Great stuff.  The table looks fantastic, as do the dew backs and the downed ATST.

New to the game but have been painting minis for 10 years now. Have used your amazing tutorials on youtube to paint up some Stormtroopers, Scout bikers and now Boba Fett in the last couple of weeks, Working my way through your Darth Vader video at the moment. Thought id share my minis.

just trying to cover up areas where the light is shining through on the arms or hands next to the lightsaber, I like it much better after putting it on the table this weekend, I also need to file the ends of the saber to make it look more uniform and of course finish the basing. Also thank you very much for your kind words. I put a lot of effort into this model, not just wiring but also painting. I am by no means an expert in this technique and am glad to hear the positive responses.

Ever since I saw the clone wars core set announced I wanted to see if I could get Grievous to have 4 lightsabers lighted up with LED. I really suck at painting lightsabers so modifying them like this while difficult for me ends up with a much better model. I still have a few parts around the lightsabers to paint to tone down the lighted effects, but I really like what I've been able to accomplish so far with this model.

I really like your shoretroopers and desert scouts. Are you going to do any dewbacks to go with them?

Finished up the desert scout troopers.  Not great pics but you can get the idea.

These are primed with mechanics standard gray, and then painted in two Vallejo model colors. German camo dark green and Khaki.  I washed liberally with army painter light time and then dry brushed with Khaki.  The base is just Agrellan earth drybrushed a bit with Khaki to lighten it up.
I think the overall scheme works well.  I tried painting highlights but didn’t like the result so I stuck with a light dry brushing instead.  If someone wanted to detail these more I’m sure they could make the scheme look great.  For me, these are basically opposition force pieces and they were much more fun than painting the white ones.

Also, for anyone interested, here’s the landspeeder with the finished base.

I finally broke down and picked up an inexpensive light box off Amazon and a better camera app for my phone.  I’m still experimenting but I took some test shots of my recently finished shoretroopers and my landspeeder.
I’ve also copied the original post from this thread and put it at the end of the thread. Thought I would try it this way for a change.

Just to be as weird as possible, I’ve decided to just add these to the end of the thread.
Im down to my rebel veterans and then a third unit of Speeder Bikes that I never got around to painting.  So I’m doing these one at a time and sparing myself the misery of painting them as a batch.  So far I have 3.5 done.  Here are the finished three.

I’m using similar colors but slightly different techniques on the models just to keep myself interested and make them less boring.  But I’m also keeping the overall scheme pretty monochrome and then hoping to bring attention to their faces with some warm skin tones and the bright blue goggles.

I never know if it’s better etiquette to start a new thread or dig up an old one and add to it.  But since I don’t want to scroll through two years of my old photos I figure you don’t want to either.
I’ve been slowly but surely painting up additional forces, while simultaneously being distracted by other shiny objects (Board game minis and Legend of the Five Rings Samurai, some Harry Potter miniatures and the occasional D&D mini... darn.  I’m a full on miniature addict now I guess).  Somewhere along the way I painted up the rebel and imperial specialists but I don’t know if I posted them or not.
I still love painting individual minis more than squads so I’m pretty happy with my Jyn and Krennic. Tabletop standard as always so don’t expect to magnify them and see flawless lines, lol.  Sorry about the odd background, but I find that holding them in front of my workstation actually produces better light balance and more accurate colors than trying to get them on a white or black background.

I also finished a set of scout troopers.  Man, I hate white... I actually did these guys in a very light gray (Vallejo sky gray) and I should have just left them like that. In isolation they looked white enough.  But once I started adding highlights with white I had to do the whole thing.

I’m also finally breaking my film based traditionalism and doing a non standard unit color.  Here’s my test model for desert scout troopers.

I also got my x-34 done.  I didn’t get final pictures of the base so I will have to dig some up tonight. But I magnetized the riders and had a nice time getting this one done.

Again, not going to win any awards but hey, it looks good at arms length and I had fun doing it.  I may go back and touch up some stuff.
So that’s my update.  I’ve got one squad each of Death Troopers and Pathfinders waiting in the wings, along with a speeder bike unit I’ve been procrastinating on.  Then Bossk and Sabine.  Unlikely I will get all that done before Rebel veterans and Tauntauns come out,  but I can dream right?

It's a crazy busy week, so I haven't been able to finish as many clones as I had hoped, but here's half a squad, finished up.
I primed in Corax, German Grey, a light wash in Nuln Oil (you can see the ol washed version in the background), and then finally I went over the armor with Ivory. (I still have gunmetal dry brush to do on weapons.)
The shoulder pauldron is a recreation of the 99th Infantry Division badge, which was my grandfather's division in WWII. They were nicknamed "the battle babies," so all my Phase I troopers are "the battle shinies." I'm going to give them a gloss varnish for the armor so that they live up to the name.

Thank you! The white is a thinned down Apothecary White. By heart I think the ratio should be around 2:1, Medium:Apothecary White. And then applied gently thinly, not splurging as in some Games Workshop youtube tutorials.

Thank you for your oppinion. I agree that contrast paints are not very wel suited for the 'flat areas' job. I decided I wasn't too happy with it and stripped the speeder bike with some Dettol.
Not sure yet what colour to give the speeder bike. But I will probably stray away from the official colours.

Your models are looking great. Turns out that contrast paints, like everything in painting and most things in life, produce better results if you put a little more effort into them.  The Rebel minis are really well suited to this because of all the folds and textures in their cloth.

Your speeder bike is looking good so far.  I think the biker scout looks terrific and I wouldn’t do any additional highlighting on him unless you want to use him as a display model.

The bike might use some additional work.  Big flat surfaces are not great for the contrast paints because they tend to settle unevenly when there’s no clear peaks and valleys in the surface.  I’m not sure how to highlight that problem away but I think it will be less obvious once you paint some more eye catching detail on the rest of the areas of the model.  I might recommend redoing the handles and the pedals in gray/black to break up the amount of brown.  I assume you are going to do the control panel in black in which case I think it’s probably worth picking out a light or two in red and white in order to draw the eye away.
Just to be clear, I think your speeder bike is headed to a very nice tabletop miniature even if you don’t do any of the above. Just letting you know what I would choose to do since you asked.

As I have my first SW Legion battle planned for next week Thursday I'm trying to get all the miniatures painted. So far I have completed three rebel units, Luke, AT-RT and two Storm Trooper units.
Excluding bases and touchups I still have Darth Vader, two speeder bikes and one unit of storm troopers to paint.

Did some touchups on the previous posted rebels. They look beter now. Not that happy with the bases yet tho. I think they can use a wash and a drybrush.

Some WIP on the speederbikes. Quite happy how they are turning out.

Still pinckering if the models need some highlighting with 'regular' paints. What do you guys think?

    Hi all,

Inspired by all the beautiful posts I have decided to post some of my painting pictures too. So please find below my first batch of Rebels.

The rebels are painted with Citadel's contrast paints. Decided for these paints as a test and boy can I say these paints have passed the test.
They need some touch up as a flaw of the paints is the pooling also creates blank spots.
Other comments and feedback are more than welcome.
