Ignore the negativity. This forum is full of it because all D2E hardcore fans expected a 3rd Edition of the same game. After a few month they won't be around here.
Also, Today's internet is full of people complaining about everything. I guess that in their real life (job, friends, gf (if they have...)) they stay quiet so they have to explode here.

Same negativity happened with JiME and today's is one of the best sellers for FFG. Follow the sales, not the comments of the same 4-5 old grumpy guys.

Mr. LeeOC reacted to Gregor Eisenhorn in Hmm. Yay?
Yeah, definitely looking forward to this. My only reservation is that it may be a bit to similar to Journeys in Middle Earth, but I'm optimistic.
Artwork: I'm indifferent. As someone who remembers how much hate 2nd edition received for its artwork when it first came, people hating this artwork is to be expected. For the record, I was never a fan of the previous editions art either so this is a moot point personally. No overlord. As someone who is a forever GM, I like this. There are other dungeon crawler games out there and I've always personally preferred the pure coop ones. If you want a GM, Genesys and it's Terrinoth expansion can do a far better job than an overlord player in a restrictive boardgame. App-driven- yup, this is a thing these days and its fine. Should all board games have apps? **** no! But app-driven games are now a legitimate sub-genre of the hobby. For people concerned about app life span: If the game is popular enough, someone will find a way to keep the app working. I mean, I can still  play my Star Wars VHS board game if I want as the video it requires is on the Internet. I don't however, because games have moved on and it's a very dated design. This game will either be successful, and will get future editions which update its design (or people will find ways of supporting the app as we have precedent for), or this game will fail and will simply take up space on peoples' shelves until they get rid of it: another thing well within the realms of normality.
I can understand why some fans of 2e may  be disappointed because this is different. I feel your pain, Arkham Horror 3rd edition was a big letdown for me compared to previous games (such as Eldritch Horror), but back then, like now, all it was, was a duff boardgame in a time of many wonderful boardgames that scratch similar itches. The sky is not falling! Let's see what happens

How many people are typing these laments on smartphones, laptops, tablets, or PCs that will cost them several times more than this game, that they plan on having for a shorter time than this game than this game will be functional? Value is subjective.
I need hyperbole in my life more than I need oxygen, water, or calories, and even I think you're going just a tad overboard.
This is what we're coming from...

Surely a lawsuit from shutterstock is imminent?????
This is where I'm coming from, too. Descent 1st and 2nd ed art is very much of its era, this game has art that's very much of its own.
  4. Thanks

So, with all the negativity, I feel the need to praise what I’ve seen so far, and how excited I am.  A note that I have no connection to Descent. I thought 2e was too bloated when they let you use 1e stuff which was too hard to find, and it looked pretty generic compared to everything else  I own a ton of Imperial Assault, and I think the Descent/IA system was clunky and uninspired. This new game fixes so much
I am so excited to see the game really going hard on the app, and taking it to a level that it needs to be to shine. One of my biggest issues with MoM2e is how same-y some of the characters can feel. Now, with this game, we get unique interactions with terrain and NPCs? That sounds amazing.
The flipping mechanics sound incredibly cool. Getting to juggle abilities is a really cool decision space that doesn’t just deprive you of abilities, but instead forces a temporary change in tactics. Amazing.
The Diablo-like abilities able to be crafted into gear is simply amazing, and the possibilities here are way beyond what you could do without the app (calculating 10% chance abilities? No thanks.)
The cardboard terrain and elevations  is simply stunning. Steampark got me started with the stuff, Tang Garden made me an addict, and now this game here has really nailed it.
I love the new art style, as it actually feels different than every other dungeon crawler out there. There’s so much “standard epic fantasy” art out there. Give me something fresher and more indie, please!

Mr. LeeOC reacted to Swordbreaker in Hmm. Yay?
I mean, sure it's not super realistic, but it looks okay to me, and is identifiable. I play Final Fantasy games, so I have a high-threshold for ridiculous weapons. It just looks stylistic to me, and wouldn't by itself be a deal-breaker.
  6. Thanks
Mr. LeeOC reacted to Crowmaster in Hmm. Yay?
The art style is amazing, its difrent but amazing in my opinion. Card layouts, app etc all look very coherently.
I played LOTR:JiME couple of times and had a blast, app gives some immersion and its just evolution of boardgames. Not for every game but in game like that, dungeoncrawlers? It fits IMO.
Minis are very nice, tiles probably will look better in real life.

For me its a good succesor and step forward. Wish i had more time to play games

They must read this!! They have to listen to the audience!! Is important. Do not buy this... and will see... Im stil waiting for Heroes of Terrinoth content... More of Runebound 3rd... and more

That price point is an insta-pass.  I know Kickstarters are going that high, and the 'per mini' price is ok or whatever... but no.  It's too expensive for an unproven crawler when there's a dozen on the market, and some of em we know are good.  I wish the company well.  I'm guessing this one dies.

I was so looking forward to this that I went on Twitch for the first time ever just to watch the reveal.
Sadly I'm feeling very disappointed. That art is horrible, no Overlord player, not thrilled at the tile design either. Some of the design decisions look fun - interactive scenery and the flipable/sleeve-combo cards, but sadly my group will never play - we need a physical DM as our games are raucous and no one will ever listen to an app!
The minis are looking good - I may buy just to paint them, and/or to retro convert material back to 2e so we get some new material...
    Meh.

Who agreed on the artwork... I’m out of words! The style is a direct copy of CMON games as Zombicide and stuff. And the art work on the tiles!? That’s a direct downgrade compare to other FFG games as IA and D2e... like they had a deadline to make or something :P. But this doesn’t feels like FFG at all
I like the app in other games as addon, but this might be too app driven. And I still like the board game as a board game.
anyway I’ll stop complaining, I’m out for sure.. 200% sure after I saw the price!
sorry for being negative. But I hope the enthusiast among us get what they want.

cheers! (Hopefully FFG doesn’t read this topic.. Some may have some sleepless nights :P)

Are you aware? FFG said we'll also be able to interact with 3D terrain.
I also wonder how climbing up different levels of terrain will be brought.

    I entirely agree with you.
I had the same problem with video games, so i can relate. I do tend to play video games less and less, replaced with board gaming time which i enjoy and get immersed into more.
Still, i never really felt like the use of an app like Road To Legend removed any of the magical feel into the game; i feel like it enhanced, or even brought a new interesting approach to it. The same magic i felt as a teenager while playing Advanced D&D (1st Ed) by myself with my own boundless imagination, the excitement of discovery after you tap a door and the app tells you to setup this tile and that tile, with this many monster and terrain features, plus a potential special event. Paper and cardboard can't come up with that except with some random card mechanic and thick adventure books who keep piling up as new expansions get released - though i admit,  i'd perfectly fine with that too. I did collect everything from Descent 1st and 2nd Ed and i DO enjoy the adventure books, cards and even the older, overly complex, brought out of the bat Road To Legend campaign system from 1st Ed with just too much stuff to keep track of! I am neither pro nor anti app driven games, as long as it is well integrated into the game, which seems to also be the case with Descent:LotD.
They obviously appear to have put a lot of effort into the development of this app and, from what i've heard in their recent Twitch stream, there will be good amount of side quests too! Plenty of things to do outside the main quest line, as they said. Also apparently, you'll have the ability to interact with 3D terrain, such as climbing trees, or topple a stone column on a monsters, or use it as a bridge over a gap!
    Why not?
There are types of games, or mechanics which i don't enjoy such as card drafting or semi-coop games; Still, i accept them being on the market. You not enjoying it doesn't mean others don't.

this happens when a company disconnect with the audience totally....
    very bad art and design
    poor concept
app mandatory driven - this is a videogame with toys?
the game lenght didnt respond to the modern era
    expensive as ****
    zero original
and they call it the "definitive" dungeon crawler?

i mean... comeon.... everything is bad with this ¿"game"?

and im not a troll... i spend this last days hyped as **** with this announcement...

I hate to start a new forum for a new game with a negative, but this is going to be a hard pass for me, at least for the time being.  They didn’t even finish 2E.  I’m also not a fan of the artwork, and the characters aren’t even the same.

i don’t know. I’m sure someone is excited about this, but at that price tag I’m just wishing more of those resources would have been put into 2E.

The most recent release schedule I've seen, which admittedly is third-hand information posted on BGG, is:
November: Ant-Man December: no releases January: Wasp February: Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch March: Galaxy's Most Wanted Apparently this was shared with Marvel Champions content creators by FFG and was okayed for sharing with the wider community. I guess only time will tell if it is accurate.
