Newb Question about viruses

Recommended Posts

First, I wanna apologize for asking such a newbie question.

Secondly, I wanna apologize again for asking such a newbie question. I hate the snarky replies that I get for asking dumb questions, but I really tried to figure out the answer here and couldn't. I read through the rulebook multiple times and couldn't figure out the answer.

Where do virus cards go in the the play area? As in, physically, where do I put the card? If I'm the runner and I'm playing datasucker on one of the corporation's remote servers, do I physically place the card under that remote server, or do I place it in the row where his ice is, or do I put it in my own program row? If I put it in my rig (in the program row) how do I know which of his ice servers the virus is being hosted on?

Sorry again, thanks for the help.

We all have to start somewhere, and asking questions is a good way to learn.

Not all virus cards are hosted. Generally, unless they say they are to be hosted, they should be installed as you would other programs.

In this case Datasucker is an installed virus that sits along normal programs in your rig. Whenever you make a successful run on a central server it gains a token.

An example of a hosted virus is Parasite which you do install on a specific target (in this case, a rezzed piece of ice). It still counts towards your memory limit, but isn't in your rig.

I personally had a lot of fun keeping my Caissa programs in my rig and using actual chess pieces on their respective ice.

That's quite a good idea! I may have to take some chess pieces and paint them red for this exact purpose :D

Been meaning to do the same myself; just not got around to picking up a cheap chess set to sabotage yet :P
