I'm about to play an Explorator in a fresh game and I have the forbidden lore adeptus mechanics skill, but other than AI is bad, I don't know of any heretech.

What bad tech mojo is there out there to explore? And possibly dabble in =D

Tampering with genetics tends to be a slippery slope of nopenopenope, cloning tends to go hilariously wrong so that's largely proscribed, transgenic grafting is a MAJOR no-no... Meme-viruses are prohibited as well, as I recall.

 

I'd suggest trying to get hold of a copy of Disciples of the Dark Gods, there's a section in there for **** The Mechanicus Should Not Do.

Looks like everyone's already covered the stuff that's generally a problem as far as the Strictures of the machine cult so I'll just toss you two important tips for exploring the expanse itself as it relates to your interests. The first is that the best archeotech is generally in the heathen stars as the region was colonized during the dark age of technology and most of it's worlds are still pretty unmolested by Imperial influences although it's a pretty infamous place for regressed societies with dark secrets. You're probably fine and likely to find neat stuff though just so long as you stay clear of the Rifts of Hecaton which are a very bad place for a large number of reasons.

Dont forget about implanting stuff like:

- psychiclay charged xenos artefacts such as Eldar Spirit Stones - unleash psychic powers upon your foes

- halo devices - immortality, at the price of humanity yours for the taking

- daemon flesh - daemon skin is superior to human, so why not?

 

Also - necrons have fascinating technology - you should seriously get some.

It doesn't have to be too cray-cray, as the kids say. Researching the anti-gravitic plates used on Land Speeders is proscribed. I have a suspicion it uses tiny demons to make it fly, but our Explorator won't say anything further.

That actually poses an interesting question to me. When it comes to daemon skin, can it actually be grafted onto humans? Because daemons are pulled back into the warp upon "dying", and never (rarely) truly die.

Daemon "Skin" isn't a real thing...daemons are pretty much just congealed thought given physical form through their willpower.  What you would need is to share your body with a daemon (Great Idea!) and make a deal with it that in exchange for a safe harbor they get to remake certain parts of your body to make you hardier.

The Black Crusade demo character had a rogue Mechanicus acolyte who had "Warp-Spawned Flesh" that mechanically gave him an increase to his Toughness bonus. I don't know if there were official rules released for it, but it should clearly be possible. Just make a super-safe deal with the Chaos-aligned forces of the Dark Mechanicum and I'm sure everything will turn out fine.

Well, there were some instances where parts of defeated deamon stayed/were kept in the material universe. Like Sanguinus playing around with bloodthirsters head or some items containing deamons blood. They are special snow flakes for sure, but hey - this is RT.

Maybe some tatooos of pentagrammatic wards to keep it in place. Partial possesion? Some dark rituals.

This probably properly belongs in Black Crusade now, but...

 

Binding a daemon into your skin is going to make you a daemonhost unless you undergo some very, very invasive surgery- flense the skin off, inscribe pentagrammatic wards onto the muscle, inlaid such that you don't lose flexibility but they won't heal, replace the skin, apply pentagrammatic wards to the skin (possibly as part of the flensing procedure to begin with)- then summoning the daemon into the skin.  Even that might not work, and you'd better pick a lesser daemon because you just can't get many layers of binding in there.

 

A much safer (LOL) method of doing this would be to turn a bodyglove into a daemonic vessel.  Then wear it, and watch as it bonds to your skin forever more as barbs sink into your flesh and you scream in pain and rage and hate and the glorious immolation of your soul.

 

Synskin'd work too.

 

Edit: as a techpriest, of greater interest would be warp-fueled power armour, the ability to manufacture a daemon-weapon heavy-bolters or other high-RoF weapons, gauss technology and the mysterious ability that the Necrons display that allows them to resist or block out the warp (pylons what?), and genehancing ogryns with Xenos grafts.  Or possibly mind-controlling a Carnifex.
