New Dark Heresy Designer Diary: Tattered Fates and The Radical's Handbook

Recommended Posts

At least expanded, it seems. Possibly reworked. I know some people have complained about how the psychic power system seems to be a transplant of the magic system of WFRP, so no doubt this news will be greeted fondly.

There's notable differences between 40K psychic and Fantasy's magic system, although the former is clearly built on the later.  Both systems function reasonably well, which of couse means there's room for improvement.  In Fantasy it's a little too hard to get the higher end magical misfires and in 40K it's a little too easy to get perils of the warp, especially for the use of relatively  low powered abilities.

Thinking about the Radical's Handbook begs the question of wheather their'll be a Puritan's Handbook at some point in the future or wheather it's just going to stay the Inquisitors Handbook.

Most of the options and careers in the Inquisitor's Handbook are Puritan.  Sororitas, ecclesiastical careers with faith powers, approved technology, blessed standards,  power stakes, etcetera.  Puritans, by definition, use orthodox gear and technologies.  Now a sourcebook on Puritan thought is another matter. I highly recommend the Thorian Sourcebook from Games Workshop's Specialist Games Inquisitor section.

Is it my imagination or does it sound like Rogue Trader is going to have a different set of psychic rules than Dark Heresy?

Seriously Doubt it. Most likely they just give Astropaths the Soul-Bound Trait on page 332 of Dark Heresy and a variation of the Psychic Supremacy Talent on page 26 of Disciples of the Dark Gods, with the variation that it works no matter how many dice they roll and only on Astropathic powers. They probably also get Discipline Focus (Astropathy) as per Dark Heresy page 114. All available at Psy Rating 1 or whatever the starting Psy Rating is for these blokes.

Least, thats how I would go about it.
