What's the greatest prize or treasure you've taken the Expanse so far?

 

Ours would be the Astra Navigator, an experimental warp ship that carried a miniature version of the Astronomicon. After a long adventure we finally got it back to Port Wander, where the Imperium eventually confiscated it (but we did manage to get a new escort ship and get our two ships completely refurbished, so it wasn't a complete loss).

 

What awesome loot have you brought back?

Well dang.  As a GM, I have handed out various illustrious/legendary rewards, but I've never "claimed" any for my own.

 

How disappointing.  I must now create an NPC for my next group, who will be searching the expense for the "greatest prize" I can think of, at that moment in time.  :)

So far the greatest prize we have seized has been an eldar webway gate that is large enough to allow the passage of a craftworld.  They eldar know we have it and are oddly OK with it...which can't be a good sign.  But other than that we managed to seize a cruiser from a pirate lord.  It required infiltration of the ship, the freeing of political prisoners from multiple systems simultaneously, the disabling of a complicated network of Atomics that were placed through the ship and tied to the Pirate Captains life signs, and our tech priest essentially doing a battle of the minds with the chief enginseer of the ship across the computer network to gain access to critical areas.  He had almost 25 ships in his fleet and we had to dismantle it through it a network of turncoats (hence the freeing of prisoners), favors, laying traps for hunting parties, and some shenanigans with the Eldar.  By the time we were done with the final climactic battle, four of his smaller ships got away.  The rest either abandoned him and set out for other parts of space, or joined us willingly or otherwise.  It was the focus of the First Act of our rogue trader campaign and it was one of the most satisfying moments I have ever had in roleplaying when the captain ran him through with his blade and all he could say was "What?!?  You stabbed me?!?  I can't believe you stabbed me!"  Then the lord captain delivering a perfect one liner before grabbing his face with his dark eldar Agonizer...

 

EDIT:  The rest of the crew handled all the away mission nonsense.  My Navis Scion (Derian Maldoran of the Magisterial House Maldoran) Commanded the entire allied fleet by himself on the bridge while everyone else gallivanted around killing people...

Again, GM, rather than player, but the greatest prize my players have taken (in the current campaign, at least) was a fully stocked (but wholly uncrewed and de-pressurised) Siege Perilous-class grand cruiser (based on a Repulsive hull, with torps, bombardment cannon and lots of launch bays). Unfortunately for them, it's still listed as "Overdue" by the Imperal Navy, rather than "Lost", or even "Missing, Presumed Lost". And they don't have any legal right to claim her (no Warrant, Charter or Letter of Marque). They do have a limited Free Charter for another ship they own, which they bought from an impound sale: it's an Inquisitorial sloop that the =][= is going to want back as soon as they realise they lost it... especially since it still carries valid Inquisitorial codes and overrides.

That is the Rogue Trader equivalent of something that happened in my DnD campaign and almost drove us mad.  While searching the underdark, months away from civilization.  We ran across a hidden temple with a large room made entirely of Gold.  One solid piece of gold that was the ceiling, walls, and floor.  My poor dwarf just about lost his mind trying to come up with ways to deal with this.  He ended up using a pickax to try and desperately break some off, but it did nothing as I was just smacking solid metal and not rocks.  In the end we had to just mark it on the map and walk away...being months away from civilization and in the underdark there was just no conceivable way to organize workers to salvage it or anything.  We tried doing some things with portals and the like, but we were never really even able to scratch the surface of how much wealth was in that room.  It almost broke our party...

similar to the above but in black crusade, basically they had just finished sacking a deathwatch station and found it's armory. inside where all sorts of relics ( I just opened the relic section of honor the chapter up) The catch was that before anyone could open the book up I set a 2 min timer and said that they could only grab one item(and only one of each was in the vault) that if they where not out of the vault in time the doors would seal and the vault would self-destruct perma-killing there character...then said go!

The ensuing  madness was hilarious to watch as every one was trying to get ahold of the book to see what was in there before time ran out with 5 people. It was like cutthroat kitchen but with knives and plasma shots. :D

The Light of Terra.  Having accidentally killed the lord Captain, mistaking him for another Halo device wearing madman, they decided that the Dread Pearl might be nice, but a Battleship was much nicer.  and Rather than fight all those savage primitives in it, they just depressurized the ship, then let four regiments of house troops in void carapace loose inside to mop up.

We are not far into the game but we managed to grab a Manufactorum, very ancient. It basically produces superior Leman Russ Tanks and atomics-enriched ammunition for them.

 

We brought it into a secure stasis vault in footfall until we find a place to establish it. I am not sure if we should install it in the ship, as we imagined it quite big, but it would definitly add to our ground combat capabilities.

There is a component that does what you say, i forget which book off the top of my head, but bear in mind even a Space 1 Power 1 component is going to be anywhere from the size of a house to the size of an apartment block.

There is a component for a manufactorum.  But I think it's a larger component, and all it normally does in game terms I believe is allow a bonus for macrocannons.  But if you want to use it to turn rocks into replicators that's on you guys!

A Munitorium?

It's your ship's "arms locker" and a good place to store guns, ammo, and tanks. I'm not sure it can manufacture new tanks though, nor would you want to instead of simply carrying an armoured regiment. But hey, a war factory-ship is a neat idea.

The component is listed in BFK.  And it does produce "items," though the GM is the final arbitrator on what can/can't be produced.

 

 Munitorium

Found in the core RT book.  Adds bonus damage of +1 to Macrocannons.  It does store "ammo," like Torpedoes, Nova Cannon shells, etc.

Yeah, its basically a bigger Manufactorum, only able to produce one specific kind of good and the space and power is the manufactorum's * 4.

So, nothing i would want on our ship at the moment.

Interestingly enough, the Manufactorums on Ramilies class starforts can produce Baneblades. 

 

That's not a 'small, minor' item, though the Starfort is about four times the size of a Cruiser.

There was this battle involving Jeremiah Blitz, Djanko, Fel, Sun Lee, Bastille, Gerrit and the players where the final numbers were:

  • Over 600k dead;
  • 100k+ Megatons of Debris;
  • A new permanent warp rift anomaly orbiting Quppa-psi-12;
  • 14h of constant warfare, from the opening lance savo by Sun Lee's flagship, until Djanko's surrender after his temporary ally, Bastille, had his warp drive detonated into a warp rift by a well placed lance strike;

28 Strategic turns - it was like 5h of real game time.

At the end, the group was like "HOLY SHET, WE DID IT" (they had a frigate with like 2 pts of hull integrity left and a crippled "wolf-pack" raider).

The conquest of the Light of Terra

 

After that space battle above, the group got to find the Light of Terra... I as GM converted the Light of Terra to an invasion Repulsive-class Grand Cruiser with SP100+ and considered it "repairable".

The PCs managed to get it. And no, I wasn't "good to them".

 

After a 7 days (in-game time) pitched battle with the Death Guard and the Lost & Damned - a Chaos Cruiser had caught their trail into the Light of Terra's system - they won by:

 - Uniting the warring tribes of the Terra (including the Pale Sons);

 - Killing Roth and having the awakened (read HERETICAL) God-Emperor-worshiping-MAIN-COGITATOR take over (long history, they could not bear to kill it once they found out who was the mysterious voice in the vox casters helping them A LOT and yelling bad things at Roth everytime he screwed them);

 - Finding a light-armored regiment in a locked cargo hold;

 - Closing a demon-summoned portal on the Warp engine compartment and stopping the flow of enemy troops;

 - Killing a Great Unclean One (by throwing everything they had at it, after repairing and activating the ship's geller fields);

 - Holding even a large force of attack craft/dropships from reaching the Terra by using a couple of salvaged attack craft (from the Terra) to ambush the enemy in an asteroid field that was holding the Chaos cruiser back, for 5 days (then the cruiser itself was able to get through).

 - When the cruiser arrived, the had to throw their own frigate at the cruiser on ramming speed while overcharging the plasma drive to explode on impact.

 

When the combat ended, the Terra was considered "Crippled" and had a crew of 12k (they couldn't evacuate everyone before they had to throw their own ship at the enemy) and had only vital systems working ("working"). 1 PC died and the Rogue Trader was put in an Stasis chamber after contracting Nurgle's Rot while leading the assault on the Great Unclean One.

(does Traejun still use this forum? he was the VM leading the small craft guerrilla tactics in the asteroid fields)

That sounds like an awesome battle actually!  So are they going to be able to try to salvage the hulk of the shattered Chaos cruiser that came to mess with them as well?  That sounds to me like a lesser endeavor itself!

They salvaged the debris as much as they could but as their plasma drive detonated while ramming the enemy (and not just "close" to it), there wasn't much more they could do.

Ground: A set of 21 Knight Titans. We had found an underhive underneath the main colony and found a battered STC that we managed to salvage a APC design off of. We went to the Admech, whom we were with decent terms with, and were expecting to bargain for help setting up a colony down the road. Instead we left with Peer Admech and 21 Knight Titans.

 

Space: A Repulsive Grandcruiser. We helped out a Navy patrol of 1 Cruiser and 3 Swords by adding two LCs and a Sword to it. And then engage 21 pirate ships over 2 back to back battles. When the dust settled, 2 of the Navy Swords were hulked and our Sword was badly damaged. However, the Navy had scored 5 kills. We scored 5 kills. We also managed to capture 11 ships, 4 of which were Cruisers. We traded the lot for a Repulsive.

 

Mass: A blessed colony system. The system we set up in has 3 planets that are habitable, 2 of which had Archeotech on them which drowned us in Archeotech everything. And the Sword Frigate we own just drifted into system one day. And it had an STC fragment on it.
