  1. I would have to sell some of my 2e OoP boxes to get this. Sword and Sorcery has become our go-to and Legends looks like it's trying to do similar things as well as similar bits of GH, but falling short.

The new game looks like it's trying to find the bits and pieces that made solo/co-op games popular recently, trying to keep some 2e mechanics, trying to get the "rpg-in-a-box" aspects, and trying to get some 3d "gimmick aspects, then cramming them all together. I think that's going to be a huge part of the criticisms: other games do what FFG is attempting, but better. Like the interviews from a year ago said, "they were looking at what was successful and taking notes." however, their notes don't look like they really went past that phase.

Then slapping a cartoonish/comic art style on top. Like, I get it, as an artist, I love Wayne Reynolds art for Pathfinder and his new stuff for D&D and MTG, but this new art is no Wayne Reynolds.  And, whoever designed the card art was not in the room for the tile art.

Can't agree or like this post enough.  I have had it with games I want to enjoy only coming out with co-op modes.  My friends and I are highly competitive and enjoy 1 vs many far more.  Unfortunately, co-op mode follows the path we have been going down for years in the US where we dumb everything down, everyone gets a participation trophy, and g-d forbid if someone's precious feelings get hurt ... or "GASP", if the lose ...

or "GASP" people just want to go on adventures together... so they buy the games they can play ...together...

no, that can't be it because people are supposed to be competitive at all times

What make you think that the big box will do really well? The fact that it will come in a far future when the pandemic situation (let's hope) will be under control? The fact that it will cost a lot while we all are poorer?

The train has already gone away: they should have teased 2 or 3 years ago (The Chain That Rust was out in 2016), not now. Now there is a plethora of "better" products out there and it will be almost impossible for everyone to get a piece of the market. I don't think Asmodee is able to produce a masterpiece worth buying: they just think to their ROI and not to the players fun. They destroyed FFG 😞

BTW, I will be pleased if I am completely wrong and they will get us a real masterpiece 🙂

Bruh, that game will be on back order very quickly. I'm hoping to be able to pre-order, but you know with the way people are now, theyll order a few and scalp extras at a profit. Look at kickstarters, for example. It's the way the market works in most physical spaces where there is a small order that can't meet demand.

I didn’t find it too bad doing them assembly line style. I did take a week break from painting after finishing them though before doing the heroes 😄

I paint while we're playing because my GF likes to super strategize against me. I just pick a figure and start painting.

    This is thematic, but incorrect.

    This is just not true.

Lash can move the hero to ANY empty space within two spaces of the monster. Could be the other side of it. If the monster is attacking someone three spaces away and using Extend, they can be moved 5 spaces away from their fellows to behind it...

In Road to Legend if you click on the Skull icon above monster activations (or click on the monster in the tracker and choose Info) it will generally tell you what the monster type does with surges.

In the case of the Bone Horror, it says this:

So that's the answer to the OP question: Place the hero as far as possible from the closest other hero.

You're right. I was reading the card and going as basic as my brain made it.  You opened a world of opportunities for me while playing Overlord and using a Bone Horror. I don't tend to think of ALL the possibilities of an ability, just the initial basic concepts.  Thanks for chiming in and setting everything straight.

Thanks, but this works if this is melee and adjacent.

But it has Extend - so it can attack already within 3 spaces from itself. If it does - does it still push away?

Extend is a "may" qualifier. So the Overlord *may* attack a figure up to three squares away. If the Bone Horror attacks a figure not adjacent, that would negate the usability of the surge. That happens in the game from time to time. Certain actions or options will make it so some surges cannot be used. In that case go to the next surge which is Pierce 2. If it rolled two surges while attacking a figure 3 spaces away, only the Pierce 2 one can be applied and the other surge goes unused. There are skills and cards that play off of unused surges, which makes it understood that there will be unused surges from time to time.  Remember, even in the rulebook, a player does not have to use their surges. They *may* use them if they want to. I know you're playing RtL, but the cards and skills were mostly all designed for Overlord play. The Overlord would make the decision on which figure to attack knowing whether or not they want to use particular monster surge skills or not because most of the time it's for tactical advantages, not pure murder mayhem.

  7. Away from. It's a melee type so can generally only attack when adjacent. I say generally because it could potentially use Extend and attack up to three spaces away.

In RP terms: The bone horror attacks with it's body like a snake.  A very very Very large snake consisting of bone and magical energy. When it attacks it lashes its entire being at you, sending you tumbling back (up to two spaces away).

...Will eventually start painting them and sharing my results on that, but won't be for a while as I want to get the games projects finished first. On those there are a few things I'd need FFG's permission for too which will obviously affect how things evolve depending what they say when I ask, but quite excited for it all- the realms of Mennara and its established lore give plenty to work with as a starting point for ideas and I have much planned and in the murky pipelines below Terrinoth. So about that Descent is dead thing,.......

Whenever you start getting this massive Terrnoth opus off the ground, message me and Ill play test or we can play test online or something.

Aren't they supposedly working on something via someone let go from the company in the lay offs a few weeks ago? I believe there is a post about it on this forum. It isn't specific other than Terrinoth related and it will be super exciting.

Unfortunately with COVID19 i'm sure timelines will be impacted, hopefully FFG the company (and the fans of its many games) are not majorly impacted by the virus but it sure seems like we are in for a wild ride the next few weeks/months

Someone laid off before the mass-layoffs did post something ambiguous on reddit back in January, yes.  It piggy-backs off from what Navarro said when he did an interview/AMA last August (?). Mostly everything that surrounds those base detail-less statements in the past few months have been speculation and people's personal hype.  There's been no real verification nor details put out by FFG nor Asmodee.  Just two (one anonymous and one from a former studiohead), maybe three statements that they were working on something Terrinoth/Descent related.  If it happens, I'll likely buy it. If it doesn't then I'll keep playing Descent and a couple other dungeon crawlers.

I didn't know that it was still available

If you go to the Archived Forums, older editions of games are there. I would assume if a 3e of Descent came out this place would be archived. However, with no 3e in sight, it would stay up and any new game would likely be added to the Boardgames section of the community.

  11. I definitely hope the forums don't vanish. There's tons of good content here. Same with BGG forums for 2ed.

Then again, there's still open forums for games that have been dead for 2-3 years, like dead, dead. Looking at Runebound 3e and Heroes of Terrinoth, Battlelore, etc...

Descent, (1e, 2e) is a dead product.  All of the what-if-ing aside, all of the prognosticating and wishful dreams are just that.  This forum will soon go the same path as the D1e forum ... unavailable.

Hate to read it, but more than likely the truth. RtL just got a small bug fix and update (likely last thing they do) and I just finished buying all the physical content. At least I have a lot of playing and painting to do.
