Looking for a new Case for transporting ships

Recommended Posts

right now I am using an old back pack with 3 tackle boxes in it and some other smaller boxes for the tokens and stuff.  I was at the local Walmart and saw THIS.  I need to do a little digging on it but I think I may be using about the same sets it comes with, so converting over or just replaceing them would be easy enough.  I know once more ships come I will need more space.  I don't really want to have to carry all this around, but it comes with the game.

SO the question is, anyone already have this? and how do you like it.

I use a plano 1374.

That's a Rebel hanger, Imperial hanger, one tray of stands with quite a bit of room for expansion, and one tray of tokens, and dice.

In the top go the card decks, sorted zip locks of movement dials/ship bases, rules, and acrylic range rulers.

If only I had friends.

I feel like this is my destined case, and probably one of the best general choices for any X-wing player who finds himself racking up a massive enough fleet (I'm currently sitting at 45 ships, add in two sets of aces, a good 10-12 wave 4 ships, and the capital ships and it's going to be a bit much).  I know someone who uses one for heroclix and it truly is a behemoth

I currently use this, which was utterly perfect up until wave 3: http://www.planomolding.com/product.php?PID=1245

With wave 3, I added a similarly sized plastic gun case with pluck foam that holds all the ship models, while all the other components live in the other case

Those Plano trays are exactly what I have. I use four of them, one for tokens, dice and templates, one each for Rebels and Imperials, and one for overflow.

I have a decent collection, four of most every small ship and they fit with no problem. I put all like ships in the same compartment, and they fit together pretty well and keep each other from moving around. I've been using this for a year now and have yet to have a ship damaged while in storage.

I also use this case and I think it is amazing.  I'll easily have room for everything.  I think the Tantive IV will actually fit in the top too.   If not then oh well I'll leave it at home and put another tray in the top.

I have this case, it works great for storing the X-wing minis and has plenty of room for expansions. Also, it SHOULD be able to fit the rebel transport & Tantive IV with no problems.

I highly recommend this case or the previously recommended plano 1374

(on a side note, I apologize if there are too many pics)

---edit---

I got mine from walmart.com, they had the best price on it at the time.

My tackle box is the same as Nameme99.

I just organized mine differently.

Completely free large tray at the moment with only 15 ships split (by faction) between the top and middle large trays.

I can fit quite a lot more into those trays before I have to start using the bottom tray.

here be my pics :3

I use a battlefoam sword bag with the pluck foam load out. Great value.

I find the tackle box/ plastic compartments to be risk if you transport your stuff around alot, good for tokens and non ship stuff but IMO never ships. I spent far too much on this game to risk my sexy wee ships

If you have a Menards in your area (home improvement superstore), go check in the storage solutions area. They have tons of little storage cases with lots of compartments. Found a nice box for $8 that holds all my Decent minis.

Thanks for more pics, but one thing i really wanted to know is can the shuttle fit in the larger plastic boxes (sideways) or do you have to put it somewhere else?

I'll let you know when I have a shuttle. XD

My best guess is that maybe it would fit sideways in the large trays. No way it would fit in the smaller ones. If it didn't fit in them there is always the top section (either the large part under the big latches or the two clear spots on the very top sides).

The shuttle only fit in the top of mine, and quite well might I add.

GroggyGolem, I find it odd that your storage cases are completely different from mine. Is yours the 732? If so. is it just a newer/older version?

I noticed that as well. My large trays have more open space in them. Mine is a 732, I picked it up in 2012 back when I was addicted to buying Heroclix. Maybe mine is an older version than yours.

I have a pic here to show the amount of storage space the top compartment holds. The Galactus there could fit in the compartment with extra room to spare once you removed his base. YT-1300 is for scale.

I'm looking to upgrade my storage solution to Battle Foam. I'm using the 'Battle Foam Custom Tray Creator' to figure out my trays and I want to store the TIE Fighters standing versus laying down (to save space). Do any Battle Foam users know if a TIE Fighter (standing up) will fit in the TIE Advanced cutout ? I figure I will need to have at least a two inch tray for the Shuttle so if I can stand the TIE's up I should be able to save some space and squeeze a few more ships into the tray.

Thanks

Currently I use 2 of these:

http://www.homedepot.com/p/Unbranded-Shallow-Professional-Organizer-with-25-Compartments-014725R/203707065

I'll try to get some pics up of my setup.  Basically, when needed, I use the plastic mold the minis come packaged in to hold them in place in the various containers.  My Rebel case is currently out of room, but my Imperial case has plenty of room for expansion.  All TIE ships fit inside the smallest cups.  All small rebel ships besides the A-Wing require the medium cup.  I can fit 3 A-Wings in a small cup.

HOWEVER

These WILL NOT fit the Lambda Shuttle safely.  If you toy with the wings a bit, folding them as far as possible (more than they probably want to initially), you can get it to squeeze, but you risk breaking the wings.  My one wing is slightly loose now that I was stressing it by trying to close it further than it wanted to go.  Additionally, in the case, the shuttle is basically pressed flush against the bottom and the top of the case, which would probably mean it breaks if anything were to hit the lid directly above the ship.  It has NO wiggle room.

Yeah the Plano 732 is what I have and it holds all of the ships in my forum sig below, templates, dials, cards, and still have room for everything through wave 4 at least.  Got it for $50 roughly at Wal-Mart.  I do only carry about 10 regular and 5 large bases with me since 8 and 4 repectfully of each are the max that can be fielded currently in 100 point play.  If I need to take more of my bases well....I just put more in there.
