Just pre-ordered Horror in High Gear...this will be my first order due to arrive after the UK leaves the EU (don't get me started on that fiasco)...so interesting to see whether that makes things as unpredictable as they seem to be in the US for pre-orders these days.

Sad to see the end of the forum here on FFG
Dr Dee replied to Dr Dee's topic in Arkham Horror: The Card Game
I also spend time on BGG but liked the different feel of this forum. It felt more like a small community. Good humoured and interesting and more manageable than other places. I'll miss the Shipping Now thread in particular. -
Disappointed to lose the Forum on FFG. Always found this a great place to go to for information, questions updates and just knowing what other players are up to. Hopefully you're all on BGG, so we don't lose contact.

My Devil Reef and WOTOG has arrived. Seems like distribution in the UK is slightly more predictable at the moment than in the US. I suspect that Thanksgiving, COVID, Black Friday and general busyness at this time of year is having an impact on deliveries this month in the US.

Transitioning from NotZ to Dunwich
Dr Dee replied to Sir_Blacksoutalot's topic in Arkham Horror: The Card Game
The good thing about using the starter decks on FFGs site is that they only contain cards from the Core set plus the campaign you're playing with...so if that is reflective of your card pool, it could be useful...but apart from that, it is not really recommended. I find ArkhamDB to be a great way of building decks. The Hall of Fame is good for some examples but they may require a larger card pool. If you can't manage to build a deck that you like, in the Hall of Fame, with the cards that you have, just try to follow the general theme of the deck and swap in cards that you do have. Remember that AHLCG is not really about deck optimisation so much as creating something that is fun and adaptable. It is good to try out new cards rather than just try to work out what the 'best' card is. -
Looking for "A Phantom of Truth"

I loved City of Archives! -
I have notification from my reliable supplier (Games Lore) in the UK that Devil Reef and War of The Outer Gods are arriving tomorrow. Once again it looks like demand is going to rapidly outstrip supply...so I hope you all get your pre-orders delivered.

Looking for "A Phantom of Truth"

I really like TFA. I know that the supplies mechanic can be a bit frustrating as you try to guess what might be good and what might be useless without any criteria to help your guess work...but the campaign is fantastic! I didn't dislike a single sceanrio. For me the Depths of Yoth was a nail-biting experience as my party descended the depths...absolutely loved it. I don't want to give away any spoilers but there is a point in the campaign at the end of one scenario and going into the next that is just superb in terms of what it does in creating a memorable moment when you hit it. There is a lot of innovation in TFA that really works. The scenarios are varied, choices have consequences, the settings are distinctive (it's not just jungle all the way) and there are situations that surprise and delight (and horrify) you all along the way. I went through TFA recently (on Easy, I'm not insane) with Leo and Ursula and I think they are a great team and right on point, thematically, too and managed to get to R1 in the final scenario...which was a first for me. I've never managed R5 and, as I never read resolutions that I don't get, I've no idea where that leads. -
Yes. I was very intrigued to see her deckbuilding requirements...I wonder what those two sets of 3 cards are...and how the weaknesses work when drawn from the encounter deck. I'm going to assume that she is a dead cert for the next cycle...but that is a long way off. Aside from Truth from Fiction what are your thoughts about other cards that are thematic for her?
-
Hoorah! This thread was going to be a little dificult to sustain without anything on the Upcoming page. I also haven't spent much time with Gloria (just started reading the novella for inspiration). It's a pity that she can't take Truth from Fiction (2)...as that seems pretty much on the nose, thematically.

I am going to say no. Locations with Locked Door 'cannot be investigated'. Look What I found is only triggered by failing an investigation check...which you can't do with a Locked Door in place.

You can't keep a weakness that you draw in your starting hand which is created before setup. You can't voluntarily discard a weakness from your hand.

Midnight Masks Question - Potential Spoiler
Dr Dee replied to Sir_Blacksoutalot's topic in Arkham Horror: The Card Game
A bit off topic but if you like that...wait until you get into The Forgotten Age...one of my favourite moments of AHLCG innovation happens in that one. Absolutely no spoilers but when you hit that point for the first time I can guarantee it will provoke a reaction for all players that will become a memorable moment. There are these creative highlights in all the campaigns...but the one in TFA is my favourite so far. -
Agreed...coin capsules and a decent chaos bag are must buys. You might think more cards are important but once you realise the huge quality of life bonus your get from drawing chaos tokens in coin capsules, you will understand why this isn't a 'nice to have' option but a must.
-
Dunwich and The Forgotten Age are generally available at the moment. I would be tempted to pick up either of those as complete cycles. It is going to be a while before Innsmouth is complete. Both Dunwich and TFA will give you some more investigators and player cards plus are much more engaging campaigns than Night of the Zealot. The Investigators packs are good (but a little difficult to get hold of at the moment) but they don't give you more scenario options.

Dark Revelations does seem to be in stock in several places, including Asmodee. If you want it, grab it now...who knows when it will be back in print.
-
In Too Deep and Dark Revelations arrived today. Gloria is interesting. Her signature asset looks useful but the fear of her signature weakness turning up means some thought is required. If you can harmlessly discard the weakness early and get Ruth Westmacott out...Gloria should be able to mitigate some of the the threat from the encounter deck quite well. I really like the artwork on Gloria's card too.

Yes, the Upcoming Page is certainly not all that it could be anymore. I will find out tomorrow whether my pre-order for In Too Deep and Dark Revelations will get fulfilled by my online game store of choice...they have never let me down in the past...but the low level of supply getting to UK distribution means nothing is certain.

Looking for "A Phantom of Truth"
Dr Dee replied to Icechamber's topic in Arkham Horror: The Card Game
Unfortunately, this year, because of the unusual situation no doubt, even ordering in advance as soon as items become available for pre-order offers no certainty. I see that In Too Deep is already showing as out of stock with many sellers and distributors...and it hasn't even released yet. The general advice, though, to get what you can now, rather than wait for complete cycles, is sound. I don't know whether the player count for this game has rapidly increased this year but FFG seem to be a little off on their calculation of supply versus demand. -
Easy mode...always. It isn't as easy as you might think by the name.

Looking for "A Phantom of Truth"
Dr Dee replied to Icechamber's topic in Arkham Horror: The Card Game
Wow...some people have more money than patience. I still don't understand how we get to a point where certain mythos packs seem rarer than others. It would be nice, however, to have a bit more information from FFG as to their plans and priorities for reprints so that people at least had a vague idea as to when things will be available (I know they used to do this...but even then the information was a little unreliable). -
This is now showing up in UK for release next week. Placed my pre-order...hopefully there will be enough supply.

Looking for "A Phantom of Truth"
Dr Dee replied to Icechamber's topic in Arkham Horror: The Card Game
Supply and demand is not in great balance right now. If I was just getting into this game now, I would be tempted to get what's available and then fill in the missing packs once they get a reprint...who knows which pack will become the next 'A Phantom of Truth'. The Forgotten Age is also excellent. If you can find the complete cycle, and have the cash, it's definitely worth getting. -
Investigator defeated spoiler inside
Dr Dee replied to brolim's topic in Arkham Horror: The Card Game
Ah...apologies if I have misled on this. I've never got R3...and, as I never read resolution that I don't reach, I may have missed that. That said, based on the OP's post, I interpreted the question as it related to an investigator being defeated, rather than any post-scenario resolution...basically what I meant was you can't accumulate sufficient physical or mental trauma to be killed (or driven insane) in the first scenario.
