Galadriel decks

18 posts in this topic

Really excited about Galadriel, like everyone else... those of you who plan to play her, how will you go about it?

My by far most used hero lineup is Elrond, Loragorn and Spirit Glorfindel. I've considered switching Loragorn for Galadriel now and use both Vilya and Nenya, and either use more spirit cards or throw in a few more Song of Wisdom. Master of the Forge will definitely help to get the rings and songs.

What will your lineup look like, Galadriel included?

my thoughts exactly. Erlond, loragorn and spiritfindel are my favourite lineup too. Galadriel should fit quite well in for loragorn or, in less enemy heavy encounter decks, even maybe for spiritfindel. Still, I have not built any such deck yet and this is only speculation. So I am also curious if anyone tried Galadriel actually?

I tried Elrond, Galadriel and "Spirfindel" today. Ran 3 copies of Nenya in the deck.

Passage through Mirkwood:

Number of rounds: 9

Final threat: 23 (starting threat 27)

She is good. Very good.

I forgot about the ally ability several times but it definitely made a difference in quests. Exhausted the Stargazer to put Gildor on top, put him into play for nothing with Elrond and then quested and defended with him thanks to Galadriel. Put Light of Valinor on Glorfindel and added Galadriel's willpower to his when it was needed. Fantastic team. It's an easy scenario, of course; might try a more difficult one tonight. It's not a battle deck by any means, but the synergy and sheer fun more than makes up for the lack of combat options. Glorfindel and some Mirkwood Runners handled most of the fighting.

The only problem I noticed in the opening rounds was getting Nenya as quickly as possible. I did not adapt my deck to suit 2 spirit/1 lore instead of 2 lore/1 spirit. Elrond can summon spirit allies, though, so I saved up Galadriel's resources and could play quite a lot of Lore cards once I found Nenya.

Really looking forward to using Galadriel more.

No - I don't think I've ever used Word of Command. Found both Vilya and Nenya pretty quickly, but part of your success sure depends on that. I run 3 copies of Master of the Forge and Imladris Stargazer for this reason.

I have tried Celeborn, Galadriel, Bifur. Of course the latter is not a very good theme choice but he brings quite a bit to the mix, 2 willpower, low threat and the very useful shift of resources, since they are most needed with Lore. Sneak Attack + Word of Command is a killer combo here, I usually bring another Sneak Attack with it, so for 2 Leadership and 1 Lore resources I can get Gandalf to quest, fight and trigger his response twice in a round: it hardly gets more powerful than that.

Elrond could be used instead of Bifur but the deck will not benefit at all, I feel. Even the ally-paying ability is wasted there because you hardly be purchasing Leadership or Spirit allies with him. And the threat would be too high.

Just tried into the pit with my last lineup. Final threat: 37, number of rounds: 17. Watchful Eyes deterred me from using Galadriel's threat ability until I found Unexpected Courage, and I forgot about discarding enemies at stage 2 and saw quite a battle - but it worked! Gildor was the main defender. Elrond and Galadriel are busy with their rings.

I can't wait for some elf-themed Spirit cards to hit the shelves. I don't really want Galadriel and Glorfindel in charge of a Rohan army.

I plan to play Galadriel tomorrow in a “all spirit”, “all girls” deck in a 3 players black riders campaign.

This should be composed of Caldara/Eowyn/Galadriel

In order to escort the ladies, no less than Beregond, Glorfindel, Beorn on one side and Hirluin, Elrond, Theodred on the other side.

Below is the Silvan Galadriel, Celeborn, Grima deck I have been testing. The deck list includes the cards I am using for proxies, although many of the stats for the allies and heroes are not a perfect match. Overall it's a pretty fun deck if you want to get a taste of what silvan strategies are like. The enter and exit play mechanic is really key to making a silvan deck work with Celeborn. Being able to play a low cost silvan ally from your hand a few times is way better having the ally remain in play. So events that return allies to your hand work really nice in the deck, also with Galadriel the allies will not exhaust to quest when they return. Silvan Refugee is an amazing card for triggering all these events and is a superstar in the deck.

With this deck, I could easily quest for 8 wp each round and have no allies or heroes exhausted, so when combat came everyone was ready. i think Grima really helps jump start the deck, especially if keys are attached to Galadriel early on along with Nenya.

I think Silvan is going to have problems with dealing lots of damage to an enemy, unless tactics and Legolas is accessible. Stats on silvan allies when in play after the first round are not to impressive. Also, chump blocking is not the best way to handle defending either since your allies are valuable and you need to keep them alive to get the bounce effects to work, so dealing with 6+ attack enemies regularly will be a problem. Have not tried battle and siege quests, but I suspect this may be a difficult for the trait too.

Generally, I'm super stoked on how silvan trait and these 2 new heroes are working.

Deck Galadriel's Test

Hero (3)

Eowyn (Core) x1 Galadriel

Gríma (VOI) x1

Prince Imrahil (AJtR) x1 Celeborn

Ally (20)

Guard of the Citadel (Core) x3 Naith Guide

Haldir of Lorien (AJtR) x2

Henamarth Riversong (Core) x1

Lorien Guide (Core) x3

Mirkwood Runner (RtM) x3

Silvan Refugee (TDF) x3

Silvan Tracker (TDM) x3

Silverlode Archer (Core) x2 Orophin, not sure of ability, can remain archer too.

Attachment (15)

A Burning Brand (CatC) x2 might try out Silver Lamp in place seems like it could be nice fit for Galadriel.

Keys of Orthanc (VOI) x3

Light of Valinor (FoS) x2

Palantir (AoO) x3 Nenya

Ranger Spikes (HON) x3

Unexpected Courage (Core) x2

Event (15)

Children of the Sea (TBoG) x3

Daeron's Runes (FoS) x3

Elrond's Counsel (TWitW) x3

Rumour from the Earth (RtM) x3 The Tree People

Late Adventurer (OHaUH) x3 Island Amid Peril

Edit: Silver lamp is really great card with Galadriel. With multiple enimies engaged a single burning brand might not target an enemy with a debilitating shadow. With silver lamp, it's easy to see how to distrbute the damage, Silvan trackers can clean it up at the end of the round, i think SL works real nice with since her I usually have her ready until after combat and tend to draw card and reduce threat then even with Nenya. I favor card draw over the extra WP unless I'm in a pinch.

I thought Silver Lamp would be a hit, but so far I put it to little use. Perhaps with the Hobbits and Small Target...

Galadriel is not a bad target, but you would have to neglect her willpower ability (with Nenya) and there card-draw/threat-reduction through combat as well (though I also try to avoid willpower-boost in favour of the action whenever possible). I believe a natural target for Silver Lamp is Glorfindel on Light of Valinor.

ps: It has a great room for improvement: Leadership Silvan returning event, Lore and Spirit Silvan ally, hopefully hero Haldir as well.

Getting UC on her avoids this problem.

Silver lamp won me To catch an Orc last night. Things took a turn for the worst and I had 5 enemies engaged including Mugash, I had to capture him again and put 1 more progress on the quest next round. Seeing all 5 shadows allowed me to plan for each attack. If I blindly went through the treacheries It would have been game over, so it definitely has a place. I too also disregarded it, but I think its going to be a nice fit for Galadriel and silvan decks, which at this point don't have a super defender.

Your deck looks tight.

One thing I really like about Grima, is that any 2 cost card of any sphere can be played first round. I was able to play Naith Guide and return her to my hand with events for 3 rounds in a row. With Celeborn just producing resources on his own I have to patiently wait a round to gather the resources. Of corse there are ways around this, but I'm finding Grima and Keys of Orthanc to be one of the best early game jump starts out their right now, at least for Tri-sphere

The sylvan deck is looking strong and interesting, however, I fear that the build will be a no brain, resulting everyone having the same deck. Synergies are so obvious, and so impacting that you cannot miss them.

I will try to keep you inform of my "ladies party" tonight (I just intergated Nenya and Galadriel as proxy in my deck).

Nice play yesterday :

Galadriel went through with the complete Girls team (they just wanna have fun).

The first turn was a bit harsh as we had 3 Nazguls attacking the outland player during the first quest phase and then again during combat.

Thanks to cram on Elrond, Beorn, Beregond, mister underhill and some chump blocks we manage our way out of this tricky start.

The ladies were really struggling when engaged with Nazgul (blocking was ok, but no way to damage them at early stage of the game).

At one point, I had one Nazgul performing 3 attacks in a row due to bad luck on shadow cards L. Beorn sacrificed himself to save the Ladies.

During the game, Beorn died twice and Caldara three times, but thanks to Landroval (once) and Fortune or Fate (4x) we finished the game with all heros fresh.

The end also was difficult, as Galadriel was requested to maintain the Beorn, Glorfindel, Beregond player at 45 threat level waiting for the location to stop appearing during questing to be able to achieve last quest.

Globally, great fun (more than 2 hours), Galadriel is nice but far from over-powerful (probably optimal used with Grima and Celeborn).

Rule points :

1/ At one point, I had the condition on Caldara (which stated that she has to be discarded if I fail a hide test). Then, I faced an encounter card that request to perform a hide test.

Do I have a window of actions before resolution of the hide test to be able to sacrifice Caldara to her action before she gets to be discarded by the condition forced effect ?

My partners were sure that I had the window of actions, and that I could sacrifice her to bring back allies before she gets to be discarded.

2/ Frodo :

What is legal target for his effect ? Does a enemy or a location with an “effect” can be cancelled and reshuffled in the encounter deck by Frodo and his ring ?

1/ from the rulebook

Player Actions During Hide Tests

Hide tests interrupt the regular turn sequence and create

a new action window. After the total $ of the discarded

cards has been determined, players are allowed to take

actions. Once the Hide test is resolved, play continues as

normal and player actions are restricted to regular action

windows.

So you don't have an action window before the hide test

2/ any cards is legal, even burden cards. Remember it cancel everything, even doom or surge or hide.

To me it looks like you do have an action window after the threat cards are revealed but before the test is resolved. You could, say, play halfling determination or use core faramirs ability, so why not caldara?
