Ship Component Upgrade Question

Okay so I've come here to reaffirm something and to ask a question about a specific ship component and upgrades. The reaffirming: You can't make a component take up 0 space. In other words a component that at common quality takes up 1 space, can't be reduced down to 0 with an upgrade to GQ. Ditto for power.

 

Now the question. A GQ upgrade to a component can make it use 1 less power. How does that effect the Field Bracing Component? Since the Field Bracing gives you +2 hull per point of power up to 3 power. If you upgrade it does it essentially become +3 hull per point of power?

I assume you refer to the quality system in BFK?

Then yes, it is explicitly stated that a component cannot have power or space requirements reduced from 1 (to 0).

I've never really thought about it, as I generally consider it a slightly inferior component I'm afraid.

Thanks, and I'd have armor if I could. But the ships I'm working on explicitly state no more armor so more hull is the best I can do. (A pair of Repulsive GCs)

I would go with yes. Field bracings aren't very good anyway.

Essentially yes, technically I'd say it gives 2 hull points for 0 power with option for investing another 2 power for another 2x2=4 hull points.

I go with increasing the hull points instead of decreasing the power, so.

 

GC @ 1 power = 3 hull

GC @ 2 power = 5 hull

GC @ 3 power = 7 hull

BC @ 1 power = 4 hull

BC @ 2 power = 6 hull

BC @ 3 power = 8 hull
