DagobahDave 1,621 Posted August 1, 2014 Dagobah, you can always place the asteroids on empty movement stands so the movement templates fit and keep movement as acurate as possible. That's not a bad suggestion, but still has problems. I'd want to put the base on top of the asteroid, rather than putting the asteroid on the base. The "footprint" of the asteroid should still be asteroid-shaped, and you need to be able to have ships overlap asteroid tokens, so you want the asteroid token to be flat on the table. You'd need to mark off a square area on the asteroid for the placement of the base (like with a piece of sticky-note), and then you've compromised the aesthetics of the asteroid piece. It's not really a simple and elegant way to handle it at that point.
KommanderKeldoth 2,600 Posted August 1, 2014 Take the asteroid tokens and use a white (or whatever color you prefer) paint marker to mark out a square spot for the templates to match up with on either side and a direction arrow designating 'front'. Each player places asteroids as normal (starting who has initiative) asteroids are pre-assigned speeds from 1-5 (with the large asteroid being stationary with 0 movement). Players switch off placement as normal. Each round, asteroids move during the activation phase at Pilot Skill 0 in a straight line according to their given speed. If a ship overlaps an asteroid follow normal rules. If an asteroid movement template overlaps a ship, follow the rules given for flying through an asteroid. When an asteroid goes off of the table edge, the player with imitative places it on any edge of the board facing any direction he wishes. The second asteroid to go off the board is placed by the other player and they switch back and forth after that. I've played with these rules a few times and it really spices up the game! Makes it very difficult to fly in formations and you have to plan moves out several turns in advance (even more so than normal). 2 EmpireErik and DagobahDave reacted to this
