Why Not Sentinel?

Recommended Posts

I don't know if the Sentinel have cannons to attack, I know that it's only a transport but don't has any to defense, so I think it don't has good playability, and there are a lot of best Imperial ships tan Sentinel, greettings.

It is described with 8 laser cannons and 2 concussion missile launchers in the front, a retractable ion turret just behind the cockpit. Defense wise, it is described as being heavily armored and very maneuverable for its size, which lead to its rampant growth in popularity. It is as long as the new VT-49 in wave 5, to give you an image of scale.

Greetings!

Three four dice attacks a turn? That completely outclasses the VT-49 Decimator, a dedicated warship. That's Tantive territory, maybe even beyond it as the Tantive's got to burn energy.

This is a troop transport, a shuttle. It shouldn't knock the VT-49 and just about every other ship in the game so far out the park they end up a couple of continents away.

I don't mean to be rude but those stats are ridiculously overpowered. I'd expect attack stats like that from a Huge-sized antistarfighter platform like the Lancer or Tartan, not from a landing craft. You say it makes sense "fluff-wise" but your Sentinel stats put a Skipray Blastboat to shame. I think it's because you've tried to base it off Wookiee rather than the rest of the game.

3/0/8/5, forward arc only

Sensor, Crew, Crew, Crew

Lambda-like dial.

...would be more probable,

Yeah, I have to agree that those stats you suggested would require the Sentinel to be incredibly expensive. Not to mention that the structure of the rules doesn't really allow individual ships to have special rules like the extra attacks you mentioned. If a ship is going to break the rules, it either needs to be a pilot skill or an upgrade. I think that would need to look something like this:

----------------

Advanced Targeting System [system Upgrade]

10-12 pts.

Sentinel only.

After you perform an attack, you may spend a target lock on an enemy ship within your firing arc to immediately perform a primary weapon attack on that ship. You cannot perform another attack this round.

----------------

Even at that high a cost, though, I'm not sure if it's a good idea to let a non-Huge ship have two successful attacks in the same turn. Three successful attacks in a turn is probably out of the question for anything at standard scale.

My first thought: It looks too much like the Lambda. We don't need a bunch of variants of ships we currently have.

My second thought: Tie (anything) :X

Although, I am VERY pleased with the Tie ships they have chosen so far. There are a LOT of REALLY BAD, poorly thought out designs out there, and so far FFG has done a great job of avoiding them.

Final thought: I'm pretty happy we have one Albino Space Manatee. I personally wouldn't pick up a bunch of that one, in addition to the other one. Although, I don't vehemently despise the thing (like I would if they decided to make a "Tie Raptor" or something).

I like the Sentinel. Most likely because I had a toy version of it when I was a kid. Its a lot more recognizable as a vehicle of the Empire than the Decimator they added. Well to me anyway. However, I don't know how you could implement it in a way that makes sense. You would have to make it similar to the Shuttle, but different enough to make it unique. It almost has too much firepower. It is armed to the teeth. If you got in front of one, you are probably going to die. I don't know how you could replicate it in this game and not make it OP or not nerf it a ton.

Shuttle with 4 attack, slightly more durability, and a similar dial without a full stop, Make it around 30 points. Don't give it sensors.

It can be done. The Shuttle gets used because it is dirt cheap. If you make the Sentinal an expensive clunky Cannon it'll work better.

More punch than a Decimator on a troop lander?

Sure. The Decimator has a turret.

What could be fun would be a title for the Sentinal that read, "After a primary weapon attack in which you spent a target lock you may(text that allows for firing a missile/torp here.)"

Hell as a Mod that would make Missiles amazing on everything.

Thank you for your feedback!  Much appreciated!

  • I chose the attack value of 4 because it has twice the amount of guns in the front compared to the lambda, so one more die seemed more appropriate.
  • I chose 1 evade because it has the performance of a firespray, and is described as being "able to fly circles around the older lambda variant" in some book (been looking for it but can't find it, think it was in the rouge squadron novels) and having 2 evade like it suggest would of been crazy!
  • I agree with the 8 hull you have there, represents it being tougher and represents it being twice as big as the lambda.
  • I disagree with the 5 shields.  That's how much the falcon has, and the original lambda as well.  It is described as having 2 times the amount of shield projectors, so I added 1 more to the Lambda's to show that it was more heavily shielded.

I would give it a B-wing dial, but with no k-turn.  I would also reduce the missile slots to one, after looking at it again.

(kinda reminds me of haggling :P)

Thank you sir for the feedback,  3-4 hours of driving and having a crazy dog can lead a man to suggest crazy things.  Or something like that.

I agree with the sensor upgrade slot, and I really like your suggestion.
It could lead you to have these combinations:
  • Firing of the Primary Weapon + Primary weapon again
  • Firing of the Missile + Primary Weapon
  • Firing of the Ion Turret + Primary Weapon (To be fair, why would you give it a blaster turret? Why give anything a blaster turret?)

Or, have it be a modification card, and that would prevent people from putting engine upgrades on this thing.

Then have the sensor slot be with a fire control system.

This thing is not your normal troop lander, like a lambda. The more I read about it, the more similarities I find it to another troop lander, the Space Marine Thunderhawk.  Minus the Battle Cannon on the top, of course.

The more I think about this, the more I understand why it hasn't been implemented.  There are many things to balance around in this game,

  • Attack: This thing is loaded to the teeth with guns, guns, and more guns.
  • Evade: It has 70MGLT's and 2,400G's of engine power, and that is starfighter equivalent.  Twice that of the Lambda and the stock YT-1300.  It must be a fuel hog, however.
  • Hull: Having 25% more armor and being twice the size of the Lambda means that this thing is sturdy, having low hull as balance wouldn't make sense.
  • Shields:  4-120SBD rated shield projectors (the B-wing only has one 120SBD projector, lambda has 2 100SBD's) that means it has, at least, 1 greater shield rating than the lambda.
  • Dial:  With 70MGLT's and 2,400G's of acceleration, it has a better dial than the lambda (50MGLT's and 1,200G's) and HWK, maybe Y-wing or B-wing equivalents (no K-turn though)
  • Points:  This thing must be ungodly expensive.  That being said, if I were a pilot in the star wars universe, I would choose to be a Sentinel Pilot, I can see why the imperials gave one to ever single outpost they had across the galaxy.

Why the Outrider? Significantly different appearance to the Millenium Falcon whereas the Sentinel is a stretch Lambda, and they've made it play significantly differently to the Falcon: the Outrider isn't Falcon Lite.

No it's a falcon ripoff, and it does not look much different at all. It is a falcon lite.

Why the Decimator instead of the Sentinel in Wave 5? It's a gunship wave. The Sentinel's a support craft, not a gunship.

I can see them adding the Sentinel if they can make it something other than a Stretch Lambda.

Can't say I am a big fan of the landing craft. Not sure where it fits between the lambda and the decimator. I also think it's agility should be 1 or less. I think the lambda should outmaneuver it, not the other way around, and a ywing and bwing certainly should. I don't mind the looks, though it feels like a lambda ripoff in the same way that the outrider feels like a shuttle ripoff to me. One counter to my own argument. Yes it's a landing craft, but the GR 75 is a transport, handles like a pig, and has no agility, and it's still awesome.

Here is a Side By Side, with about maybe 5% error on scale size.
Shuttle_Side_By_Side_zpsb1eeeed0.jpg

Interesting thing of note, the Lambdas wings are quite large compared to the Sentinels.

The Lambda was introduced in 19 BBY, where it says the Sentinel was made a few years before the Battle of Yavin, so I'd guess 3-4 years BBY.

Looks too much like a Lambda

I think it looks quite different to the Lambda, that its not a lambda knock off.  Now for fun, here are some knockoffs:

Maybe its just me, but these are far uglier than the Sleek Sentinel

I like most of the ships sharing the Lambda's design, from the Assault Gunboat to the Sentinel. Here's  another one, the YE-4 Gunship. I wish we had gotten this instead of the Decimator - I want to like the VT-49 but somehow it doesn't appeal to me :-(

 Ye4_gunship.jpg

It would be VERY nice to see that as the Empire's GR-75 equivalent.

Much the same as it would be nice to see maybe a sentinel and YT-2000 as the additional 2 ships in Wave 5.

They could even keep similar stats on all of them, just think of them as different takes on the same flavor.

The Lambda, Sentinel, and Ye-4 could all follow a similar appearance theme, much like all the TIE variants do, as well as the Corellian YT series.

That's just my opinion. I could be wrong.
