  3. I've found R4 to be really useful on Dutch. It doubles the amount of maneuvers that can get rid of stress, and the longer Dutch is stressed the less time he's spending giving locks to the rest of the squad. I'm also not a huge fan of swarm tactics on Wedge, just because I prefer to have everyone a bit more spread out YMMV though! My version of this list would be "Dutch" Vander (39) R4 Astromech (2) Proton Torpedoes (12) Ship total: 53 Half Points: 27 Threshold: 4 Wedge Antilles (52) R3 Astromech (3) Proton Torpedoes (12) Servomotor S-Foils (0) Ship total: 67 Half Points: 34 Threshold: 3 Luke Skywalker (62) Proton Torpedoes (12) R2 Astromech (4) Servomotor S-Foils (0) Ship total: 78 Half Points: 39 Threshold: 3 Total: 198 R3 on Wedge lets him set up multiple locks early, so more chance of getting double-modded ProTorps (thanks to the force, Luke can get essentially double-modded shots pretty much whenever). I like R2 on Luke to let him disengage and recover some shields after he's used up all his torpedoes/whenever he's feeling the heat a bit too much.
  4. When I started a month or two ago, my first purchases after the core set were the TIE, TIE Advanced X1 (Vader's ship), X-wing and Y-wing expansions. It meant I could play casually with friends using full-size squads that still have a surprising amount of options, and meant I could try out the rebels and imperials before deciding which to invest in further. I'd thoroughly recommend any new players doing something similar.

  6. Don't worry, no one here's put me off. I'm sure I'll make it out into the more competitive scene one day... although maybe I should learn how to not crash my TIE fighters into each other first...
  7. I'm not sure how much I agree with this. As a brand new player (in total I've played less than 10 games), Hyperspace still seems like a great format. There's no way I'd want to go out and play any extended games at a shop or anything - far too many rules/ships I wouldn't have a hope of understanding - but even with the addition of 1.0-only ships into Hyperspace I'd still be tempted to go to a Hyperspace event once I'm ready because 1) I know that any list from my collection will be legal and 2) there are far fewer ships that I'll never have seen before. Also, the 1.0 Hyperspace ships are all iconic ships (interceptors, B-wings) and I'm less likely to get irritated at being pummeled into the ground by iconic ships from the films that I am from being beaten by more obscure ships I may never have heard of haha. In general I think people on this forum have created a strange version of new players in their heads. The newest players are unlikely to go out to an event or FLGS and will just play casually with friends at home. I'd imagine, they wouldn't care about what is or isn't Hyperspace legal and would just use whatever they want from their collection (which, at least for now, is going to be fine in hyperspace). The more competitively-minded of us will then start looking at going to events, and it's these people that Hyperspace is for. New-ish players than want to play competitively; not new players from day 1. As a space for these new-to-competitive-play-but-not-that-new-to-the-game players, Hyperspace seems perfect. All your ships will be legal, and you might see some other ships to make games more interesting.
  8. Yeah they said this during the Adepticon panel. They also said the most iconic ships from each faction will never rotate out of hyperspace legality. Imperials and rebels both have 6 ships that are hyperspace legal. I imagine that they'll keep the pools around this size - if they were going to make them bigger, I don't see why they would have jumped up to 6 so quickly when lots of the now-legal stuff hasn't been released for 2.0 yet and the new factions are so far behind in terms of ship choice. As someone who's just getting into the game, this seems like a good compromise between not having so many ship options that events become too intimidating few newbies like me and having enough options to keep things interesting for the more experienced people.
  9. Finally received my wave 3 preorders (European delays hit my local retailers pretty hard)... and one of the stands is bent to one side. I'm not too bothered because it gives the V-19 a bit more of a dynamic look, but it seems to be a potentially worrying sign of things to come...
