Possible new Imperial fighter!?!

40 posts in this topic

I was just looking at different Imperial ships and wonder if the TIE Agressor couldn't be one of the next Imperial fighters as it also fields a gunner and turret! I could see it having a Crew slot accordingly!

What are your thoughts on this ship's potential appearance in X Wing?

Thanks!

Plainsman :)

I've been advocating his inclusion for a long time. The turret only shoot back, so it could work like the Firespray. Definetly keep with the theme of the Empire and would bring something new fighter-wise.

With the inclusion of the VT-49 in wave 5 and the fact that both ship come from Star Wars Galaxies, I think it's highly probable that we will see it sooner than later.

Ugh.

I'm quite fine with the TIEs we have. The nature of the Empire is uniformity and all the various EU TIE models really distract from that.

I'd really hate to have all of the following represented at some point:

Except for the TIE Star Cruiser.

Gotta have that one!

Half of those could be upgrades to existing ships. For example, the TIE Fire Control and Recon could be TIE Fighter titles (former hands out TLs, latter a built-in navigator or something), the same with the Electronic Warfare and Shuttle for the Bomber (denies token spending and trades ordnance for crew). About the only ones I would actually want as ships are the Hunter and Avenger.

Okay, lots of thise TIEs look terrible, but some of them look pretty cool. I sort of agree with the sentiment of not wanting more TIEs, I mean TIE Bomber, TIE Fighter, TIE Interceptors and TIE Advanced (for Vader) is really where my heart is. But I acknowledge that in order for a game to survive it needs new expansions. As long as FFG doesn't release ships that make the non-EU ship no longer playable I won't begrudege them the need to expand.

that picture gets posted all the time, does anyone really have any connection to any of them that aren't made yet besides the scimitar and clawcraft?

Not that I even think those should get made.

The TIE experimentals Mk2, Mk3 and Mk5 are literally upgrades to existing fighters:

  • Experimental Mk2 (TIE Big-gun) is a TIE fighter upgrade giving a turreted primary weapon
  • Experimental Mk3 (TIE Warhead) is a TIE interceptor upgrade giving a shedload of missile slots
  • Experimental Mk5 (TIE Booster) is a TIE fighter upgrade giving a massively overcooked engine - straight greens and boost.

With the TIE Hunter appearing in the next Age of Rebellion missions book, I wouldn't be surprised to see it. It'd work quite nicely with an Imperial Epic release - Escort Carrier and 1-2 TIE Hunters makes for a Storm Commando force.

TIE aggressor? Ewww. Slightly better than that awful Tie Oppressor.

My vote's for the TIE Avenger. Not too unconventional and clearly an upgrade on its predecessor. After that, Assault Gunboat, and then no other reason to touch any of the other TIE designs. At least, none that haven't been redesigned by Fractalsponge in some way.

But is the expandability of this game really infinite? I don't think it is, and I don't want them scraping the bottom of the barrel in trying to find the utter limit of what the market will bear.

In the meantime, there are still viable expansions to be put out there, but I think they should stop with any expansions that start with 'TIE'. I'm grudgingly willing to accept the Phantom and the Defender, given that many of you seem to have some connection with those.  Are there really any more.

...Okay, the TIE Scout, but only if it's not as long as WEG said it needed to be, unless that means it's actually a large-base ship, which I could accept.

But I think they really should be going Huge next.

Problem of the most Tie's shown above is that they are looking all like meanwhile existing Ship's . Till now it was so that with every Wave a new Style of Ships entered the Game. For me Hunter and Avenger would be nice all the rest no.

I also hope that they will later release my sexy Gunboat and the Missile boat :-)

I second this the Tie Hunter was one of my favorite ships from Rogue Squadron 3 (except for that Buick you could get with cheat codes :))  The Escort Carrier would be a nice Huge ship I am unsure of if releasing a brand new small ship with a huge would be a bit unusual and have some balance issues (although the new X-wing pilots, droids and crew with the Rebel ships were a little meta altering too) that said it would also allow for them to release Ion torpedoes with another torpedo capable ship

Yes, because all real world military armored vehicles have a large picture window in the front. I have a tie crawler abomination from the WTC days of random booster packs and Star Wars minis. I keep leaving it lying around hoping by dog will chew it up, but even he won't touch it. I'd like to see the gun boat, but the rest of that ridiculous crap I will not buy.

At this point I think in terms of fighters all the Empire really "needs" (term used VERY loosely) is the TIE Avenger and the Assault Gunboat, maybe the scimitar assault bomber if you are reaching.  Throw in the missile boat if you are really desperate but the avenger and gunboat are the last two reasonably well known ships left, past that you are really pulling from obscurity.

The TIE Aggressor and TIE Electronic Warfare Starfighter would add some interesting options. The Aggressor has a 180 degree rear turret, and the EW is a modified bomber with the jamming gear of a capital ship swapped for it's munitions pod, it could have the Jamming action and maybe the ability to remove target locks.

The TIE boarding craft could be interesting in Epic play.  Use it sort of like a suicide bomber of sorts.
