XAQT78 44 Posted May 25, 2014 I was wondering how does the Assault Missle secondary effect work? Is it just an unmodified "hit" which apply to shields then to hull. If it makes a "hit" can you modify with an ability from hit to crit? Any thoughts?
Forgottenlore 9,838 Posted May 25, 2014 (edited) In the game a "hit" is defined in the rulebook (on pare 12, I think, under the "compare results" section), as having uncancelled explosion symbols after the defender's defense roll. Although absolutely everyone, including the FFG game designers, refer to the explosion symbols as 'hit's and 'crit's, the rulebook never does. Anytime the rules of the game refer to a 'hit' it means very specifically, having uncancelled explosion symbols, either filled explosions or hollow explosions. There in fact are situations in the game (or soon will be) where it is possible to be 'hit' but take no damage, such as Lt. Blount or having the damage gets pulled away by Draw Their Fire, or to take damage but not be hit, such as overlapping obstacles, mines and bombs, or being the one who takes the hit from draw their fire. dvorm 1,058 Posted May 25, 2014 I was wondering how does the Assault Missle secondary effect work? Is it just an unmodified "hit" which apply to shields then to hull. It is not a hit. The ships suffer damage. Which means one shield or a face-down damage card. If it makes a "hit" can you modify with an ability from hit to crit? There is no way for the assault missile secondary effect to inflict a face-up damage card. 1 Far Wanderer reacted to this

Saboteur is an Action, and therefore happens at an entirely different time than Assault Missiles. The Saboteur requires their victim to already have a face-down damage card to do anything, but doesn't care when or how their victim received that damage card. So, yes. The splash damage from assault missiles could theoretically be saboteured into a face-up damage-card. So too could the damage from running over an Asteroid. The point here is that the splash-damage from an Assault Missile is non-hit guaranteed damage, like from the after-effects of an Ion Cannon, or from being too close to a Seismic Charge. InterceptorMad 2,007 Posted May 25, 2014 Yeah even Rexler cant flip them, as he can only flip cards dealt to the defender, so wont include the splash damage cards.

No way to deal a face-up card. Once the ship has the cards other things, like Saboteur, could flip it face-up.
