Dbrowne1974 0 Posted May 6, 2014 In a few weeks I'll be introducing a Force-Sensitive character to the group. Now with the Force dice, do you roll just the Force die, or do you roll it once you get your dice pool set up and with that dice pool???
Kshatriya 1,199 Posted May 6, 2014 The short answer is: it depends on what you're rolling. Some Force Talents/Powers only roll your FR, which at 1, is going to be a pretty crappy roll (and why imo the best use of FR 1 is committed to Sense). Some Force Talents/Powers allow you to add your FR (or part of it) to an existing roll (like Deception for Influence/Overwhelm Emotions), with light and dark side pips having different effects. 3 Aservan, Col. Lathrop 838 Posted May 6, 2014 (edited) For something that's specifically a Force Power to use and not enhance, you roll the dice first, then you decide how to use them. So you don't need to worry about having to increase the difficulty of a Force Move check to try and auto-fire, only to roll both the skill check and the force dice and see you don't have enough pips to even activate a magnitude upgrade. But you still need to say which power first. So, for example, you can't roll the dice intending to do Force Move, realize you don't have everything yo need, then go and use the pips on Enhance to Force Jump out of there. So basically, in order: 1. Spend Action to use a Force Power 2. Pick the Power 3. Force Dice Roll (optionally Activate/End Action after) 4. Pick Upgrades (optionally Activate/End Action after) 5. Do a Skill Check 6. Activate/End Action For other powers, they'll typically say when you have to combine the skill check and the force check into one; and these will pretty much lock you into using a specific upgrade. Control upgrades of Influence for example, you can't say you're doing an Influence power, then see your force dice, then pick the Control upgrade you want. You have to pick one and roll it at the same time as the skill check, THEN you can choose how to spend your force pips on the base control upgrade and other upgrades. For those powers that require more than just rolling Force dice (such as Move to attack with an object or Influence to affect thoughts), the Force user would roll their Discipline skill at the established difficulty along with the appropriate number of Force dice, which is the user's Force Rating less any Ongoing Effects they've got active. For the Enhance power (Age of Rebellion), you'd add your Force die/dice when making the relevant skill check, again rolling them all at the same time.
