Disney confirmed season 3 of The Mandalorian starts around Christmas 2021 at the investor's day presentation. Have they released new info to counter that?

Yeah, Favreau said Kathleen Kennedy actually said the "next chapter" was happening Christmas 2021. So verbal shenanigans to not give away the Boba spin off.

  2. Nice as standby is, I think I'd keep Ace as a contingency card. It's basically an improved version of Seize the Initiative since he can give a free order to himself or another unit on any turn and it can be outside of the Issue Orders phase. And you'd prefer not to discard from your hand.

Contingency does have it's counters. Obviously if you lose Lando or Kallus, your contingency cards go away. But if you lose your character(s) on the cards in your command hand, you can't play them to trigger your contingency either.

Plus it says after you reveal so you know what your opponent is trying to do.  Certain cards like sabotage communications got strong here.

I really like the idea of banking Han's Change of Plans. Each time you play a 3-pip, you have the option of denying their command card.

With infiltrate and disruptive command cards, Lando might be a better version of both Han and Jyn.

  4. I'd like to see some command cards for vehicle field commanders or maybe some non-weapon crew upgrades to make them work more efficiently. Like a 2-pip generic command card called "Imperial Assault", 1 transport and 1 troop unit, after a transport with an order token activated, you may disembark one corps unit. Or a Crew upgrade that might serve a similar purpose, 15 points with exhaust or something.

  5. I can believe it. (I didn't watch the whole Crabbok video. So if I repeat any of his thoughts, then I agree.) Hopefully their sculpting has improved enough to make it look awesome. But the timing makes sense given changes to transports and field commander, and that we haven't had closed transports yet.

The Imperials have an easy equivalent that's been in Mandalorian and throughout Rebels. So that'll be a quick match.

I think Lando will be similar to Han. More of a disruptor with his command cards. Not the vehicle leader the Rebels need to make them more viable.

But with the changes to field commander, they could put some generic command cards in the vehicle sets. This would help make the transports/vehicles more powerful, more marketable, and expand command hand variety that Alex said they were trying to achieve awhile back.

I have a feeling Bo Katan will be a big part of the series next season. Mando will probably get unwillingly pulled into the political intrigue around the Mandalorian resistance fighters and Deathwatch. Im sure the Watch will have their own ideas about who should sit on the throne and wield the dark saber...

That would be an interesting direction to take the series either post-Gideon or alongside that continuing arc. Allow them to work through some character development and inner issues between sides while having great fight scenes. Mando hauling around a baby pseudo-Jedi would add its own complications to working with other Mandalorians.

Another time we might have seen beskar armor being melted and reforged is in the final episode of season 1, when the gang is talking with the Armorer as she picks through the Mandalorian armor debris.

Now that you mention it, I'm surprised there was no follow up on the Armorer when he went back to Navarro. Either Din looking for her or Cara and Greef giving him an update. She saved their lives with that timely jetpack and they didn't check in with her while cleaning up the city? Just a quick one liner about how she moved on before they could find her, left behind a lot of scrap metal for them to clean up, yadda yadda yadda.

  7. Season 2 is following a similar format to season 1. He goes on side quests, meets a bunch of people, then they all come together at the end of the season to confront Gideon. Give all the characters one more go around by season's end, maybe Sabine to tie in Bo-Katan and Ahsoka with a little Ezra reference.

Then in the next couple months we'll get announcements for spin off series for Ahsoka chasing down Thrawn and maybe a separate one for Bo-Katan trying to re-establish Mandalore.

The riding unit loses an action if the vehicle moves before it right?

You can only perform 1 action if the vehicle performed more than one standard move. The compulsory move is a standard move for the speeder. So the transported unit gets 2 actions if the vehicle only performed one move or if it goes before the vehicle that round.

So you can shoot and scoot with Han in a speeder if you get your order sequence right and get multiple moves out of the speeder. If the mortar support fires, it doesn't need the aims since the other unit is the attacker. But you're right that dodges will come in handy in all cases with the vehicles having larger profiles and heavy cover only goes so far.

  9. Despite its points being too high, it's a fun model to play with. There are a few builds it can run with.

You can keep it bare bones and use it as a character delivery device. R2, Luke, anyone you want to get up close fast. Then displace units with your compulsory move and shoot up close to spread around suppression. Maybe Comms Jammer to mess with things when you get there.

As a gun boat, you can put 3 range 3 guns on it (rifle, rocket, mark II) and hit units on the flank. Cover 2 (cover 1 pilot is nice) and Armor 2 helps keep it alive but you don't want to take on multiple enemy units.

As an alternative gun boat, run 2 range 4 guns and keep the enemy at a distance. Slap on HQ Uplink since you'll want to recover often with the M-45. It gives you activation control over it and keeps that Heavy order token out of your pool. The hard part of this strategy is aiming towards the enemy, having to compulsory move every turn, while trying to stay outside of range 3.

Once the points update comes out, some of these may be more viable in a few weeks.

  10. If you divulge Phantom Menace, you have to discard it during the deployment phase and you're basically down a command card, right? That's not the usual "must play on turn 1" that we've seen on previous divulge mechanics.

How so? The melee weapon shown off was a heavy so the rest of the squad doesn't get access to it. It looked like dookie to me.

You're right, only the heavy weapon model gets the sword. But with an aim, the whole squad gets Pierce 1 in their pool, something some players have been saying is severely lacking in wookies.

I haven't seen the Mandalorian unit card, but it's possible they have 1 red as their melee attack. 6 red with Pierce 1 on the attack with a speed 3 unit (again assuming on the unit card) with red armor + surge and Impervious (with the ability to get immune pierce in melee) is a pretty powerful unit. You're pretty close to Jedi levels at that point.

  12. As others have said, Asmodee/FFG is testing out the elasticity of demand. People buying less is just part of that process. It sucks as the consumer because we want more plasticky goodness, but hopefully we get a better overall product from it.

We also have to keep in mind the past 2 years has been entry level pricing. FFG entered an existing market and had to differentiate itself from established competitors. The Star Wars license helped but it opted to go for cheaper models to make it a low risk purchase for consumers if it failed, simpler assembly to draw in consumers new to the market, and an easier rule set for previous wargamers so they didn't have to learn quite as much. It worked and they've achieved a market share of the industry.

Since entering, they have expanded the rule set (while putting out Skirmish for newer players), expanded the complexity of their models, and increasing their prices. They are evolving their approach to see how much people are willing to pay for their product as they increase the value they believe they are offering. They also have increasing costs whether due to materials, more sculptors for more elaborate models, annual increase in costs, paying game designers for a job well done, etc.

As for the greed aspect, when was the last time any of us turned down a raise? And we usually didn't agree to do more work for it. We took what we could get for the level of work we were doing.

As a 40k player, I enjoyed the game rules, cheaper prices, and easy assembly. And I also enjoy gaming against people in my area. We'll see how this change in direction impacts the overall gaming community.

    Ram will not trigger, however.

I just want to make sure I understand the interaction on this one. Will Ram not trigger because they can't go a full 3 speed move? Or assuming the taun-tauns can't reach another unit with a speed 1 move? Based on the language below for Ram, I wasn't sure if "maximum speed reduction" applies to Ram or just things like Immobilize.

A unit whose maximum speed has been reduced is still
considered to have performed a move at its maximum speed
as long as the move was performed using the highest speed
movement tool available to that unit.
