    After last weeks sale on Asmodee it appears back on the FFG Store page all Descent content has been changed from "Out of Stock" to "Not Available."

    It seems now that the rumors of a reprint of D2E content were false and FFG has now all but abandoned 2nd Edition. Considering how much demand is out there for a lot of the content, I honestly can't believe the company is turning it back on this still in demand product.

    Pico is an “empos.” This is only ever mentioned in the components list of the first edition manual: “1 Pico the Empos Marker,” “1 Skye the Falcon Marker,” and so on for other familiars.
    There was a rat (Boggs), two ferrets (Mata and Kata), a falcon (Skye), and an empos (Pico). What is an empos? I have no idea.

    Well why exclude it? Why not have both like 2E? I noticed in the stream they stated that while RTL gave 2E the dungeon crawl feel it was essentially a 1 v many game adapted to a dungeon crawl. With LOTD they wanted to make it an immersive dungeon crawl from the beginning.


    Well my point is, sure that's great. Build the game from the ground up to be a Co-Op experience that is a dungeon crawl. But why exclude the Overlord? At least give the players the option. The dungeon can still be crafted dynamically, the Overlord may not even need to have objectives other than to "Slow" the players down.

    If this game is so heavily narrative based, why not give the overlord the opportunity to 'Tell the story' make the OL role more of a Dungeon Master instead of a competitive player. I fail to see AT all how the App and AI is going to make smarter moves compared to a real human.

    More options for players is NEVER a bad thing. Adapt the rules, change the game play to include ALL play styles. Imagine if it were the other way around? They removed the app and Co-Op ability. They stated they wanted to create a more fast paced PVP feel, more like Chess than story telling. But for no reason at all they just removed the App and all Co-Op options. I and most of us here would be complaining that there is no Co-Op play.
     
    I have no problem with this version being more immersive, more of a dungeon crawl, more narrative focused. In fact I relish the idea. But the Overlord should have been repurposed not removed altogether.

    Honestly I don't mind it either. That is if it lives up to the promises mentioned in the stream. I hope there is a deep and engaging story, where your decisions have an impact on the story and the campaign outcome. I felt this is what they were really pushing for.
    I am really digging the sculpts and the terrain. I love the furniture and all the tactile, 3d pieces. The "Tokens" from D2e always rubbed me up the wrong way.

    I don't like the art, but I'm not going to make a big deal out of it.
     
    What I really don't like is the removal of the Overlord. I feel that if they wanted to tell a story and make the game not feel like such a 'Race' then they should have repurposed to OL role and changed the rules to suit a more narrative, story based game play. If they game was to be more RP based why not make the OL more of a DM than a competitive player? Personally I didn't really like using the RTL app as I found it slowed the game play down too much and bottle necked the action. Not to mention, as a semi experienced DM and Overlord I almost disagreed with about 50% of the Apps monster tactics decisions. So I hope this get sorted out. The opportunity missed I feel, is that Descent Journeys In The Dark could have been their competitive, fast paced action, player vs player game and Descent Legends of the Dark could have been their more RP, slower more story driven product line, with a DM instead of a Overlord.
     
    Overall I love the look, the feel of the game, if they pull off an exciting and immersive story experience it will be a winner in my books. But I certainly won't be putting away my D2e boxes any time soon.
