When will Summer Tournament Kit tourneys be held?

Recommended Posts

Thanks.

What does it mean when a store says that 100% of entry fees will be turned into prize support in the form of store credit?  I know at least two stores that have said that.

If they charge $10 per person and 10 people show up, that means $100 will be given in prize support, divided as they see fit amongst the participants.

Thanks.  Does the cost of the kit get factored into the prize support?

(I think it should, as I can't see why a retailer would run an event at a loss, but I don't know how these tournaments work...)

Game night kits aren't free, so it really does depend on the store. Newer or smaller game shops are going to be happy just getting people in the door, so they can afford to host an event at cost.

Most local game stores I know have charged for events to at least cover the cost of the kit, and then applied most or all of the rest of the money towards store credit.

One store I play at has not hosted as many events, but when they have they have charged no entry fee and have absorbed the cost of the prize kit as well. That is my favorite local store :)

Keep in mind that store credit has a built-in margin, so that's not necessarily operating at a loss. A game night kit based event is effectively a marketing event. Assuming more than a bare minimum player count a store should be able to charge $5-$10 and 'give' it back out in the form of store credit as prize support, and still make a little money even after paying for the game night kit. That's not including any sales generated due to the players being in the store (food/drink/supplies/additional xwing ships). The game night kits are not terribly expensive, and include a lot of goodies. I think they are the best deal going for game stores really, but I just run the random tourney and don't own a store or work for FFG, so I have a very oitsider perspective.
