Major Rhymer and attacking at R0 with new RR
meffo replied to RedSquadBW's topic in X-Wing Rules Questions
there is something about a ship, meaning a ship the rule applies to, not all the ships without exception until there is an exception, because that's nonsensical. it means all ships that are not exceptions, since you have to read it in the context of the golden rules. your interpretation and statement that the "range 0" rule is plain RAW and any exceptions to it are interpretative rather than RAW is out of context of the golden rules. your use of terms like "literalist" and "interpretivist" are arbitrary, out of context and quite off putting. the interpretation that rhymers ability to attack at range 0 is not literal because all he does is change the range requirement is also out of context, since the rules on performing an attack clearly state that you have to choose a defender that is in the required arc and range of the weapon you're using. if range 0 is the range requirement, it seems clear that you would be able to attack at range 0, since range requirements on special weapons are written on cards and not in rules text. apparently, the context is not crystal clear to you, no. otherwise you would simply agree that rhymer can attack at range 0. i've yet to see any arguments stating that he cannot attack at range 0 that consider the context. -
you are correct. they stay with the ship, since the ship isn't removed from the game. and they stay with the ship, even though the ship is in reserve.

Major Rhymer and attacking at R0 with new RR
meffo replied to RedSquadBW's topic in X-Wing Rules Questions
no, it says "A ship cannot attack a ship at range 0, even if the attack range would be range 1.". there is nothing about major rhymer in that sentence at all. it's also written in the rules that card text overrules rules text. it's a central part of how we use the rules to play the game. interpreting the rules out of context is pretty useless. the rules are used to play the game. even "rules as written" requires interpretation. -
Major Rhymer and attacking at R0 with new RR
meffo replied to RedSquadBW's topic in X-Wing Rules Questions
rhymer still works just fine, some people just don't want him to. we choose how to interpret the rules. we can break the rules whenever we want. there really isn't much of a dispute here, some people just stubbornly claim that rules text is more important than card text. just like the rules explicitly state that you cannot attack at range 0 and there there are abilities that explicitly state you can attack at range 0, major rhymer explicitly states that he can change the range requirement of a weapon to 0. that's a literal interpretation of the text on his card. the "cannot" stated in the rules text has no bearing on that what so ever. "cannot" in rules text is not absolute, only in card text. there is no RAW interpretation that he cannot attack at range 0, because that's not what's written in the rules. if you claim rhymer cannot attack at range 0 according to RAW, you choose to interpret something the rules and his card do not state. or in other words, you're making up problems that are not there and asking for clarifications or changes to the rules that are not necessary. i don't see anything wrong with your solution, though. -
Major Rhymer and attacking at R0 with new RR
meffo replied to RedSquadBW's topic in X-Wing Rules Questions
so basically, you're saying the golden rules have no bearing, since the statement in the rules reference about not being able to perform attacks at range 0 is absolute and cannot be overridden by text or range requirements printed on cards? (yes, the range requirement printed on special weapons is text as well, as far as we can interpret the word "text") so for rhymer to be able to attack at range 0, the rules reference needs to state he can attack at range 0? you realize there is already text in the rules referencing attacking at range 0 (range bonus)? and you also realize rhymers ability clearly states he can change a weapons range requirement by 1, to a limit of 0-3, right? basically, advanced proton torpedoes could have a range requirement of 0 - and if that was the case, you would argue that they cannot be used, since the rules reference is absolute and card text is not? i'm not quite sure i'm capable of following your line of reasoning there. -
i like this find. how ever, it seems that we're going to have to go with the obvious interpretation. or in other words - yes, you can repair two instances of the same damage card during the same round since they are explicitly stated as different actions. you cannot, how ever, perform the same action twice in a round, even if you have that action available on your action bar in different difficulties. each action is still each action, no matter the difficulty or the source of the action.

Does Ten Numb have to roll a focus in order to shed stress?
meffo replied to Rettere's topic in X-Wing Rules Questions
i'm with you. unfortunately, the rules of the game are not a programming language. technical english is not a stong point of the rules reference or the available card text in the game either. how ever, your argument that "why not say?" has no bearing what so ever. we have the rules and the card text - and that's what we have to interpret and work with. if you want an answer to your question of "why not?", then you'll have to ask the developers, not the community. this forum is a community resource, not a point of contact with the game developers. i can ask you something similar though. if you'd be able to spend a stress for no effect, why wouldn't his card text say "while attacking or defending, you may spend a stress token. if you do, you may change all of your (focus) results to (hit) or (evade) results."? that's not what his card says, though, is it? it says you may spend a stress to change your (eyeball) results, not that you may spend a stress and that you may change your (eyeball) results, if any. i mean, adding an "if any" clause wouldn't be that hard if what you're arguing was the intention, would it? or adding another "may" wouldn't be unreasonable if that was the intention, would it? in my view, this is the correct interpretation until the rules state otherwise. i appreciate that i'm not always right, but i believe i'm representing a consensus here, not just my own interpretation? please correct me if i'm wrong. if it's not clear to you, just go ahead and ask FFG. and ask your TO in advance if you're going to a tournament. for casual games, just roll a dice or what ever. the precedence from not being allowed to spend focus and not being able to spend anything to resolve nothing still stands, though. you can reach the developers with rules questions from here: https://www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/contact/rules/ -
Major Rhymer and attacking at R0 with new RR
meffo replied to RedSquadBW's topic in X-Wing Rules Questions
oh? you can't read what rhymer's card says and what that makes what ever munitions he's carrying say? it's as if there was a torpedo/missile with a range requirement of 0-2 and you're claiming you won't be able to fire it at range 0 because the RR says you cannot perform attacks at range 0. see that terrible blue highlight on the card below? now read rhymers ability. it says the text in the highlight is not "1" when he's carrying it it, it says it's "0-2". how is that not overriding the rule about attacking at range 0? RAW, rhymer can attack with ordnance at range 0. that's still using the golden rules, though. rhymer says he can change the range requirement to a weapon down to 0 - and the rules state that you cannot attack at range 0. that's where the golden rules comes in to guide us and assure us that rhymers ability overrides the rules text. or what's your interpretation like? -
Major Rhymer and attacking at R0 with new RR
meffo replied to RedSquadBW's topic in X-Wing Rules Questions
imho, it doesn't need an answer, but for some reason some people don't think the golden rules are important enough. changing the required range of a weapon to 0 should certainly let you attack at range 0, simply because card text overrules rules text. you can always go ahead and ask FFG yourself if you're not sure. to do so, use this form: https://www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/contact/rules/ -
Does Ten Numb have to roll a focus in order to shed stress?
meffo replied to Rettere's topic in X-Wing Rules Questions
care to elaborate? there is nothing indicating the rules about spending focus does not fall under the paying costs rule, no. it's not uncommon for things to be repeated several times throughout the rules reference. it's also known as clarification. do you have any examples in the rules where paying a cost for no change in the game state is permitted? i mean, you are arguing that you can pay costs for no effect, other than paying the cost. -
Pinpoint Tractor Array (Nantex Ship Ability)
meffo replied to Cpt ObVus's topic in X-Wing Rules Questions
rules reference page 18. the key here being that you have to select any other standard arc. -
why is that? just play on TTS. then get the ships you like for real. you can never get enough silencers. that being said, i need more silencers. now, stop luring me out into other parts of the forums! i know where i belong. it's too bright out here and there are too many other users! hsssss! *crawls back into rules forum cave* preciouss ssilencssers to possessessss...

How does Grand Inquisitor apply range 1 bonus at attack range 3?
meffo replied to muzhyou's topic in X-Wing Rules Questions
from page 16 of the RR: so literally, the ability says you may apply the range 1 bonus. that means that you apply the range 1 bonus. it does not mean that you do not apply the range 3 bonus, if the attack range is range 3. or in other words, @Lyianx is 100% correct. also, i'm not going to use the wiki anymore. the official squad builder is a much better source for images. thanks to @theBitterFig for that tip. -
Executing a red maneuver while preform a SLAM
meffo replied to muzhyou's topic in X-Wing Rules Questions
i like that. it's supposed to be an image of ved foslo, right? a shame fandom.com have gone to s**t. the wiki used to be such an amazing resources for card images. xD i think it works if you delete everything in the url after the file ending (.png in most cases), including the slash (/) just after it. the resolution of the images is really poor nowdays, though. you can barely read it properly. i snip things with the snipping tool and upload it to postimages.org instead. it's a bit more work, but it's worth the difference imho. sorry for the slightly off topic post here. -

we do what the card says. the difficulty doesn't change, just the speed. -
Firespray + Slave 1 + Seasoned Navigator
meffo replied to mario106's topic in X-Wing Rules Questions
all difficulty changing effects are cumulative. also, slave 1 doesn't trigger unless you reveal a bank or turn maneuver, no matter what you change your maneuver to with seasoned navigator. -
Executing a red maneuver while preform a SLAM
meffo replied to muzhyou's topic in X-Wing Rules Questions
it's 100% clear - and i dare say i included this in my first post. it's right there in the first bullet point. stress from performing red actions comes after the action has been performed. you can execute maneuvers of any difficulty while SLAMing. the difficulty of the maneuver is resolved before the difficulty of the action, so you would still be stressed from the SLAM action if the SLAM action is red, even if you performed a blue maneuver while SLAMing. if you perform a red maneuver with a red SLAM action, you would resolve the SLAM action and gain a stress before the action is completed during the check difficulty step of executing the maneuver, then gain a stress after resolving the SLAM action. that would leave you double stressed, yes. nien numb could do this and end up with no stress what so ever, though. just chuck on black one, advanced slam and pattern analyzer. if you fly him with poe, that would let him execute a red maneuver, perform an action with pattern analyzer, get his regular action, throw in poe's action to SLAM, get another action with pattern analyzer, then perform the advanced SLAM action. that's a potential five actions during his activation, assuming he had targets for his ability at all the places he ended up to loose the stress. so he would be able to execute two maneuvers, lock, focus, barrel roll, boost and SLAM. epic shenanigans. -

t-70s doesn't have the slam action unless they use black one. stress from performing red actions is gained after performing the action. -
R5-TK, cluster missiles and munitions failsafe combo
meffo replied to BobaFett009's topic in X-Wing Rules Questions
O_o a four card combo with no references? yes, it all totally works. assuming an enemy ship has bumped G4R-GOR, if you have G4R-GOR locked, and R5-TK equipped, you can attack him with cluster missiles and use munitions failsafe to cancel all dice. G4R-GOR's ability would then trigger, making the ship he's blocked suffer a critical damage. you could then perform the bonus attack with cluster missiles on the ship at range 0 of G4R, assuming all the other requirements for cluster missiles are fulfilled, meaning that ship would have to be in your attack arc, at range 1-2 of you and that you spend a charge on cluster missiles. page 5 of the RR. -
it still says that, i just got confused by the comma when i posted. it doesn't say "immediately before removing the ship", but it says "immediately, before removing the ship", which doesn't mean the same thing at all.
