Which $30 set to get?

20 posts in this topic

I have a coupon and some left over gift card for Barnes & Noble and they have a decent selection of X-Wing stuff...thought about getting one of the more expensive ships/sets since all I have now are the regular small fighters. Not sure which one to get...

the Falcon?

Slave 1?

the lambda shuttle?

the Imperial Aces pack?

I have no preference of rebel or imperial at the moment and I have the same amount of ships for each. Of those...which offers the best cards, most coolness, best game piece options?

Thanks!

Chris

If you don't have a falcon, then get falcon. If you have one and even THINK you might want to do double falcon in the current meta get a 2nd. Though i would lean towards 1 falcon + escorts right now.

After that, firespray even if you have one. The shuttle isn't horrible, but the others are more all purpose. The shuttle takes more getting used to, and now that you can get advanced sensors with e-wing, the cards in it aren't a huge deal. Not any more than the others anyway.

Thanks for the replies so far...

I've not played much, but have been slowly collecting since the game started. Have the starter set, all wave 1, the A-Wing, B-Wing, TIE Interceptor, TIE Defender, and Z-95. The local store is talking about starting a league and most people have some of the bigger ships, so figured I had a good opportunity to add one to my collection and didn't know which one people thought was generally a better buy.

Imperial Aces, so you would be able to make a lot of interceptors lists would be my bet, also you have an interceptor as your avatar, that makes it even more obvious!

In this case, I would get the Falcon or the Firespray.

I ended up purchasing two Imperial Aces and two Falcons! So I would say one of those first! I bought IAs for the interceptors and cards! I bought the second Falcon strictly for cards!! So that might be something for you to look into, will you be using the ships or the cards more and which ones fit with your builds.

Good luck and have fun!

My gut just says grab an Aces you can't go wrong. Falcon gives you Luke and Chewie cards which are fun plus Draw Their Fire while Firespray gives you Gunner and Stealth Device.

my advice is to choose one side, add 10-15$ besides the coupon and buy 2 of them...   :D  :D  :D

if you prefer rebels, falcon and any other pack: imp aces have a lot of usefull upgrades (push the limit and opportunist), as well as shuttle (adv sensor)

if you prefer imperial, I would take imp aces and slave.

I'd say thee shuttle but seeing as you don't have the falcon then it's a no-brainer, the falcon for sure.

I love the shuttle but you NEED the engine upgrade that comes with the falcon.

Without the engine the shuttle is to slow but it does come with the Vader crew so you could still run the basic doom shuttle.

Also the shuttle comes with advanced sensors, possibly the single best upgrade for a B-wing.

I'm kindof a Firespray fanboy, so I'd say that (I still want a third Firespray more than I want anything that's not out yet).

You've got two types of answer on here though - you've got people talking about the "meta", who mean "if you want to play in competitions and win, x might help" and you've got people like me who just play for fun, who mean "I like x cos it's fun and/or looks cool".  The advice you pick depends what you want to get out of it I suspect.

I like the Firespray because a) it looks cool, b) it looks cool and c) it's fun to fly because it's got lots of options - a surprisingly nice dial for a big ship, upgrade options, and a rear firing arc.  I particularly like the rear firing arc because it gives you options without taking away the need for any skill in positioning like the Falcon does with it's 360 degree arc.

What would you suggest for me?

I have:

- Tie Interceptor

- Tie Fighter x 5 (one from add-on, 4 from basic set)

- Tie Defender

- Tie Phantom

Imperial Aces of Firespray?

Since you dont have that much experience on the table I'd advise against imp aces. The interceptor is a ship that requires a lot of finesse to fly effectively, you initially might get disappointed by their performance in your hands. The shuttle is also pretty hard to maneuver since it has a terrible maneuver-dial.

On the other hand the Falcon (and to lesser extent the Slave 1) is very accessible to newer players and both come with some awesome and unique upgrade cards.

In this post Phantom meta, get a Falcon and smile.

Four attack dice versus one agility die is nothing to smile about.

Four attack dice vs one agility and 13 health is concerning, but not as much as 3 attack dice shooting twice against 2 defense dice and 4 health.
