1 dead Biggs and 1 attacker to go.

Recommended Posts

So a fun situation happened last night at the weekly x-wing meet. I was playing my wedge, biggs, and 2 blue squadrons against a wedge, ibtasam, ten numb. my wedge had swarm tactics as did his entire team. We went through the rounds and finally got into firing range of each other I put Biggs at PS 9 with swarm and my opponent piggybacked wedge's PS 9 to the team. He had initiative so his team fired first. His wedge knock out biggs' shields a then his Ten finished the job. Then it came to his ibtasam and he looked at me, 'biggs is dead, do I still have to shoot him?' And the game came to a roaring screeching halt. How should this have played out? I played it that because of the simultaneous attack rule and his PS being equal to the others he was still on the board and therefore his ability was still active until he fired regardless of his hull damage exceeding his hull. Thank you in advance for your time.

You played it exactly correctly.  A ship stays on the board, with all of its abilities in play, until it has a chance to fire (obviously we are talking about simultaneous fire, not a ship getting clobbered by opponents with a higher PS).  If Biggs had still been at PS 5, he would have disappeared when Ten fired and Ibtisam would have been free to pick another target, but your Swarm Tactics changed all that.

If you are using Howlrunner with Swarm Tactics and she gets blasted by a PS 8 ship, you want to make sure and fire all of your other PS 8 ships before you fire with Howlrunner.  She can provide rerolls to all of them if she is last, but the moment you fire with her she is gone no matter how many ships you have left at PS 8.

Yeah, the look on his face was pretty priceless but the other TO and I sat down and looked over the rules and that's the same way we both interpreted the situation. Just one of those things we've hadn't run into up to this point, thanks again.
